1 Ita, ni Jefte a taga-Galaad ket maysa a natured a mannakigubat, ngem anak isuna ti maysa a balangkantis. Ni Galaad ti amana.
Now, Jephthah the Gileadite, was a mighty man of valour, but, he, was the son of an unchaste woman, —yet Gilead was the father of Jephthah.
2 Nangipasngay pay ti asawa ni Galaad kadagiti dadduma a putotna a lallaki. Idi dimmakkel dagiti annak a lallaki ti asawana, pinilitda ni Jefte a pumanaw iti balay ket kinunada kenkuana, “Saanka a makatawid iti uray ania manipud iti pamiliatayo. Anaknaka ti sabali a babai.”
And the wife of Gilead bare him sons, —and, when the wife’s sons grew up, they thrust out Jephthah, and said unto him—Thou shalt not inherit with the house of our father, for, son of an alien woman, art thou.
3 Pinanawan ngarud ni Jefte dagiti kakabsatna ket nagnaed idiay daga ti Tob. Immay ken nakikaddua kenni Jefte dagiti lallaki a mangsalsalungasing iti linteg ket kimmuyogda kenkuana.
So Jephthah fled from the face of his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob, —and there gathered about Jephthah unemployed men, who went forth with him.
4 Kalpasan ti sumagmamano nga aldaw, ginubat dagiti tattao ti Ammon ti Israel.
And so it came to pass, after a time, —that the sons of Ammon made war with Israel.
5 Idi ginubat dagiti tattao ti Ammon ti Israel, napan dagiti panglakayen iti Galaad tapno pagsublienda ni Jefte manipud iti daga ti Tob.
When, therefore, it came to pass that the sons of Ammon made war with Israel, then went the elders of Gilead, to summon Jephthah out of the land of Tob.
6 Kinunada kenkuana, “Umayka ket idauloandakami tapno makirangettayo kadagiti tattao ti Ammon.”
And they said to Jephthah, Oh! come and be our commander, —that we may do battle with the sons of Ammon.
7 Kinuna ni Jefte kadagiti mangidadaulo ti Galaad. “Ginuradak ken pinilitdak a pumanaw iti balay ti amak. Apay nga umaykayo kaniak ita nga addaan kayo iti pakarigatan?”
But Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, Have not, ye, hated me, and thrust me out from the house of my father? Wherefore then, are ye come unto me, now, when ye are in distress?
8 Kinuna dagiti panglakayen ti Galaad kenni Jefte, “Dayta ti makagapu nga umas-asidegkami kenka ita; sumurotka kadakami ket makirangetka kadagiti tattao ti Ammon, ket sikanto ti mangidaulo kadagiti amin nga agnanaed iti Galaad.”
And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah—Therefore, have we, now, returned unto thee, that, if thou go with us, and do battle with the sons of Ammon, then shalt thou become our head, for all the inhabitants of Gilead.
9 Kinuna ni Jefte kadagiti panglakayen ti Galaad, “No iyawiddak manen tapno makiranget kadagiti tattao ti Ammon, ken no pagballigiennatayo ni Yahweh kadakuada, siakto ti agbalin a mangidadauloyo.”
And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead—If ye do bring me back to do battle with the sons of Ammon, and Yahweh deliver them up before me, shall, I myself, become your head?
10 Kinuna dagiti panglakayen ti Galaad kenni Jefte, “Ni Yahweh koma ti agbalin a saksi iti nagbaetantayo no saantayo nga aramiden ti imbagatayo!”
And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah—Yahweh himself, will be hearkening between us, if, according to thy word, so, we do not.
11 Kimmuyog ngarud ni Jefte kadagiti panglakayen ti Galaad, ket pinagbalin dagiti tattao isuna a mangidaulo ken mangituray kadakuada. Idi adda isuna iti sangoanan ni Yahweh idiay Mizpa, inulit ni Jefte dagiti amin nga inkarina.
Then went Jephthah with the elders of Gilead, and the people set him over them, as head and commander, —and Jephthah spake all his words before Yahweh, in Mizpah.
12 Kalpasanna, nangibaon ni Jefte kadagiti mensahero a mapan iti ari dagiti tattao ti Ammon, a kunana, “Ania daytoy a saan a pagkikinnaawatan iti nagbabaetantayo? Apay nga umayyo piliten nga alaen ti dagami?”
So then Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the sons of Ammon, saying, —What occasion is there between us, that thou shouldst have come unto me, to fight against my land?
13 Insungbat ti ari dagiti tattao ti Ammon kadagiti mensahero ni Jefte, “Gapu ta idi rimmuar ti Israel iti Egipto, inagawda ti dagak manipud iti Arnon agingga iti Jabbok, agingga iti ballasiw ti Jordan. Ita, isubliyo a sikakapia dagidiay a daga.
And the king of the sons of Ammon said unto the messengers of Jephthah—Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt, from Arnon even unto the Jabbok, and unto the Jordan, —now, therefore, restore them in peace.
14 Nangibaon manen ni Jefte kadagiti mensahero a mapan iti Ari dagiti tattao ti Ammon,
And Jephthah yet once more sent messengers unto the king of the sons of Ammon;
15 ket kinunana, “Kastoy ti ibagbaga ni Jefte: saan nga inagaw ti Israel ti daga ti Moab ken ti daga dagiti tattao ti Ammon,
and said unto him, Thus, saith Jephthah, —Israel took not away the land of Moab, or the land of the sons of Ammon;
16 ngem idi rimmuar ti Israel manipud Egipto, limmasatda iti let-ang agingga iti baybay dagiti Runo ken agingga iti Kades.
for, when they came up out of Egypt, and Israel journeyed through the desert as far as the Red Sea, and came in unto Kadesh,
17 Nangibaon ti Israel kadagiti mensahero a mapan iti Ari ti Edom, a kunana, 'Pangngaasim ta palubosandakami a lumabas iti dagam,' ngem saan a dimngeg ti ari ti Edom. Nangibaonda pay kadagiti mensahero a mangibaga iti Ari ti Moab, ngem nagkedked isuna. Isu a nagtalinaed ti Israel idiay Kades.
then did Israel send messengers unto the king of Edom, saying—Let me pass, I pray thee, through thy land, but the king of Edom hearkened not, unto the king of Moab also, sent they, but he would not consent, —so Israel abode in Kadesh.
18 Kalpasanna, limmasatda iti let-ang ket nanglikawda manipud iti daga ti Edom ken iti daga ti Moab, ken naglayunda iti akindaya a paset ti daga ti Moab ket nagkampoda iti ballasiw ti Arnon. Ngem saanda a simrek iti masakupan ti Moab, ta ti Arnon ti beddeng ti Moab.
Then journeyed they through the desert, and went round the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and so came, from the rising of the sun, to the land of Moab, but encamped beyond Arnon, —and entered not within the boundary of Moab, for, Arnon, is the boundary of Moab.
19 Nangibaon ti Israel kadagiti mensahero a mapan kenni Sihon, nga ari dagiti Amorreo, a mangiturturay iti Hesbon: kinuna ti Israel kenkuana, 'Pangngaasim, palubosandakami a lumabas iti dagam a mapan iti daga a kukuami.'
Then did Israel send messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, king of Heshbon, —and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land as far as my own place.
20 Ngem saan a nagtalek ni Sihon iti Israel a lumabas iti masakupanna. Inummong ngarud ni Sihon dagiti amin nga armadana ket nagturongda iti Jaaz, ket sadiay a nakiranget isuna iti Israel.
But Sihon trusted not Israel, to pass through his boundary, so Sihon gathered together all his people, and encamped in Jahaz, —and fought against Israel.
21 Ket ni Yahweh a Dios ti Israel, pinagballigina ti Israel maibusor kenni Sihon ken pinaiturayanna kadakuada dagiti amin a tattaona. Isu a tinagikua ti Israel dagiti amin a daga dagiti Amorreo, nga agnanaed iti dayta a pagilian.
Then did Yahweh, God of Israel, deliver up Sihon, and all his people, into the hand of Israel, and they smote them, —so Israel took possession of all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that land.
22 Tinagikuada amin a banag nga adda iti masakupan dagiti Amorreo, manipud Arnon agingga iti Jabbok ken manipud iti let-ang agingga iti Karayan Jordan.
Yea they took possession of all the territory of the Amorites, —from Arnon, even as far as the Jabbok, and from the desert, even as far as the Jordan.
23 Isu a ni Yahweh ngarud a Dios ti Israel ti nangpapanaw kadagiti Amorreo iti sangoanan dagiti tattaona nga Israel, ken rumbeng aya a tagikuaem ita ti dagada?
Now, therefore, it was, Yahweh God of Israel, that dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, —and shalt, thou, possess it?
24 Saanmo kadi a tagikuaen ti daga nga inted kenka ni Kemos a diosmo? Ket aniaman a daga nga inted kadakami ni Yahweh a Diosmi ket tagikuaenmi.
What Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess, that, wilt thou not possess? and, whatsoever Yahweh our God hath set before us to possess, that, shall we not possess?
25 Pudno kadi a nalalaingka ita ngem ni Balak nga anak ni Sefor nga ari ti Moab? Naituredna kadi ti nakisinnupiat iti Israel? Nakigubat kadi isuna kadakuada?
Now, therefore, art thou, really better, than Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab? Hath there been any, striving at all, with Israel, or any, fighting at all, with them,
26 Kabayatan ti tallogasut a tawen a panagnaed ti Israel idiay Hesbon ken kadagiti barriona daytoy, idiay Aroer ken kadagiti barriona daytoy, ken kadagiti amin a siudad nga asideg iti igid ti Arnon-apay ngarud a saanmo a binabawi dagitoy kabayatan dayta a tiempo?
all the time that Israel hath been dwelling in Heshbon and in her towns, and in Aroer and in her towns, and in all the cities that are on the banks of Arnon, —for three hundred years? Wherefore, then, have ye not made a rescue within that time?
27 Awan ti naaramidko a saan a nasayaat kenka, ngem pagar-aramidannak iti saan a nasayaat babaen iti panangrarautmo kaniak. Ni Yahweh nga ukom ti mangikeddeng ita nga aldaw iti nagbaetan dagiti tattao ti Israel ken dagiti tattao ti Ammon.”
I, therefore, have not sinned against thee; but, thou, art doing me a wrong, in fighting against me, —Let Yahweh, the Judge, give judgment today, between the sons of Israel, and the sons of Ammon!
28 Ngem saan nga inkankano ti ari dagiti tattao ti Ammon ti ballaag nga impatulod ni Jefte kenkuana.
But the king of the sons of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah, which he sent unto him.
29 Kalpasanna, immay ti Espiritu ni Yahweh kenni Jefte, ket limmasat isuna iti Galaad ken Manases, ken limmasat isuna iti Mizpa iti Galaad, ken manipud iti Mizpa iti Galaad ket limmasat isuna kadagiti tattao ti Ammon.
Then came upon Jephthah the spirit of Yahweh, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh, —and passed through Mizpeh of Gilead, and, from Mizpeh of Gilead, he passed through [unto] the sons of Ammon.
30 Nagsapata ni Jefte kenni Yahweh ket kinunana, “No pagballigiennak maibusor kadagiti tattao ti Ammon
And Jephthah vowed a vow unto Yahweh, and said, —If thou wilt, deliver, the sons of Ammon into my hand,
31 ket kukuanto ni Yahweh ti siasinoman a rummuar kadagiti ridaw ti balayko a sumabat kaniak inton agsubliak a sikakapia nga aggapu kadagiti tattao ti Ammon, ket idatonkonto daytoy a kas daton a maipuor amin.”
then shall it be, that, whosoever cometh forth out of the doors of my house, to meet me, when I return successful, from the sons of Ammon, shall belong unto Yahweh, and I will offer him up, as an ascending-sacrifice.
32 Limmasat ngarud ni Jefte kadagiti tattao ti Ammon tapno makiranget kadakuada, ket pinagballigi ni Yahweh isuna.
So then Jephthah passed over unto the sons of Ammon, to fight against them, —and Yahweh delivered them into his hand;
33 Rinautna ida ket adu unay ti napapatay manipud Aroer agingga iti Minnit-duapulo a siudad-ken agingga iti Abel Kerarim. Inturayan ngarud dagiti tattao ti Israel dagiti tattao ti Ammon.
and he smote them, from Aroer even till thou enterest in to Minnith, even twenty cities, and as far as Abel-keramim, with an exceeding great smiting, —and thus were the sons of Ammon subdued before the sons of Israel.
34 Nagawid ni Jefte iti pagtaenganna idiay Mizpa, ket rimmuar sadiay ti putotna a babai nga agtuktukar iti pandereta ken agsalsala a sumabat kenkuana. Isuna laeng ti kakaisuna a putotna, malaksid kenkuana, awanen iti putotna a lalaki wenno babai.
Then came Jephthah towards Mizpah, unto his own house, and lo! his daughter, coming forth to meet him, with timbrels, and with dances, —and, she, was none other than his only child, he had not, besides her, either son or daughter.
35 Apaman a nakitana ti anakna, rinay-abna ti pagan-anayna ket kinunana, “O! Anakko! Rinumeknak babaen iti ladingit, ket sika ti pakaigappuan ti pannakapasakitko! Ta nagsapataak kenni Yahweh, ket saankon a maibabawi ti inkarik.”
And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said—Alas! my daughter, Thou hast, brought me low, Even, thou, hast come to be among them who trouble me, —Yet, I, opened wide my mouth unto Yahweh, and cannot go back.
36 Kinunana kenkuana, “Amak, nagsapataka kenni Yahweh, aramidem kaniak ti amin nga inkarim, gapu ta ni Yahweh ti nangibales para kenka kadagiti kabusormo nga Ammonita.”
And she said unto him—My father! Thou hast opened wide thy mouth unto Yahweh, Do with me, according to that which hath gone forth out of thy mouth, —after that Yahweh hath exacted for thee an avenging from thine enemies, from the sons of Ammon.
37 Kinunana iti amana, “Matungpal koma daytoy a kari kaniak.” Panawannak nga agmamaysa iti dua a bulan, tapno makapanawak ken sumalog iti katurturodan ket pagladingitak ti kinabirhenko, siak ken dagiti kakaduak.”
And she said unto her father, Let this thing, be done for me, —Let me alone two months, that I may depart, and go down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my companions.
38 Kinunana, “Mapanka.” Imbaonna ti anakna nga umadayo iti dua a bulan. Pinanawanna ti amana, kakuyogna dagiti kakaduana, ket nagladingitda iti kinabirhenna idiay katurturodan.
And he said—Depart. So he let her go, for two months, —and she departed, she and her companions, and bewailed her virginity, upon the mountains.
39 Iti panagleppas iti dua a bulan, nagsubli isuna iti amana a mangaramid kenkuana sigun iti insapatana. Ita, saanna a pulos napadasan ti nakikaidda iti maysa a lalaki, ket nagbalin daytoy a kaugalian idiay Israel
And it came to pass, at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, and he fulfilled on her his vow which he had vowed, —she not having known man. And it became a statute, in Israel: —
40 iti uneg ti uppat nga aldaw iti tunggal tawen, istoriaen dagiti annak ti Israel ti maipanggep iti putot a babai ni Jefte a taga-Galaad.
From year to year, departed the daughters of Israel, to lament aloud for the daughter of Jephthah, the Gileadite, four days in the year.
