< Santiago 4 >
1 Sadino ti naggapuan iti panagaapa ken panagsisinnupiat kadakayo? Saan kadi a nagtaud daytoy kadagiti dakes a tarigagayyo nga agbibinnusor iti unegyo?
What is the cause of the fighting and quarreling that goes on among you? Isn’t it to be found in the desires which are always at war within you?
2 Tartarigagayanyo ti awan kadakayo. Mangpataykayo ken kamkamatenyo ti saanyo a matagikua. Agaapa ken agriringgorkayo, ngem saanyo a magun-od gapu ta saankayo a dumawdawat iti Dios.
You crave, yet do not have, so you commit murder, so You covet, yet cannot gain your end. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask.
3 Dumawatkayo ket saankayo a makaawat gapu ta dakes a banbanag dagiti dawdawatenyo, tapno mabusbusyo dagitoy kadagiti dakes a tartarigagayyo.
You ask, yet do not receive, because you ask for a wrong purpose – to spend what you get on your pleasures.
4 Dakayo a mannakikamalala a babbai! Saanyo kadi nga ammo nga ti pannakigayyem iti lubong ket pannakisuppiat maibusor iti Dios? Ngarud, ti siasinoman a mangikeddeng nga agbalin a gayyem iti lubong ar-aramidenna ti bagina a kabusor iti Dios.
Unfaithful people! Don’t you know that to be friends with the world means to be at enmity with God? Therefore whoever chooses to be friends with the world makes himself an enemy to God.
5 Wenno ipagarupyo kadi nga awan kaipapanan ti Nasantoan a Sursurat no ibagbagana a ti Espiritu nga inkabilna kadatayo ket umap-apal unay para kadatayo?
Do you suppose scripture means nothing when it says, ‘Envy results from the longings of the spirit which God has implanted within you?’
6 Ngem mangmangted pay ti Dios iti ad-adu a parabur, nga isu ti gapu na a kinuna iti Nasantoan a Surat, “Supringen ti Dios dagiti napalanguad, ngem mangmanted iti parabur kadagiti napakumbaba.”
But he gives us greater grace; and that is why it says, – ‘God opposes the haughty, but gives grace to the humble.’
7 Ngarud, paiturayanyo ti bagbagiyo iti Dios. Supringenyo ti diablo, ket panawannakayonto.
Therefore submit to God. Stand up to the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Umasidegkayo iti Dios, ket umasidegto isuna kadakayo. Dalusanyo dagiti imayo, dakayo a managbasol, ken pasin-awenyo dagiti pusoyo, dakayo nga agduadua.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Make your hands clean, you sinners; and your hearts pure, you vacillators!
9 Agliday, agladingit, ken agsangitkayo! Pagbalinenyo dagiti katkatawayo a ladingit ken ti rag-oyo a liday.
Grieve, mourn, and lament! Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your happiness to gloom!
10 Agpakumbabakayo iti sangoanan ti Apo, ket itag-aynakayonto.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
11 Saankayo nga agsao iti maibusor iti maysa ken maysa, kakabsat. Ti tao nga agsao maibusor iti maysa a kabsat wenno mangukom iti kabsatna ket agsasao a maibusor iti linteg ken uk-ukomenna ti linteg ti Dios. No ukomenyo ti linteg, saankayo nga agtultulnog iti linteg, ngem maysa nga ukom iti daytoy.
Do not disparage one another, friends. The person who disparages others, or passes judgment on them, disparages the Law and passes judgment on the Law. But, if you pass judgment on the Law, you are not obeying it, but judging it.
12 Maysa laeng ti mangmangted iti linteg ken ukom, ti Dios, ti makaisalakan ken makadadael. Siasinokayo a mangukom iti kaarrubayo?
There is only one lawgiver and judge – he who has the power both to save and to destroy. So then who are you to pass judgment on your neighbor?
13 Dumngegkayo, dakayo nga agibagbaga, “Ita nga aldaw wenno inton bigat ket mapankaminto iti daytoy nga ili, ket agnaedkami idiay iti maysa a tawen, ket agtagilakokami, ket makagungunakaminto.”
Listen to me, you who say ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a town and spend a year there, doing business and making money,’
14 Siasino ti makaammo iti mapasamak inton bigat, ken ania ngay met koma ti biagyo? Ta kaslakayo angep nga agparang iti apagbiit ket kalpasanna agpukaw.
yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow! For you are but a puff of smoke that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
15 Ngem ketdi ibagayo koma, “No pagayatan ti Apo, agbiagkaminto ket aramidenminto daytoy wenno dayta.”
Instead you should say ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.’
16 Ngem ita ipaspasindayagyo ti maipapan kadagiti panggepyo. Amin a kasta a panagpaspasindayag ket dakes.
But as it is, you are boasting presumptuously! All such boasting is wicked.
17 Ngarud, kenkuana a makaammo nga agaramid iti nasayaat ngem saanna nga ar-aramiden daytoy, basol kenkuana daytoy.
The person, then, who knows what is right but fails to do it – that is sin in them.
