< I Samuel 4 >

1 Nakadanon ti sao ni Samuel iti entero nga Israel. Ita, mapan makigubat ti Israel kadagiti Filisteo. Nagkampoda idiay Ebenezer, ket nagkampo dagiti Filisteo idiay Afek.
The word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and encamped beside Ebenezer; and the Philistines encamped in Aphek.
2 Naglilinya dagiti Filisteo a makigubat iti Israel. Idi nagtultuloy ti gubat, inabak dagiti Filisteo ti Israel, a nakatayan ti agarup uppat a ribu a tattao iti paggugubatan.
The Philistines put themselves in array against Israel. When they joined battle, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men of the army in the field.
3 Idi napan dagiti tattao iti kampo, kinuna dagiti panglakayen ti Israel, “Apay nga impaabaknatayo ni Yahweh kadagiti Filisteo ita nga aldaw? Iyegtayo ditoy ti lakasa ti tulag ni Yahweh manipud Silo, tapno adda koma ditoy a kaduatayo, tapno pagtalinaidennatayo a natalged manipud iti kinapigsa dagiti kabusortayo.”
When the people had come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, “Why has the LORD defeated us today before the Philistines? Let’s get the ark of the LORD’s covenant out of Shiloh and bring it to us, that it may come among us and save us out of the hand of our enemies.”
4 Isu a nangibaon dagiti tattao kadagiti lallaki idiay Silo; manipud sadiay, binaklayda ti lakasa ti tulag ni Yahweh a mannakabalin-amin, a nakatugaw iti ngatoen dagiti kerubim. Adda sadiay dagiti dua nga annak ni Eli, da Ofni ken Finees, agraman ti lakasa ti tulag ti Dios.
So the people sent to Shiloh, and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of the LORD of Armies, who sits above the cherubim; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
5 Idi naisangpet iti kampo ti lakasa ti tulag ni Yahweh, nagpukkaw iti napigsa dagiti amin a tattao ti Israel, ket nagungor ti daga.
When the ark of the LORD’s covenant came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth resounded.
6 Idi nangngeg dagiti Filisteo ti ariwawa dagiti agpupukkaw, kinunada, “Ania ti kayat a sawen daytoy a napigsa a panagpupukkaw iti kampo dagiti Hebreo?” Ket naamirisda nga adda iti kampo ti lakasa ti tulag ni Yahweh.
When the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, “What does the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?” They understood that the LORD’s ark had come into the camp.
7 Nagbuteng dagiti Filisteo; kinunada, “Immay ti Dios iti kampo.” Kinunada, “Asitayo pay! Awan pay ti kastoy a napasamak idi!
The Philistines were afraid, for they said, “God has come into the camp.” They said, “Woe to us! For there has not been such a thing before.
8 Asitayo pay! Siasino ti mangsalaknib kadatayo manipud iti pigsa daytoy a mannakabalin a Dios? Daytoy ti Dios a nangdarup kadagiti taga-Egipto idiay let-ang babaen iti agduduma a kita ti angol.
Woe to us! Who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods that struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.
9 Tumured ken agpakalalakikayo, dakayo a Filisteo, ta no saan agbalinkayo a tagabu dagiti Hebreo, a kas panagbalinda a tagabuyo. Agpakalalaki ken makirangetkayo.”
Be strong and behave like men, O you Philistines, that you not be servants to the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Strengthen yourselves like men, and fight!”
10 Nakiranget dagiti Filisteo, ket naabak ti Israel. Tunggal maysa a lalaki ket timmaray iti kampona, ket adu unay dagiti napapatay; ta tallopulo a soldado manipud iti Israel ti naidasay.
The Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and each man fled to his tent. There was a very great slaughter; for thirty thousand footmen of Israel fell.
11 Naalada ti lakasa ti tulag ti Dios, ket natay dagiti dua nga anak ni Eli, a da Ofni ken Finees.
God’s ark was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.
12 Iti dayta met laeng nga aldaw, maysa a lalaki a nagtaud iti tribu ni Benjamin ti timmaray manipud iti paggugubatan ket napan idiay Silo, simmangpet a naray-ab ti kawesna ken kataptapok ti ulona.
A man of Benjamin ran out of the army and came to Shiloh the same day, with his clothes torn and with dirt on his head.
13 Idi simmangpet isuna, nakatugaw ni Eli iti tugawna iti igid ti dalan nga agpadpadaan gapu ta agkebba-kebba ti pusona ta maseknan isuna iti lakasa ti tulag ti Dios. Idi simrek ti lalaki iti siudad ken imbagana ti damag, nagsangit iti napigsa ti entero a siudad.
When he came, behold, Eli was sitting on his seat by the road watching, for his heart trembled for God’s ark. When the man came into the city and told about it, all the city cried out.
14 Idi nangngeg ni Eli ti ariwawa ti napigsa a panagsasangit, kinunana, “Ania ti kayat a sawen daytoy nga ariwawa?” Dagus nga immay ti lalaki ket imbagana kenni Eli ti makagapu.
When Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, “What does the noise of this tumult mean?” The man hurried, and came and told Eli.
15 Ita, siyam a pulo ket walo ti tawen ni Eli; nakapsuten ti panagkitana, ket saanen a makakita.
Now Eli was ninety-eight years old. His eyes were set, so that he could not see.
16 Kinuna ti lalaki kenni Eli, “Siak ti naggapu iti paggugubatan. Naglibasak manipud iti paggugubatan ita nga aldaw.” Ket kinunana, “Ania ti napasamak anakko?”
The man said to Eli, “I am he who came out of the army, and I fled today out of the army.” He said, “How did the matter go, my son?”
17 Simmungbat ti lalaki a nangiyeg iti damag ket kinunana, “Intarayan ti Israel dagiti Filisteo. Nakaro met ti pannakaabak dagiti tattao. Dagiti dua nga annakmo, a da Ofni ken Finees, ket natayen ken naipanaw ti lakasa ti tulag ti Dios.”
He who brought the news answered, “Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has been also a great slaughter among the people. Your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and God’s ark has been captured.”
18 Idi nadakamatna ti lakasa ti tulag ti Dios, naliad ni Eli iti tugawna iti igid ti ruangan. Narung-o ti tengngedna, ket natay, gapu ta lakayen ken nadagsen isuna. Nagbalin isuna a kas ukom iti Israel iti las-ud ti uppat a pulo a tawen.
When he made mention of God’s ark, Eli fell from off his seat backward by the side of the gate; and his neck broke, and he died, for he was an old man and heavy. He had judged Israel forty years.
19 Ita, ti manugangna nga asawa ni Finees ket masikog ken dandanin ti panaganakna. Idi nadamagna a naipanaw ti lakasa ti tulag ti Dios ken natay ti katugangan ken asawana, nagparintumeng isuna ket naganak, ngem nakaro unay ti ut-ot a sinagabana gapu iti panaganakna.
His daughter-in-law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, near to giving birth. When she heard the news that God’s ark was taken and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and gave birth; for her pains came on her.
20 Idi matmatayen isuna, kinuna dagiti babbai a nangpaanak kenkuana, “Saanka a mawanan iti namnanama, ta nangipasngayka iti maysa a lalaki.” Ngem saan isuna a simmungbat wenno saanna ida nga impangag.
About the time of her death the women who stood by her said to her, “Do not be afraid, for you have given birth to a son.” But she did not answer, neither did she regard it.
21 Pinanagananna ti ubing iti Icabod, a kinunana, “Pimmanaw ti dayag manipud iti Israel!” ta naagawda ti lakasa ti tulag ti Dios, ken gapu iti katugangan ken asawana. Ket kinunana,
She named the child Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel!” because God’s ark was taken, and because of her father-in-law and her husband.
22 “Pimmanaw ti dayag manipud iti Israel, gapu ta naagaw ti lakasa ti tulag ti Dios.”
She said, “The glory has departed from Israel; for God’s ark has been taken.”
