< Jeremias 42 >
1 Kalpasanna, amin dagiti mangidadaulo iti armada, ni Johanan a putot ni Karea, ni Azarias a putot ni Hosaias, ken amin dagiti tattao manipud iti kanunummoan agingga iti katatan-okan ket immasidegda kenni Jeremias a profeta.
Then Johanan and Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the [other] leaders of the [Israeli] soldiers [who had not surrendered to the army of Babylonia], and many [HYP] [other] people, including those who were important and those who were not important, came
2 Kinunada kenkuana, “Palubosannakami koma nga ibagami kenka dagiti kiddawmi. Ikararagannakami kenni Yahweh a Diosmo para kadagitoy a tattao a nabatbati gapu ta sumagmamanokami laengen, kas makitam met.
to me. They said, “Please listen to our request and pray to Yahweh our God for all of us. Although we were previously a huge number of people, you can see that now we are only a small number of people [who have survived].
3 Kiddawem kenni Yahweh a Diosmo nga ibagana kadakami ti dalan a rumbeng a turongenmi ken ti rumbeng nga aramidenmi.”
[Pray] that Yahweh our God will show us what we should do and where we should go.”
4 Isu a kinuna kadakuada ni Jeremias a profeta, “Nangngegko ti kiddawyo. Dumngegkayo, agkararagak kenni Yahweh a Diosyo a kas iti kiniddawyo. Aniaman ti sungbat ni Yahweh, ibagakto kadakayo. Awan ti ilimedko kadakayo.”
I replied, “Okay, I will pray to Yahweh our God, like you have requested, and I will tell you what he says. I will (tell you everything/not hide anything from you).”
5 Kinunada kenni Jeremias, “Ni Yahweh koma ti agbalin a pudno ken mapagtalkan a saksi maibusor kadakami no saanmi nga aramiden ti amin nga ibaga kadakami ni Yahweh a Diosmo nga aramidenmi.
They replied to me, “We hope/wish that Yahweh our God will be a faithful witness against us if we refuse to do everything that he tells us to do.
6 Nasayaat man wenno dakes daytoy, tungpalenminto ti timek ni Yahweh a Diostayo a pangibabaonanmi kenka, tapno awanto ti pakaan-anoanmi no tungpalenmi ti timek ni Yahweh a Diostayo.”
We are requesting you to ask Yahweh our God what we should do. [When he replies], we will obey him, whether we like what he says or not. We will do that because [we know that] things will go well for us if we obey him.”
7 Ket napasamak a kalpasan ti sangapulo nga aldaw, immay ti sao ni Yahweh kenni Jeremias.
[So I prayed] to Yahweh, and ten days later he gave me his reply.
8 Isu a pinaayaban ni Jeremias ni Johanan a putot a lalaki ni Karea ken dagiti amin a pangulo ti armada a kaduana, ken dagiti amin a tattao manipud iti kanunumoan agingga iti katatan-okan.
So I summoned Johanan and all his [other] soldiers and all the [other] people, including those who were important and those who were not important.
9 Ket kinunana kadakuada, “Ni Yahweh a Dios ti Israel, a nangibaonanyo kaniak tapno maidatagko iti sangoananna ti kiddawyo. Kastoy ti kuna ni Yahweh,
I said to them, “You told me to tell Yahweh, the God whom [we] Israelis [worship], what you were requesting. This is what he replied:
10 'No agsublikayo ket agnaedkayo iti daytoy a daga, ibangonkayo ket saankayonto a dadaelen; imulakayonto ket saankayonto a paruten, ta saankon nga ipatungpal ti didigra nga inyegko kadakayo.
‘You [should] stay here in this land. If you do that, I will cause your [nation] to be strong and not be weak. I will cause you to prosper and not be exiled [again]. I am sorry about the disasters that I [was forced to] cause you to experience.
11 Saankayo nga agbuteng iti ari ti Babilonia, a pagbutbutnganyo. Saankayo nga agbuteng kenkuana—daytoy ket pakaammo ni Yahweh—agsipud ta addaak kadakayo tapno isalakankayo ken ispalenkayo manipud iti imana.
But do not be afraid of the king of Babylon [any more], because I will (be with/help) you. I will rescue you [DOU] from his power [MTY].
12 Ta ipalak-amkonto kadakayo ti asi. Kaasiannakayto ken isublinakayto iti dagayo.
I will be merciful to you by causing him to act kindly toward you. So as a result, he will allow you to stay here in your land.’
13 Ngem kas pangarigan ta ibagayo, “Saankami nga agnaed iti daytoy a daga”—no saankayo a dumngeg iti timekko, ti timek ni Yahweh a Diosyo.
But if you refuse to obey Yahweh our God, and if you say ‘We will not stay here;
14 Kas pangarigan ta ibagayo, “Saan! Mapankami iti daga ti Egipto a saanmi a pakakitaan iti gubat, a saanmi a pakangngegan iti uni ti tangguyob, ken lugar a saankaminto a mabisinan. Agnaedkami sadiay.”
instead, we will go to Egypt. There we will not experience [any] wars, we will not hear trumpets [signaling our soldiers to prepare for battles], and we will not be hungry,’
15 Ita, dumngegkayo iti daytoy a sao ni Yahweh, dakayo a nabatbati iti Juda. Ni Yahweh a Mannakabalin-amin a Dios ti Israel, kastoy ti kunana, 'No ipilityo a mapan idiay Egipto, tapno mapankayo agnaed sadiay,
then listen to what the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [we] Israelis [worship], says: ‘If you are determined to go to Egypt, and you go and live there,
16 ngarud, ti kampilan a pagbutbutnganyo ket un-unaannakayto pay iti daga ti Egipto. Ket ti panagbisin a pagbutbutnganyo, kamatennakayonto idiay Egipto. Ket mataykayonto sadiay.
you will experience those wars and famines that you are afraid of, and you will [all] die there.
17 Isu a mapasamak nga amin a tattao a mangipilit a mapan idiay Egipto tapno agnaed sadiay ket matayto babaen iti kampilan, panagbisin, wenno didigra. Awanto ti makalasat kadakuada, awanto ti makalibas iti didigra nga iyegko kadakuada.
That is what will happen to all you who are determined to go to Egypt and live there. [Some of you] will be killed by the swords [of your enemies, and others of you will die] from famines and from diseases. None of you will escape the disasters that I will bring on you.’
18 Ta kastoy ti kuna ni Yahweh a Mannakabalin-amin a Dios ti Israel: Kas iti pannakaidissuor ti unget ken pungtotko kadagiti agnanaed idiay Jerusalem, maidissuorto met ti pungtotko kadakayo no mapankayo idiay Egipto. Agbalinkayto a pakakitaan iti maysa a nailunod ken mabutengto dagiti tattao inton makitada ti napasamak kadakayo; mausarto ti nagan ti iliyo no adda ti agilunod ken agangaw. Ket saanyonto a makita manen daytoy a lugar.'''
And the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [we] Israelis [worship], also says this: ‘Because I was very angry, I severely punished [MTY] [all] the people of Jerusalem. I will do the same things to you when you go to Egypt. [The result will be that] people will curse you. They will be horrified about [what has happened to] you. They will make fun of you, and you will never see this land again.’
19 Ket kinuna ni Jeremias, “Nagsao ni Yahweh maipapan kadakayo—dakayo a nabatbati iti Juda. Saankayo a mapan idiay Egipto! Ammoyon nga ita nga aldaw, nagbalinak a saksi iti maibusor kadakayo.
You little group of people of Judah who are still alive, [listen to me]: Yahweh has told you, ‘Do not go to Egypt.’ [So] do not forget what I have warned you today.
20 Ta biagyo a mismo ti pagbayadyo iti panangibaonyo kaniak kenni Yahweh a Diosyo a kunayo, 'Ikararagandakami kenni Yahweh a Diostayo. Amin nga ibaga ni Yahweh a Diostayo, ibagam kadakami ket aramidenmi dagitoy.'
I know that you were lying when you requested me to pray to Yahweh our God.
21 Ta imbagak met kadakayo ita nga aldaw, ngem saankayo a dimngeg iti timek ni Yahweh a Diosyo wenno iti aniaman a banag maipapan iti nangibaonanna kaniak kadakayo.
And today I have told you exactly what he said, but [I know that] you will not obey Yahweh our God now, just as you have not obeyed him previously.
22 Ita ngarud, masapul a maammoanyo a mataykayo bababen iti kampilan, panagbisin, ken didigra iti lugar a tinarigagayanyo a mapan pagnaedan.”
You want to go to Egypt and live there. So now, you can be sure of this: [All of] you will die there. [Some of you will be killed] by the swords [of your enemies and others will die] from famines or from diseases.”
