Kejadian 29
1 Yakub meneruskan perjalanannya dan pergi ke negeri di sebelah timur Kanaan.
And Jacob lifteth up his feet, and goeth towards the land of the sons of the east;
2 Tiba-tiba dilihatnya sebuah sumur di padang, dan di dekatnya berbaringlah tiga kawanan kambing domba yang biasanya diberi minum di situ. Sumur itu tertutup batu besar.
and he looketh, and lo, a well in the field, and lo, there three droves of a flock crouching by it, for from that well they water the droves, and the great stone [is] on the mouth of the well.
3 Kalau semua kawanan kambing domba sudah berkumpul di tempat itu, para gembala menggulingkan batu itu ke samping, lalu kambing domba itu diberi minum. Setelah itu para gembala menutup sumur itu kembali.
(When thither have all the droves been gathered, and they have rolled the stone from off the mouth of the well, and have watered the flock, then they have turned back the stone on the mouth of the well to its place.)
4 Lalu bertanyalah Yakub kepada para gembala yang ada di situ, "Hai kawan, dari mana kalian ini?" "Dari Haran," jawab mereka.
And Jacob saith to them, 'My brethren, from whence [are] ye?' and they say, 'We [are] from Haran.'
5 Yakub bertanya lagi, "Kenalkah kalian kepada Laban anak Nahor?" "Kenal," jawab mereka.
And he saith to them, 'Have ye known Laban, son of Nahor?' and they say, 'We have known.'
6 "Bagaimana keadaannya?" tanya Yakub lagi. "Baik-baik saja," jawab mereka. "Lihatlah, itu anaknya perempuan yang bernama Rahel. Ia datang membawa kawanan kambing domba ayahnya."
And he saith to them, 'Hath he peace?' and they say, 'Peace; and lo, Rachel his daughter is coming with the flock.'
7 Kata Yakub, "Hari masih siang dan belum tiba waktunya kambing domba dimasukkan ke dalam kandang. Mengapa binatang-binatang itu tidak kalian beri minum, lalu kalian biarkan makan rumput lagi?"
And he saith, 'Lo, the day [is] still great, [it is] not time for the cattle to be gathered; water ye the flock, and go, delight yourselves.'
8 Jawab mereka, "Kami baru dapat memberi minum domba-domba itu kalau semua kawanan domba sudah berkumpul di sini dan batu penutup sudah digulingkan."
And they say, 'We are not able, till that all the droves be gathered together, and they have rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well, and we have watered the flock.'
9 Selagi Yakub berbicara dengan mereka, Rahel datang dengan kawanan kambing dombanya.
He is yet speaking with them, and Rachel hath come with the flock which her father hath, for she [is] shepherdess;
10 Ketika Yakub melihat Rahel bersama kawanannya itu, pergilah Yakub ke sumur itu, lalu menggulingkan batu penutupnya ke samping dan memberi minum kawanan itu.
and it cometh to pass when Jacob hath seen Rachel, daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the flock of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob cometh nigh and rolleth the stone from off the mouth of the well, and watereth the flock of Laban his mother's brother.
11 Kemudian ia mencium Rahel, dan menangis karena terharu.
And Jacob kisseth Rachel, and lifteth up his voice, and weepeth,
12 Katanya kepada Rahel, "Saya anak Ribka, saudara ayahmu." Lalu berlarilah Rahel pulang ke rumahnya untuk menceritakan hal itu kepada ayahnya.
and Jacob declareth to Rachel that he [is] her father's brother, and that he [is] Rebekah's son, and she runneth and declareth to her father.
13 Ketika Laban mendengar berita tentang Yakub, kemanakannya itu, berlarilah ia hendak menemuinya. Laban memeluk Yakub dan menciumnya, lalu membawanya masuk ke dalam rumah. Setelah Yakub menceritakan segala hal ihwalnya kepada Laban,
And it cometh to pass, when Laban heareth the report of Jacob his sister's son, that he runneth to meet him, and embraceth him, and kisseth him, and bringeth him in unto his house; and he recounteth to Laban all these things,
14 Laban berkata, "Memang benar, engkau keluarga dekat dengan saya." Yakub tinggal di rumah itu sebulan penuh.
and Laban saith to him, 'Only my bone and my flesh [art] thou;' and he dwelleth with him a month of days.
15 Pada suatu hari berkatalah Laban kepada Yakub, "Tidak patut engkau bekerja padaku dengan cuma-cuma, hanya karena engkau sanak saudaraku. Berapa upah yang kauinginkan?"
And Laban saith to Jacob, 'Is it because thou [art] my brother that thou hast served me for nought? declare to me what [is] thy hire.'
16 Adapun Laban mempunyai dua anak perempuan; yang sulung bernama Lea, dan adiknya bernama Rahel.
And Laban hath two daughters, the name of the elder [is] Leah, and the name of the younger Rachel,
17 Lea matanya indah, sedangkan Rahel bertubuh molek dan berwajah cantik.
and the eyes of Leah [are] tender, and Rachel hath been fair of form and fair of appearance.
18 Yakub telah jatuh cinta kepada Rahel, sebab itu ia menjawab kepada Laban, "Saya mau bekerja selama tujuh tahun jika Paman mengizinkan saya kawin dengan Rahel."
And Jacob loveth Rachel, and saith, 'I serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter:'
19 Kata Laban, "Lebih baik saya berikan dia kepadamu daripada kepada orang lain; jadi tinggallah di sini."
and Laban saith, 'It is better for me to give her to thee than to give her to another man; dwell with me;'
20 Maka bekerjalah Yakub selama tujuh tahun untuk mendapat Rahel, dan baginya tahun-tahun itu berlalu seperti beberapa hari saja, karena cintanya kepada gadis itu.
and Jacob serveth for Rachel seven years; and they are in his eyes as some days, because of his loving her.
21 Sesudah itu Yakub berkata kepada Laban, "Tujuh tahun sudah lewat; izinkanlah saya kawin dengan anak Paman."
And Jacob saith unto Laban, 'Give up my wife, for my days have been fulfilled, and I go in unto her;'
22 Lalu Laban mengadakan pesta perkawinan dan mengundang semua orang di kota itu.
and Laban gathereth all the men of the place, and maketh a banquet.
23 Tetapi pada malam itu, bukan Rahel, melainkan Lea yang diantarkan Laban kepada Yakub, dan Yakub bersetubuh dengan dia.
And it cometh to pass in the evening, that he taketh Leah, his daughter, and bringeth her in unto him, and he goeth in unto her;
24 (Laban memberikan hambanya perempuan yang bernama Zilpa kepada Lea, untuk menjadi hambanya.)
and Laban giveth to her Zilpah, his maid-servant, to Leah his daughter, a maid-servant.
25 Baru keesokan harinya Yakub mengetahui bahwa Lea yang dikawininya. Lalu pergilah Yakub kepada Laban dan berkata, "Mengapa Paman perlakukan saya begini? Bukankah saya bekerja untuk mendapat Rahel? Mengapa Paman menipu saya?"
And it cometh to pass in the morning, that lo, it [is] Leah; and he saith unto Laban, 'What [is] this thou hast done to me? for Rachel have I not served with thee? and why hast thou deceived me?'
26 Laban menjawab, "Menurut adat di sini, adik tidak boleh kawin lebih dahulu daripada kakak.
And Laban saith, 'It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the first-born;
27 Tunggulah sampai selesai pesta tujuh hari perkawinan, nanti saya berikan Rahel kepadamu juga, asal engkau mau bekerja tujuh tahun lagi."
fulfil the week of this one, and we give to thee also this one, for the service which thou dost serve with me yet seven other years.'
28 Yakub setuju, dan setelah pesta itu lewat, Laban memberikan kepadanya Rahel menjadi istrinya.
And Jacob doth so, and fulfilleth the week of this one, and he giveth to him Rachel his daughter, to him for a wife;
29 (Laban memberikan hambanya perempuan yang bernama Bilha kepada Rahel, untuk menjadi hambanya.)
and Laban giveth to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his maid-servant, for a maid-servant to her.
30 Yakub bersetubuh dengan Rahel juga, dan ia lebih mencintai Rahel daripada Lea. Kemudian ia bekerja tujuh tahun lagi.
And he goeth in also unto Rachel, and he also loveth Rachel more than Leah; and he serveth with him yet seven other years.
31 Ketika TUHAN melihat bahwa Lea tidak begitu dicintai seperti Rahel, TUHAN mengizinkan Lea melahirkan anak, tetapi Rahel tetap tidak mendapat anak.
And Jehovah seeth that Leah [is] the hated one, and He openeth her womb, and Rachel [is] barren;
32 Lea mengandung lalu melahirkan seorang anak laki-laki. Katanya, "TUHAN telah melihat kesusahan saya, dan sekarang suami saya akan mencintai saya." Lalu dinamakannya anaknya itu Ruben.
and Leah conceiveth, and beareth a son, and calleth his name Reuben, for she said, 'Because Jehovah hath looked on mine affliction; because now doth my husband love me.'
33 Lea mengandung lagi lalu melahirkan seorang anak laki-laki. Kata Lea, "TUHAN telah memberikan kepada saya anak ini pula karena didengarnya bahwa saya tidak dicintai." Lalu dinamakannya anaknya itu Simeon.
And she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith, 'Because Jehovah hath heard that I [am] the hated one, He also giveth to me even this [one];' and she calleth his name Simeon.
34 Lea mengandung lagi lalu melahirkan seorang anak laki-laki. Katanya, "Sekarang suami saya akan lebih terikat kepada saya karena saya telah melahirkan tiga anak laki-laki." Lalu dinamakannya anaknya itu Lewi.
And she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith, 'Now [is] the time, my husband is joined unto me, because I have born to him three sons,' therefore hath [one] called his name Levi.
35 Kemudian Lea hamil lagi dan melahirkan seorang anak laki-laki. Katanya, "Kali ini saya akan memuji TUHAN." Lalu dinamakannya anaknya itu Yehuda. Sesudah itu Lea tidak melahirkan lagi.
And she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith this time, 'I praise Jehovah;' therefore hath she called his name Judah; and she ceaseth from bearing.
