< Santiago 2 >
1 Kakabsatko, saanyo a suroten ti pammati iti Apotayo a ni Jesu-Cristo, ti Apo iti dayag, babaen iti panangipangpanruna kadagiti sumagmamano a tattao.
My brothers, don’t hold the faith of our glorious Lord Yeshua the Messiah with partiality.
2 No sumrek ti maysa a tao iti taripnongyo a nakasuot kadagiti balitok a singsing ken napipintas a badbado, ken adda met sumrek a nakurapay a tao a narugit ti badona,
For if a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue, and a poor man in filthy clothing also comes in,
3 ket ipampamaysam ti imatangmo iti tao a nakakawes iti napintas a bado, ket kunam, “Pangngaasim ta agtugawka ditoy napintas a lugar,” ngem kunam iti nakurapay a tao, “Agtakderka idiay,” wenno, “Agtugawka iti sakaanak,”
and you pay special attention to him who wears the fine clothing and say, “Sit here in a good place;” and you tell the poor man, “Stand there,” or “Sit by my footstool”
4 saankayo kadi a manguk-ukom kadagiti bagbagiyo, ken agbalbalin nga ukom nga addaan kadagiti dakes a kapanunotan?
haven’t you shown partiality amongst yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
5 Dumngegkayo, ay-ayatek a kakabsat, saan kadi a pinili ti Dios dagiti nakurapay iti lubong tapno agbalin a nabaknang iti pammati ken mangtawid iti pagarian nga inkarina kadagiti mangay-ayat kenkuana?
Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?
6 Ngem pinabainanyo dagiti nakurapay! Saan kadi a dagiti nabaknang ti mangparparigat kadakayo, ken saan kadi nga isuda dagiti mangguyguyod kadakayo idiay pagukoman?
But you have dishonoured the poor man. Don’t the rich oppress you and personally drag you before the courts?
7 Saan kadi a tabtabbaawan dagiti nabaknang ti nasayaat a nagan a nakaayabanyo?
Don’t they blaspheme the honourable name by which you are called?
8 Nupay kasta, no tungpalenyo ti naarian a linteg, kas naisurat iti Nasantoan a Sursurat, “Masapul nga ayatem ti karrubam kas iti bagim,” nasayaat ti ar-aramidenyo.
However, if you fulfil the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself,” you do well.
9 Ngem no ipangrunayo ti sumagmamano a tattao, agbasbasolkayo, a napasingkedan a nagbasol babaen iti linteg a kas mannaglabsing iti linteg.
But if you show partiality, you commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.
10 Ta siasinoman nga agtulnog iti sibubukel a linteg, ngem maitibkol iti maysa a banag, makabasol isuna ti pananglabsing iti amin a linteg!
For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
11 Ta ti Dios a nangibaga, “Saanka a makikamalala,” kunana pay, “Saanka a mangpatay.” No saankayo a makikamalala, ngem mangpataykayo, linabsingyo ti linteg ti Dios.
For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not commit murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.
12 Isu nga agsao ken agtulnogkayo a kas kadagiti dandanin maukom babaen iti linteg ti wayawaya.
So speak and so do as men who are to be judged by the law of freedom.
13 Ta umay ti pannakaukom nga awanan asi kadagiti saan a nangipakita iti asi. Agballigi ti asi maibusor iti pannakaukom!
For judgement is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgement.
14 Ania ti pagsayaatanna, kakabsatko, no ibaga ti maysa a tao nga adda ti pammatina, ngem awanan isuna kadagiti aramid? Maisalakan kadi isuna dayta a pammati?
What good is it, my brothers, if a man says he has faith, but has no works? Can faith save him?
15 No agkasapulan ti kabsat a lalaki wenno babai kadagiti badbado ken inaldaw a taraon,
And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food,
16 ket ibaga ti maysa kadakayo kadakuada, “Mapanka nga addaan kapia, agpabaraka ken manganka a nasayaat,” ngem saanmo nga ited kadakuada dagiti kasapulanda a banbanag a maipaay iti bagi, ania ti pagsayaatanna dayta?
and one of you tells them, “Go in peace. Be warmed and filled;” yet you didn’t give them the things the body needs, what good is it?
17 Iti isu met laeng a wagas, ti pammati, no awanan kadagiti aramid, ket natay.
Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself.
18 Ngem adda pay ti mangibaga, “Adda pammatim, ken addaanak kadagiti aramid.” Ipakitam kaniak ti pammatim nga awanan kadagiti aramid, ket ipakitak kenka ti pammatik babaen kadagiti aramidko.
Yes, a man will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
19 Mamatika nga adda ti maymaysa a Dios; ustoka. Ngem patpatien met dagiti demonio dayta ket agpigergerda.
You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe—and shudder.
20 Kayatmo kadi a maammoan, maag a tao, no kasano a ti pammati nga awanan kadagiti aramid ket awan serbina?
But do you want to know, vain man, that faith apart from works is dead?
21 Saan kadi a ni Abraham nga amatayo ket napalinteg babaen kadagiti aramid idi indatonna ni Isaac nga anakna a lalaki iti rabaw ti altar?
Wasn’t Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?
22 Makitayo a nagtrabaho ti pammati kadagiti aramidna, ket babaen kadagiti aramid nagun-od iti pammatina ti pangngepna.
You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected.
23 Natungpal ti Nasantoan a Surat a kunkunana, “Pinati ni Abraham ti Dios, ket naibilang kenkuana a kas kinalinteg.” Isu a naawagan ni Abraham a gayyem ti Dios.
So the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of God.
24 Makitayo a babaen kadagiti aramid napalinteg ti maysa a tao, ken saan laeng a babaen iti pammati.
You see then that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith.
25 Saan kadi nga iti kasta met a wagas a ni Rahab a balangkantis ket napalinteg babaen kadagiti aramid, idi pinasangbayna dagiti mensahero ken imbaonna ida babaen iti sabali a dalan?
In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
26 Ta kas iti bagi nga awanan iti espiritu ket natay, kasta met ti pammati nga awanan kadagiti aramid ket natay.
For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.
