1 Saan koma nga adu kadakayo ti agbalin a manursuro, kakabsatko, nga ammoyo nga awatentayonto ti dakdakkel a pannakaukom.
My brothers, not many of you should choose to become teachers, knowing that you shall receive a stricter judgment.
2 Ta maitibkultayo amin iti adu a wagas. No saan a maitublak ti siasinoman iti sasaona, isuna ket awan pagkuranganna a tao, matengngelna pay ti sububukel a bagina.
For we all offend in many ways. If anyone does not offend in word, he is a perfect man. And he is then able, as if with a bridle, to lead the whole body around.
3 Ita, no ikabiltayo dagiti busal dagiti kabalyo kadagiti ngiwatda agtulnogda kadatayo, ket mabalintayo a pagpusipusen dagiti bagida.
For so we put bridles into the mouths of horses, in order to submit them to our will, and so we turn their whole body around.
4 Kitaenyo pay a dagiti barko, uray no nagdadakkelda unay ket maidurduron dagiti napipigsa nga angin, ket iturturong iti nagbassit a timon iti sadinoman a tarigagayan ti kapitan a pangiturongan
Consider also the ships, which, though they are great and may be driven by strong winds, yet they are turned around with a small rudder, to be directed to wherever the strength of the pilot might will.
5 Kasta met, ti dila ket maysa a bassit a paset iti bagi, ngem ipasindayagna dagiti dakkel a banbanag. Kitaenyo no kasano a ti dakkel a kabakiran ket masindian babaen iti rissik iti beggang!
So also the tongue certainly is a small part, but it moves great things. Consider that a small fire can set ablaze a great forest.
6 Ti dila ket maysa met laeng nga apuy, maysa a lubong iti kinamanagbasol a naikabil kadagiti paset iti bagitayo, a mangrugrugit iti sububukel a bagi ket puoranna ti dalan iti biag, ken mapuoran ti bagina babaen iti impierno. (Geenna g1067)
And so the tongue is like a fire, comprising all iniquity. The tongue, stationed in the midst of our body, can defile the entire body and inflame the wheel of our nativity, setting a fire from Hell. (Geenna g1067)
7 Ti tunggal kita iti atap nga ayup, billit, agkarkarayam, ken parsua iti baybay ket mapapaamo ken napaamo ti sangkataoan,
For the nature of all beasts and birds and serpents and others is ruled over, and has been ruled over, by human nature.
8 ngem awan kadagiti tattao ti makapaamo iti dila; maysa daytoy a dakes nga awan inanana, napno iti makapatay a sabidong.
But no man is able to rule over the tongue, a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Babaen iti dila, daydayawentayo ti Apo ken Amatayo, ken babaen iti daytoy ket ilunodtayo dagiti tattao, a naaramid iti langa ti Dios.
By it we bless God the Father, and by it we speak evil of men, who have been made in the likeness of God.
10 Manipud iti isu met laeng a ngiwat ket naisao iti pangbendision ken panangilunod. Kakabsatko, saan koma a kastoy dagitoy a banbanag.
From the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so!
11 Ipussuak kadi ti ubbog ti agpada a nasam-it ken napait a danum?
Does a fountain emit, out of the same opening, both sweet and bitter water?
12 Kakabsatko, makapatubo kadi ti igos iti olibo, wenno ti ubas ket mangpatubo iti igos? Kasta met a saan a makapataud ti naapgad nga ubbog iti nasam-it a danum.
My brothers, can the fig tree yield grapes? Or the vine, figs? Then neither is salt water able to produce fresh water.
13 Siasino kadakayo ti nasirib ken mannakaawat? Ipakita koma dayta a tao ti nasayaat a biag babaen kadagiti aramidna iti kinapakumbaba nga aggapu iti kinasirib.
Who is wise and well-taught among you? Let him show, by means of good conversation, his work in the meekness of wisdom.
14 Ngem no addaankayo iti napait a panagimon ken naimot a tarigagay iti pusoyo, saankayo nga agpasindayag ken agulbod a maibusor iti kinapudno.
But if you hold a bitter zeal, and if there is contention in your hearts, then do not boast and do not be liars against the truth.
15 Saan a kinasirib daytoy a bumaba manipud iti ngato, ngem ketdi nainlubongan daytoy, saan a naespirituan, ken sinasairo.
For this is not wisdom, descending from above, but rather it is earthly, beastly, and diabolical.
16 Ta no sadino ti ayan ti panagimon ken naimot a tarigagay, adda ti riribuk ken amin a narugit nga aramid.
For wherever envy and contention is, there too is inconstancy and every depraved work.
17 Ngem ti kinasirib nga aggapu iti ngato ket umuna, nasin-aw, kalpasanna managayat iti kapia, naalumamay, nasayaat ti panagpuspusona, napno iti asi ken nasayaat a bunga, awanan ti panangipangpangruna kadagiti sumagmamano a tattao, ken napasnek.
But within the wisdom that is from above, certainly, chastity is first, and next peacefulness, meekness, openness, consenting to what is good, a plenitude of mercy and good fruits, not judging, without falseness.
18 Ken ti bunga iti kinalinteg ket naimula iti kapia para kadagiti agar-aramid iti kapia.
And so the fruit of justice is sown in peace by those who make peace.
