Amsal 10
1 Inilah petuah-petuah Salomo: Anak yang bijaksana adalah kebanggaan ayahnya; anak yang bodoh menyusahkan hati ibunya.
Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son causeth a father to rejoice, And a foolish son [is] an affliction to his mother.
2 Kekayaan yang didapat dengan curang tidak memberi keuntungan; sebaliknya, kejujuran akan menyelamatkan.
Treasures of wickedness profit not, And righteousness delivereth from death.
3 TUHAN tak akan membiarkan orang baik kelaparan; tetapi Ia menghalang-halangi orang jahat supaya orang itu tidak memperoleh yang diinginkannya.
Jehovah causeth not the soul of the righteous to hunger, And the desire of the wicked He thrusteth away.
4 Orang malas akan jatuh miskin; orang yang rajin akan menjadi kaya.
Poor [is] he who is working — a slothful hand, And the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
5 Orang bijaksana mengumpulkan panen pada musimnya, tapi orang yang tidur saja pada musim panen, mendatangkan malu pada dirinya.
Whoso is gathering in summer [is] a wise son, Whoso is sleeping in harvest [is] a son causing shame.
6 Orang baik akan mendapat berkat. Kekejaman tersembunyi di balik kata-kata orang jahat.
Blessings [are] for the head of the righteous, And the mouth of the wicked cover doth violence.
7 Kenangan akan orang baik merupakan berkat, tetapi orang jahat segera dilupakan.
The remembrance of the righteous [is] for a blessing, And the name of the wicked doth rot.
8 Orang yang pandai, suka menerima nasihat; orang yang bicaranya bodoh akan sesat.
The wise in heart accepteth commands, And a talkative fool kicketh.
9 Orang jujur, hidupnya aman; orang yang menipu akan ketahuan.
Whoso is walking in integrity walketh confidently, And whoso is perverting his ways is known.
10 Siapa menyembunyikan kebenaran, menimbulkan kesusahan; siapa yang mengeritik dengan terang-terangan, mengusahakan kesejahteraan.
Whoso is winking the eye giveth grief, And a talkative fool kicketh.
11 Tutur kata orang baik membuat hidup bahagia, tetapi di balik kata-kata orang jahat tersembunyi hati yang keji.
A fountain of life [is] the mouth of the righteous, And the mouth of the wicked cover doth violence.
12 Kebencian menimbulkan pertengkaran; cinta kasih mengampuni semua kesalahan.
Hatred awaketh contentions, And over all transgressions love covereth.
13 Orang yang pikirannya tajam mengucapkan kata-kata bijaksana; orang bodoh perlu didera.
In the lips of the intelligent is wisdom found, And a rod [is] for the back of him who is lacking understanding.
14 Orang bijaksana menghimpun pengetahuan; jika orang bodoh berbicara, ia memancing kecelakaan.
The wise lay up knowledge, and the mouth of a fool [is] near ruin.
15 Kekayaan melindungi si kaya, kemelaratan menghancurkan orang miskin.
The wealth of the rich [is] his strong city, The ruin of the poor [is] their poverty.
16 Kalau berbuat baik, upahnya ialah hidup bahagia; kalau berbuat dosa, akibatnya lebih banyak dosa.
The wage of the righteous [is] for life, The increase of the wicked for sin.
17 Siapa mengindahkan teguran akan hidup sejahtera, siapa enggan mengakui kesalahan berada dalam bahaya.
A traveller to life [is] he who is keeping instruction, And whoso is forsaking rebuke is erring.
18 Orang yang menyembunyikan kebencian adalah penipu. Orang yang menyebarkan fitnah adalah dungu.
Whoso is covering hatred with lying lips, And whoso is bringing out an evil report is a fool.
19 Makin banyak bicara, makin banyak kemungkinan berdosa; orang yang dapat mengendalikan lidahnya adalah bijaksana.
In the abundance of words transgression ceaseth not, And whoso is restraining his lips [is] wise.
20 Perkataan orang yang baik bagaikan perak asli; buah pikiran orang yang jahat tidak berarti.
The tongue of the righteous [is] chosen silver, The heart of the wicked — as a little thing.
21 Perkataan orang yang baik, merupakan berkat bagi banyak orang; kebodohan orang bodoh membunuh dirinya sendiri.
The lips of the righteous delight many, And fools for lack of heart die.
22 Karena berkat TUHAN sajalah orang menjadi kaya; kerja keras tak dapat menambah harta.
The blessing of Jehovah — it maketh rich, And He addeth no grief with it.
23 Orang bodoh senang berbuat salah; orang bijaksana gemar mencari hikmat.
To execute inventions [is] as play to a fool, And wisdom to a man of understanding.
24 Orang tulus mendapat apa yang diinginkannya; orang jahat mendapat apa yang paling ditakutinya.
The feared thing of the wicked it meeteth him, And the desire of the righteous is given.
25 Jika topan melanda, lenyaplah orang jahat; tetapi orang jujur tetap teguh selamanya.
As the passing by of a hurricane, So the wicked is not, And the righteous is a foundation age-during.
26 Jangan menyuruh orang malas, ia hanya menjengkelkan saja, seperti cuka melinukan gigi atau asap memedihkan mata.
As vinegar to the teeth, And as smoke to the eyes, So [is] the slothful to those sending him.
27 Hormatilah TUHAN, maka engkau akan hidup lama; orang jahat mati sebelum waktunya.
The fear of Jehovah addeth days, And the years of the wicked are shortened.
28 Harapan orang baik menjadikan dia bahagia; harapan orang jahat kosong belaka.
The hope of the righteous [is] joyful, And the expectation of the wicked perisheth.
29 TUHAN melindungi orang jujur, tetapi membinasakan orang yang berbuat jahat.
The way of Jehovah [is] strength to the perfect, And ruin to workers of iniquity.
30 Orang tulus akan hidup aman sejahtera; orang jahat tidak akan tinggal di tanah pusaka.
The righteous to the age is not moved, And the wicked inhabit not the earth.
31 Orang tulus menuturkan kata-kata bijaksana; orang jahat akan dibungkamkan mulutnya.
The mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, And the tongue of frowardness is cut out.
32 Kata-kata orang tulus menyenangkan hati; kata-kata orang jahat selalu menyakiti.
The lips of the righteous know a pleasing thing, And the mouth of the wicked perverseness!
