< II Samuel 3 >
1 Ita, adda napaut a gubat iti nagbaetan ti balay ni Saul ken iti balay ni David. Ket pimmigsa a pimmigsa ni David, ngem kimmapuy a kimmapuy ti balay ni Saul.
Now there was long war between Saul’s house and David’s house. David grew stronger and stronger, but Saul’s house grew weaker and weaker.
2 Naipasngay dagiti putot ni David idiay Hebron. Ti inauna a putot ket ni Amnon, a putotna kenni Ahinoam manipud Jezreel.
Sons were born to David in Hebron. His firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess;
3 Ti maikaddua a putotna ket ni Keleab, nga impasngay ni Abigail, ti balo ni Nabal a taga Carmel. Ti maikatlo, ni Absalon, a putot ni Maaca a putot Tolmai nga ari ti Gesur.
and his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;
4 Ti maikapat a putot ni David, ni Adonija nga anak ni Haggit. Ti maikalima a putotna ket ni Sefatias nga anak ni Abital,
and the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;
5 ken ti maikanem, ni Itream nga anak ti asawa ni David a ni Egla. Dagitoy dagiti lallaki a putot ni David a naiyanak idiay Hebron.
and the sixth, Ithream, of Eglah, David’s wife. These were born to David in Hebron.
6 Dimteng ti tiempo kabayatan ti gubat iti nagbaetan ti balay ni Saul ken iti balay ni David a pinapigsa ni Abner ti bagina iti balay ni Saul.
While there was war between Saul’s house and David’s house, Abner made himself strong in Saul’s house.
7 Adda inkabbalay ni Saul a managan Rispa, a babai nga anak ni Aiah. Kinuna ni Isboset kenni Abner, “Apay a kinaiddam ti inkabbalay ni amak?”
Now Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah; and Ishbosheth said to Abner, “Why have you gone in to my father’s concubine?”
8 Ket makaunget unay ni Abner kadagiti sasao ni Isboset ket kinunana, “Maysaak kadi nga ulo ti aso ti Juda? Ita nga aldaw, ipakpakitak ti kinapudnok iti balay ni Saul, nga amam, kadagiti kakabsatna a lallaki ken kadagiti gagayyemna, babaen iti saanko panangipaima kenka kenni David. Ngem pabasulennak pay laeng ita nga aldaw maipapan iti dayta a babai?
Then Abner was very angry about Ishbosheth’s words, and said, “Am I a dog’s head that belongs to Judah? Today I show kindness to your father Saul’s house, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David; and yet you charge me today with a fault concerning this woman!
9 Aramiden koma ti Dios kaniak, Abner, ken nalablabes pay, no saanko nga aramiden para kenni David ti kas insapata ni Yahweh kenkuana,
God do so to Abner, and more also, if, as the LORD has sworn to David, I do not do even so to him:
10 nga iyakar ti pagarian manipud iti balay ni Saul ken panangisaad iti trono ni David iti entero nga Israel, ken iti entero a Juda, manipud Dan agingga iti Beerseba.”
to transfer the kingdom from Saul’s house, and to set up David’s throne over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba.”
11 Saan a makasungbat ni Isboset kenni Abner, gapu ta mabuteng isuna kenkuana.
He could not answer Abner another word, because he was afraid of him.
12 Ket nangibaon ni Abner kadagiti mensahero a mapan kenni David a makisarita para kenkuana a mangibaga, “Siasino ti makindaga iti daytoy? Makitulagka kaniak ket makitamto nga adda kenka ti imak, a mangiyeg kenka iti amin nga Israel.”
Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, “Whose is the land?” and saying, “Make your alliance with me, and behold, my hand will be with you to bring all Israel around to you.”
13 Simmungbat ni David, “Nasayaat, makitulagak kenka. Ngem maysa a banag ti kiddawek kenka ket saanmo a makita ti rupak malaksid no iyegmo nga umuna ni Mikal, ti putot a babai ni Saul inton umaynak kitaen.”
David said, “Good. I will make a treaty with you, but one thing I require of you. That is, you will not see my face unless you first bring Michal, Saul’s daughter, when you come to see my face.”
14 Ket nangibaon ni David kadagiti mensahero kenni Isboset, a putot ni Saul, a kunkunana, “Itedmo kaniak ti asawak a ni Mikal, ta binayadak iti gatad a sangagasut a kudil ti mabagbagi dagiti Filisteo.”
David sent messengers to Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, saying, “Deliver me my wife Michal, whom I was given to marry for one hundred foreskins of the Philistines.”
15 Isu a nangibaon ni Isboset iti mangala kenni Mikal manipud iti asawana, a ni Paltiel a putot ni Lais.
Ishbosheth sent and took her from her husband, Paltiel the son of Laish.
16 Kimmuyog kenkuana ti asawana nga agsangsangit kabayatan ti ipapanna, ket simmurot kenkuana agingga idiay Bahurim. Ket kinuna ni Abner kenkuana, “Agawidkan.” Isu a nagsubli isuna.
Her husband went with her, weeping as he went, and followed her to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, “Go! Return!” and he returned.
17 Nakisarita ni Abner kadagiti panglakayen ti Israel a kunana, “Iti napalabas kinalikagumanyo nga agari koma ni David kadakayo.
Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, “In times past, you sought for David to be king over you.
18 Aramidenyo itan. Gapu ta imbaga ni Yahweh maipapan kenni David a kunana, 'Babaen iti ima ti adipenko a ni David isalakankonto dagiti tattaok nga Israel manipud iti pannakabalin dagiti Filisteo ken kadagiti amin a kabusorda.'”
Now then do it! For the LORD has spoken of David, saying, ‘By the hand of my servant David, I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.’”
19 Nakisao pay a mismo ni Abner kadagiti tattao ti Benjamin. Kalpasanna, napan pay ni Abner a makisarita kenni David idiay Hebron tapno ipalawagna amin a banbanag a tinarigagayan dagiti Israelita ken ti sangkabalayan ti Benjamin nga aramiden.
Abner also spoke in the ears of Benjamin; and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel and to the whole house of Benjamin.
20 Idi simmangpet idiay Hebron da Abner ken dagiti duapulo kadagiti tattaona a mangkita kenni David, nangisagana ni David iti padaya para kadakuada.
So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. David made Abner and the men who were with him a feast.
21 Impalawag ni Abner kenni David, “Tumakderak ket ummongek amin nga Israel para kenka, apok nga ari, tapno makitulagda kenka tapno maiturayam dagiti amin a tarigagayam nga iturayan.” Pinapanaw ngarud ni David ni Abner, ket pimmanaw ni Abner nga addaan kapia.
Abner said to David, “I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may reign over all that your soul desires.” David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.
22 Kalpasanna, simmangpet dagiti soldado ni David ken ni Joab manipud iti panangrautda ket adu ti insangpetda a sinamsamda. Ngem awanen ni Abner iti ayan ni David idiay Hebron. Pinapanawen ni David, ket nakapanawen ni Abner addaan kapia.
Behold, David’s servants and Joab came from a raid and brought in a great plunder with them; but Abner was not with David in Hebron, for he had sent him away, and he had gone in peace.
23 Idi simmangpet da Joab ken amin nga armada a kaduana, imbagada kenni Joab, “Ni Abner a putot ni Ner ket napan iti ari, ket pinapanaw ti ari isuna, ket pimmanaw ni Abner nga addaan kapia.”
When Joab and all the army who was with him had come, they told Joab, “Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he has sent him away, and he has gone in peace.”
24 Ket napan ni Joab iti ayan ti Ari ket kinunana, “Ania ti inaramidmo? Kitaeman, immay ni Abner kenka! Apay a pinapanawmo isuna, ket awanen isuna?
Then Joab came to the king and said, “What have you done? Behold, Abner came to you. Why is it that you have sent him away, and he is already gone?
25 Saanmo kadi nga ammo nga immay ni Abner a putot ni Ner tapno allilawennaka ken tapno ammoenna dagiti panggepmo, ken adalenna ti tunggal aramidem?”
You know Abner the son of Ner. He came to deceive you, and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you do.”
26 Idi pinanawan ni Joab ni David, nangibaon ni Joab kadagiti mensahero a mangkamakam kenni Abner, ket insublida isuna manipud iti bubon ti Sira, ngem saan nga ammo ni David daytoy.
When Joab had come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the well of Sirah; but David did not know it.
27 Idi nakasubli ni Abner idiay Hebron, inayaban isuna ni Joab idiay igid ti ruangan tapno makisarita kenkuana iti sililimed, ket sadiay a dinuyok ni Joab ti tianna ket pinapatayna isuna. Iti daytoy a wagas, imbales ni Joab ti dara ni Asael a kabsatna.
When Abner had returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the middle of the gate to speak with him quietly, and struck him there in the body, so that he died for the blood of Asahel his brother.
28 Idi nangngeg ni David ti maipapan iti daytoy ket kinunana, “Siak ken ti pagariak ket agnanayon nga inosente iti sangoanan ni Yahweh maipapan iti dara ni Abner nga anak ni Ner. “Agdissuor koma ti dibbut iti pannakatay ni Abner iti ulo ni Joab ken iti amin a balay ti amana.
Afterward, when David heard it, he said, “I and my kingdom are guiltless before the LORD forever of the blood of Abner the son of Ner.
29 Adda koma a kanayon iti pamiliana ti agtutot wenno sakit ti kudil wenno lugpi ken agsarrukod a magna wenno matay iti kampilan wenno agkurang iti makan.
Let it fall on the head of Joab and on all his father’s house. Let there not fail from the house of Joab one who has a discharge, or who is a leper, or who leans on a staff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacks bread.”
30 Isu a pinatay da Joab ken Abisai a kabsatna ni Abner, gapu ta napatayna ti kasbatda a ni Asael iti ranget idiay Gabaon.
So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.
31 Kinuna ni David kenni Joab ken kadagiti amin a tattao a kakaduana, “Pisangenyo dagiti pagan-anayyo, agarwatkayo iti nakirsang a lupot, ket dung-awanyo ti bangkay ni Abner.” Ket nagna ni David iti likudan ti bangkay idi maipunpon daytoy.
David said to Joab and to all the people who were with him, “Tear your clothes, and clothe yourselves with sackcloth, and mourn in front of Abner.” King David followed the bier.
32 Intanemda ni Abner idiay Hebron. Impigsa ti ari ti sangitna idiay tanem ni Abner, ket nagsangit met dagiti amin a tattao.
They buried Abner in Hebron; and the king lifted up his voice and wept at Abner’s grave; and all the people wept.
33 Nagleddaang ti ari ken nagdung-aw, “Rumbeng kadi a matay ni Abner a kas iti pannakatay ti maysa a maag?
The king lamented for Abner, and said, “Should Abner die as a fool dies?
34 Saan nagalotan dagiti imam. Saan a nakawaran dagiti sakam. Kas iti pannakapasag ti tao iti sangoanan dagiti annak ti awanan hustisia, isu a napasagka.” Nagsangit manen dagiti tattao gapu kenkuana.
Your hands were not bound, and your feet were not put into fetters. As a man falls before the children of iniquity, so you fell.” All the people wept again over him.
35 Immay dagiti amin a tattao a mangallukoy kenni David a mangan kabayatan nga aldaw pay laeng, ngem nagsapata ni David, “Aramiden koma ti Dios kaniak, ken ad-ada pay koma, no rumamanak ti tinapay wenno anaiman sakbay a lumnek ti init.”
All the people came to urge David to eat bread while it was yet day; but David swore, saying, “God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread or anything else, until the sun goes down.”
36 Nadlaw dagiti amin a tattao ti panagladingit ni David, ken naay-ayoda iti daytoy, aniaman nga inaramid ti ari ket naay-ayoda.
All the people took notice of it, and it pleased them, as whatever the king did pleased all the people.
37 Isu a naawatan amin dagiti tattao ken amin nga Israelita a saan a pagayatan ti ari a mapapatay iti dayta nga aldaw ni Abner nga anak ni Ner.
So all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to kill Abner the son of Ner.
38 Kinuna ti ari kadagiti adipenna “Saanyo kadi nga ammo a maysa a prinsipe ken natan-ok a tao ti napasag iti daytoy nga aldaw iti Israel?
The king said to his servants, “Do not you know that a prince and a great man has fallen today in Israel?
39 Ken nakapsutak ita nga aldaw, uray no napulotanak nga ari. Dagitoy a lallaki, a putot ni Zeruyas, ket naranggas unay kaniak. Pagbayaden koma ni Yahweh dagiti managdakdakes, babaen iti panangdusana kenkuana gapu iti kinadangkesna, a kas maikari kenkuana.”
I am weak today, though anointed king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me. May the LORD reward the evildoer according to his wickedness.”
