Lucas 14

1 Napasamak iti maysa nga Aldaw ti Panaginana, idi napan isuna iti balay ti maysa a panguloen dagiti Pariseo tapno mangan iti tinapay, nga palpaliiwenda isuna iti kasta unay.

On one occasion, as Jesus was going, on a Sabbath into the house of one of the leading Pharisees to dine, they were watching him closely.

2 Pagammoan, iti sangoananna ket adda lalaki nga agsagsagaba iti ibbal.

There he saw before him a man who was suffering from dropsy.

3 Sinaludsod ni Hesus kadagiti nalalaing iti Linteg dagiti Judio ken Pariseo, “Naingkalintegan kadi ti panagagas iti Aldaw iti Panaginana, wenno saan?”

“Is it allowable,” said Jesus, addressing the students of the Law and the Pharisees, “to work a cure on the Sabbath, or is it not?”

4 Ngem nagulimekda. Ngarud inigganan ni Hesus isuna, pinaimbagna isuna, ken pinapanawna isuna.

They remained silent. Jesus took hold of the man and cured him, and sent him away.

5 Kinunana kadakuada, “Siasino kadakayo ti addaan anak a lalaki wenno baka nga natnag iti bubon ti Aldaw iti Panaginana, ti saanna a dagos nga guyuden nga iruar isuna?”

And he said to them, “Which of you, finding that your son or your ox has fallen into a well, will not immediately pull them out on the Sabbath day?”

6 Saanda nga nakaited iti sungbat kadagitoy nga banbanag.

And they could not make any answer to that.

7 Idi nadlaw ni Hesus no kasano nga pinili dagiti naawis iti tugaw dagiti mararaem, nagsao isuna iti pangngarig, kinunana kadakuada,

Observing that the guests were choosing the best places for themselves, Jesus told them this parable –

8 “No adda nangawis kadakayo iti maysa nga padaya, saan kayo nga agtugaw iti lugar dagiti mararaem, gapu ta amangan no adda pay naawis nga ad-adda nga mararaem ngem kadakayo.

“When you are invited by anyone to a wedding banquet, do not seat yourself in the best place. Someone of higher rank might have been invited by your host;

9 Inton ti tao nga nangawis kadakayo nga agpadpada ket summangpet, ibagana kenka, 'Ited mo ti lugarmo iti daytoy maysa a tao,' ket gapu iti bainmo umakarka iti nababbaba nga lugar.

and the host who invited you both will come and say to you ‘Make room for this person,’ and then you will begin in confusion to take the lowest place.

10 Ngem no naawiska, mapanka agtugaw iti kababaan nga lugar, tapno inton summangpet ti nangawis kenka, mabalin nga ibagana kenka, 'Gayyem, inka iti nangatngato.' Ket mapadayawankanto iti imatang dagiti amin a kakaduam nga agtugtugaw iti lamisaan.

No, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place, so that, when the host who has invited you comes, he may say to you ‘Friend, come higher up’; and then you will be honored in the eyes of all your fellow guests.

11 Agsipud ta iti tunggal maysa nga mangitan-ok iti bagina ket maipababanto, ken isuna nga mangibabbaba iti bagina ket maitan-okto.”

For everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and everyone who humbles themselves will be exalted.”

12 Ket kastoy pay ti kinuna ni Hesus iti lalaki nga nangawis kenkuana, “No mangipaayka iti pangaldaw wenno pangrabii, saanmo nga awisen dagiti gagayyemmo wenno kakabsatmo wenno kakabagiam wenno dagiti babaknang nga kaarrubam, ta amangan laeng no awisendakamet, ken masubadanka.

Then Jesus went on to say to the man who had invited him, “When you give a breakfast or a dinner, do not ask your friends, or your brothers or sisters, or your relatives, or rich neighbors, because they might invite you in return, and so you should be repaid.

13 Ngem no agpadayaka, awisem dagiti nakurapay, dagiti paralitiko, dagiti pilay,

No, when you entertain, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind;

14 ken dagiti bulag, ket mabendisyonankanto, agsipud ta saandaka a masubadan. Ta masubadankanto iti panagungar dagiti nalinteg.”

and then you will be happy indeed, since they cannot reward you; for you will be rewarded at the resurrection of the just.”

15 Idi nangngeg ti maysa a nakitugaw iti lamisaan nga ayan ni Hesus dagitoy nga banbanag, kinunana kenkuana,” Nabendisionan isuna a makipanganto iti tinapay iti pagarian ti Dios!”

One of the guests heard what he said and exclaimed, “Happy will be the person who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!”

16 Ngem kinuna ni Hesus kenkuana, “Adda maysa nga lalaki nga nangisagana iti dakkel nga pangrabii ket nagawis iti adu.

But Jesus said to him, “A man was once giving a great dinner. He invited many people,

17 Idi naisaganan ti pangrabii, imbaona ti adipenna tapno ibagana kadagiti naawis, 'Umaykayon, agsipud ta nakasagana aminen.'

and sent his servant, when it was time for the dinner, to say to those who had been invited ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’

18 Ngem padapadada amin nga nangrugi nga agpambar. Kinuna kekuana ti umuna, 'Gimmatangak iti taltalon, ket masapul nga mapanak ket kitaek daytoy. Dispensarennak.'

They all with one accord began to ask to be excused. The first said to the servant ‘I have bought a field and am obliged to go and look at it. I must ask you to consider me excused.’

19 Kinuna met ti maysa, 'Nakagatangak met iti lima nga paris iti baka, ket mapanko padasek ida. Dispensarennak.'

The next said ‘I have bought five pairs of bullocks, and I am on my way to try them. I must ask you to consider me excused’;

20 Kinuna met ti maysa a lalaki, 'Kaas-asawak laeng, ket ngarud saanak nga makaumay.'

while the next said ‘I am just married, and for that reason I am unable to come.’

21 Nagsubli ti adipen ken imbagana iti amona dagitoy nga banbanag. Ket nakapungtot ti amo nga makinbalay ket kinunana iti adipenna, ' Darasem iti rumuar ket ingka kadagiti kalkalsada ken daldalan iti siudad ket iyegmo ditoy dagiti nakurapay, dagiti paralitiko, dagiti bulag, ken pilay.'

On his return the servant told his master all these answers. Then in anger the owner of the house said to his servant ‘Go out at once into the streets and alleys of the town, and bring in here the poor, and the crippled, and the blind, and the lame.’

22 Kinuna ti adipen, 'Amo, naaramidkon iti imbilinmo kaniak, ngem adda pay latta iti pagyanan.'

Presently the servant said ‘Sir, your order has been carried out, and still there is room.’

23 Kinuna ti amo iti adipen, 'Rumuarka kadagiti kalkalsada ken bitbit-ang ket pilitem isuda nga sumrek, tapno mapunno ti balayko.

‘Go out,’ the master said, ‘into the roads and hedgerows, and make people come in, so that my house may be filled;

24 Ta ibagak kenka, nga awan kadagiti lallaki nga immuna a naawis iti makaramanto iti pangrabiik.””

for I tell you all that not one of those people who were invited will taste my dinner.’”

25 Itatta adu unay nga tattao iti sumursurot kenkuana, ken timmalyaw isuna ket kinunana kadakuada,

One day, when great crowds of people were walking with Jesus, he turned and said to them,

26 “No adda siasinnoman nga umay kaniak ket saanna a guraen ti bukodna nga ama, ina, asawa, annak, kakabsat nga lallaki ken babbai—wen, ken iti bukodna met laeng ngabiag-saan isuna nga agbalin nga adalak.

“If any one comes to me and does not hate their father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, yes and even their life, he can be no disciple of mine.

27 Ti siasinoman a saan nga mangawit ti bukodna nga krus ken umay sumorot kaniak ket saan nga agbalin nga adalak.

Whoever does not carry their own cross, and walk in my steps, can be no disciple of mine.

28 Ta siasino kadakayo, nga agtarigagay nga agpatakder iti tore, ti saan nga agtugaw nga umuna ken mangbilang iti gatad tapno makwentana metlaeng no adda kenkuana dagiti masapulna nga mangleppas iti daytoy?

Why, which of you, when you want to build a tower, does not first sit down and reckon the cost, to see if you have enough to complete it? –

29 Ta no saan, no naikabilnan ti pundasyon ket saan nga kinabaelan nga inleppas, uyawento dagiti amin nga makakita iti daytoy

Otherwise, if you have laid the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will laugh at you,

30 a kunaenda, 'Nangrugi nga nangipatakder daytoy nga tao ngem saanna met nga kinabaelan nga inleppas.'

and say ‘Here is a person who began to build and was not able to finish!’

31 Wenno ania nga ari, iti ipapanna nga mangsango iti maysa pay nga ari iti gubat, ket saan nga agtugaw nga umuna ken dumngeg iti pammagbaga no kabaelanna babaen iti sangapulo a ribo nga lallaki nga makira kaduana ti duapulo a ribo nga lallaki?

Or what king, when he is setting out to fight another king, does not first sit down and consider if with ten thousand men he is able to meet one who is coming against him with twenty thousand?

32 Ket no saan, kabayatan nga adayo pay ti sabali nga bunggoy dagiti suldado, mangibaon iti mangibagi ket dawatenna ti panagkapiada.

And if he cannot, then, while the other is still at a distance, he sends envoys and asks for terms of peace.

33 Isu nga, siasinoman nga saan nga mangibbat kadagiti amin nga adda kenkuana ket saan nga agbalin nga adalak.

And so with everyone of you who does not bid farewell to all you have – you cannot be a disciple of mine.

34 Nasayaat ti asin, ngem no mapukaw daytoy ti ramanna, kasano nga paapgaden manen?

Yes, salt is good; but, if the salt itself should lose its strength, what will be used to season it?

35 Awanen ti usarna para iti daga wenno uray pay iti takki nga napenpen. Maibelleng daytoy iti adayo. Isuna nga adda lapayagna nga agdengngeg, bay-anyo isuna nga agdengngeg.”

It is not fit either for the land or for the manure heap. People throw it away. Let those who have ears to hear with hear!”
