1 Nagtalinaed dagiti Isaraelita idiay Settim, ket rinugian dagiti lallaki ti makikaidda kadagiti babbai iti Moab,
And Israel dwells in Shittim, and the people begin to go whoring to daughters of Moab,
2 ta inawis dagiti Moabita dagiti tattao iti panangidaton kadagiti diosda. Isu a nangan ken nagrukbab dagiti tattao kadagiti dios dagiti Moabita.
and they call for the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people eat and bow themselves to their gods,
3 Nakitipon dagiti lallaki nga Isaelita iti panagdaydayaw kenni Baal ti Peor, ket narubroban ti unget ni Yahweh maibusor iti Israel.
and Israel is joined to Ba‘al-Peor, and the anger of YHWH burns against Israel.
4 Kinuna ni Yahweh kenni Moises, “Papatayem dagiti amin a pangulo dagiti tattao ken ibitinmo ida iti aldaw iti imatangko, tapno agbaaw ti kasta unay a pungtotko iti Israel.”
And YHWH says to Moses, “Take all the chiefs of the people and hang them before YHWH in sight of the sun; and the fierceness of the anger of YHWH turns back from Israel.”
5 Isu a kinuna ni Moises kadagiti pangulo ti Israel, “Masapul a papatayen ti tunggal maysa kadakayo ti tattaona a nakikadua iti panagdaydayaw kenni Baal iti Peor.”
And Moses says to [the] judges of Israel, “Each slays his men who are joined to Ba‘al-Peor.”
6 Kalpasanna, simmangpet ti maysa a lalaki nga Israelita ken nangiyeg ti maysa a babai a Midianita kadagiti kameng ti pamiliana. Napasamak daytoy iti imatang ni Moises ken kadagiti amin a tattao ti Israel, bayat nga agsangsangitda sadiay pagserkan ti tabernakulo.
And behold, a man of the sons of Israel has come, and brings a Midianitess to his brothers before the eyes of Moses and before the eyes of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, who are weeping at the opening of the Tent of Meeting;
7 Idi nakita dayta ni Finees a padi nga anak ni Eliazar nga anak ni Aaron, timmakder isuna manipud kadagiti tattao ken nangala iti gayang.
and Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, sees, and rises from the midst of the congregation, and takes a javelin in his hand,
8 Sinurotna ti lalaki nga Israelita iti uneg ti tolda ket induyokna ti gayang ket simmalpot kadagiti bagida a dua, ti lalaki nga Israelita ken ti babai. Isu a simmardeng ti didigra nga impatulod ni Yahweh kadagiti Israelita.
and goes in after the man of Israel to the hollow place, and pierces them both, the man of Israel and the woman—to her belly, and the plague is restrained from the sons of Israel;
9 Dagiti natay iti didigra ket 24, 000 iti bilangda.
and the dead by the plague are twenty-four thousand.
10 Nagsao ni Yaweh kenni Moises ket kinunana,
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
11 “Ni Finees a padi nga anak ni Eleazar nga anak ni Aaron ket pinabaawna ti pungtotko kadagiti Israelita gapu ta nakaunget isuna a kas iti gagarko kadakuada. Isu a saankon a dinadael dagiti Israelita iti kinarungsot ti ungetko.
“Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My fury from the sons of Israel by his being zealous with My zeal in their midst, and I have not consumed the sons of Israel in My zeal.
12 Ibagam ngarud, 'kinuna ni Yahweh, “Adtoy makitulagakon iti kapia kenni Finees.
Therefore say, Behold, I am giving My covenant of peace to him,
13 Para kenkuana ken kadagiti kaputotanna a sumaruno kenkuana, tulagto daytoy iti agnanayon a kinapadi gapu ta napasnek isuna kaniak a Diosna. Nangaramid isuna iti pakapakawanan dagiti tattao ti Israel.”'”
and it has been to him and to his seed after him [for] a covenant of a continuous priesthood, because that he has been zealous for his God, and makes atonement for the sons of Israel.”
14 Ita, ti nagan ti lalaki nga Israelita a napapatay a kadua ti babai a Midianita ket Zimri nga anak ni Salu, maysa a pangulo iti maysa a pamilia ti kapuonan dagiti Simeonita.
And the name of the man of Israel who is struck, who has been struck with the Midianitess, [is] Zimri son of Salu, prince of the house of a father of the Simeonite;
15 Ti nagan ti babai a Midianita a napapatay ket Cosbi nga anak ni Zur a pangulo ti maysa a tribu ken pamilia idiay Midia.
and the name of the woman who is struck, the Midianitess, [is] Cozbi daughter of Zur; he [is] head of peoples of a father’s house in Midian.
16 Isu a nagsao ni Yaweh kenni Moises ket kinunana,
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
17 “Ibilangyo a kabusoryo dagiti Midianita ken rautenyo ida,
“Distress the Midianites, and you have struck them,
18 ta imbilangdakayo a kabusor iti panangallilawda. Inturongdakayo iti dakes maipapan iti Peor ken maipapan iti kabsatda a babai a ni Cozbi, ti anak ti pangulo idiay Midia a napapatay iti aldaw ti didigra maipanggep iti Peor.
for they are adversaries to you with their frauds, [with] which they have acted fraudulently to you, concerning the matter of Peor and concerning the matter of Cozbi, daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, who is struck in the day of the plague for the matter of Peor.”
