< I Samuel 18 >

1 Idi nalpas ti pannakisarsaritana kenni Saul, naisinggalot ti kararua ni Jonatan iti kararua ni David, ket impateg isuna ni Jonatan a kas iti panangipategna iti bagina.
And it comes to pass, when he finishes to speak to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan has been bound to the soul of David, and Jonathan loves him as his own soul.
2 Innala ni Saul ni David nga agserbi kenkuana iti dayta nga aldaw; saannan a pinalubosan isuna nga agsubli iti pagtaengan ti amana.
And Saul takes him on that day, and has not permitted him to return to the house of his father.
3 Ket nagtinnulag ni Jonatan ken ni David iti panaggayyemda gapu ta inayat ni Jonatan isuna a kas iti panagayatna iti bagina.
And Jonathan makes—David also—a covenant, because he loves him as his own soul,
4 Inussob ni Jonatan ti kagay a suot-suotna ket intedna daytoy kenni David agraman ti kabalna, kasta met ti kampilan, bai, ken barikesna.
and Jonathan strips himself of the upper robe which [is] on him, and gives it to David, and his long robe, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
5 Mapan ni David iti sadinoman a pangibaonan kenkuana ni Saul, ket nagballigi isuna. Dinutokan ni Saul isuna a pangulo dagiti lallaki a mannakigubat. Makaay-ayo daytoy iti imatang dagiti amin a tattao ken kasta met iti imatang dagiti adipen ni Saul.
And David goes out wherever Saul sends him; he acted wisely, and Saul sets him over the men of war, and it is good in the eyes of all the people, and also in the eyes of the servants of Saul.
6 Iti panagawidda kadagiti pagtaenganda manipud iti panangparmekda kadagiti Filisteo, immay dagiti babbai iti amin a siudad ti Israel, agkakanta ken agsasalada, a mangsabat kenni Ari Saul, babaen kadagiti pandereta, nga addaan iti rag-o, ken babaen iti pangtukar nga instrumento.
And it comes to pass, in their coming in, in David’s returning from striking the Philistine, that the women come out from all the cities of Israel to sing—also the dancers—to meet Saul the king, with tambourines, with joy, and with three-stringed instruments;
7 Nagkakanta dagiti babbai bayat nga agtuktukkarda; kinantada: “Pinatay ni Saul dagiti rinibribuna, Ket ni David dagiti sangapulo a ribuna.”
and the women answer—those playing, and say, “Saul has struck among his thousands, And David among his myriads.”
8 Kasta unay ti unget ni Saul, ket nasakit ti nakemna iti daytoy a kanta. Kinunana, “Impabaklayda kenni David dagiti sangapulo a ribu, ngem impabaklayda laeng kaniak dagiti rinibribu. Ania pay ti magun-odna no di ti kinaari?”
And it is exceedingly displeasing to Saul, and this thing is evil in his eyes, and he says, “They have given myriads to David, and they have given the thousands to me, and what more [is there] for him but the kingdom?”
9 Ket manipud iti dayta nga aldaw pinagatapan ni Saul ni David iti dakes.
And Saul is eyeing David from that day and from then on.
10 Iti simmaruno nga aldaw, dagus nga immay kenni Saul ti dakes nga espiritu a binilin ti Dios. Ket nagmangaw-mangaw isuna iti uneg ti pagtaenganna. Isu a tinukar ni David ti instrumentona, a kas iti ar-aramidenna iti inaldaw. Igge-iggem ni Saul ti gayangna.
And it comes to pass, on the next day, that the spirit of sadness [from] God prospers over Saul, and he prophesies in the midst of the house, and David is playing with his hand, as [he did] day by day, and the javelin [is] in the hand of Saul,
11 Ingayang ni Saul ti gayangna, ta pinanunotna, “Ilansakto ni David iti pader.” Ngem nakalisi ni David iti sangoanan ni Saul iti namindua a daras iti kastoy a wagas.
and Saul casts the javelin and says, “I strike through David, even through the wall”; and David turns around out of his presence twice.
12 Nagbuteng ni Saul kenni David, gapu ta adda ni Yahweh kenkuana, ngem awanen kenni Saul.
And Saul is afraid of the presence of David, for YHWH has been with him, and He has turned aside from Saul;
13 Isu a pinapanaw isuna ni Saul iti sangoananna ket dinutokanna a pangulo ti sangaribu. Babaen iti daytoy a wagas, indauloan ni David iti gubat dagiti soldadona ken idauloanna met laeng ida nga agawid manipud iti paggugubatan.
and Saul turns him aside from him, and appoints him to himself [for] head of one thousand, and he goes out and comes in, before the people.
14 Kanayon nga agballigi ni David iti amin a pakigubatanna, ta adda ni Yahweh kenkuana.
And David is acting wisely in all his ways, and YHWH [is] with him,
15 Idi nakita ni Saul a kanayon nga agballigi isuna, ad-adda a nagsiddaaw isuna kenkuana.
and Saul sees that he is acting very wisely, and is afraid of him,
16 Ngem inayat ti entero nga Israel ken Juda ni David, idauloanna iti gubat dagiti soldadona ken idauloanna met laeng ida nga agawid manipud iti paggugubatan.
and all Israel and Judah love David when he is going out and coming in before them.
17 Ket kinuna ni Saul kenni David, “Adtoy ti inauna nga anakko a babai a ni Merab. Ipaasawak isuna kenka. Agbalinka laeng a natured para kaniak ken makirangetka kadagiti gubat ni Yahweh.” Ta pinanunot ni Saul, “Saan a ti imak ti mangdangran kenkuana, ngem ti ima dagiti Filisteo ti mangdangran kenkuana,”
And Saul says to David, “Behold, my elder daughter Merab—I give her to you for a wife; only, be for a son of valor to me, and fight the battles of YHWH”; and Saul said, “Do not let my hand be on him, but let the hand of the Philistines be on him.”
18 Kinuna ni David kenni Saul, “Siasinoak koma, ken ania koma ti kabibiagko, wenno ti pamilia ti amak idiay Israel, tapno agbalinak a manugang ti ari?”
And David says to Saul, “Who [am] I? And what [is] my life—the family of my father in Israel—that I am son-in-law of the king?”
19 Ngem idi tiempo nga agbalin koman nga asawa ni David ni Merab nga anak a babai ni Saul, naipaasawa isuna kenni Adriel a taga-Mehola.
And it comes to pass, at the time of the giving of Merab daughter of Saul to David, that she has been given to Adriel the Meholathite for a wife.
20 Ngem ni Mical, nga anak a babai ni Saul, inayatna ni David. Imbagada daytoy kenni Saul, ket naay-ayo isuna iti daytoy.
And Michal daughter of Saul loves David, and they declare [it] to Saul, and the thing is right in his eyes,
21 Ket pinanunot ni Saul, “Ipaasawak isuna kenkuana, tapno agbalin isuna a palab-og kenkuana, ket tapno bumusorto kenkuana dagiti Filisteo.” Isu a kinuna ni Saul kenni David iti maikadua a daras, “Agbalinkanto a manugangko.”
and Saul says, “I give her to him, and she is for a snare to him, and the hand of the Philistines is on him”; and Saul says to David, “By the second—you become my son-in-law today.”
22 Binilin ni Saul dagiti adipenna, “Katungtongenyo ni David iti nalimed, ket ibagayo, “Kitaem, naragsakan ti ari kenka, ken dagiti amin nga adipenna ket ipatpategdaka. Ita ngarud, agbalinkan a manugang ti ari.'”
And Saul commands his servants, “Speak to David gently, saying, Behold, the king has delighted in you, and all his servants have loved you, and now, be son-in-law of the king.”
23 Imbaga ngarud dagiti adipen ni Saul dagitoy a sasao kenni David. Ket kinuna ni David, “Nalag-an kadi laeng a banag kadakayo ti agbalin a manugang ti ari, agsipud ta nakurapayak laeng a tao, ken nababaak laeng?”
And the servants of Saul speak these words in the ears of David, and David says, “Is it a light thing in your eyes to be son-in-law of the king—and I a poor man, and lightly esteemed?”
24 Impadamag dagiti adipen ni Saul kenkuana dagiti sasao nga imbaga ni David.
And the servants of Saul declare [it] to him, saying, “David has spoken according to these words.”
25 Ket kinuna ni Saul, “Kastoyto ti ibagayo kenni David, 'Saan a tartarigagayan ti ari ti aniaman a sab-ong, dagiti laeng sangagasut a kudil iti murdong ti mabagbagi dagiti Filisteo ti kasapulan tapno makabales ti ari kadagiti kabusorna.'” Ita, impagarup ni Saul a matnag ni David iti ima dagiti Filisteo.
And Saul says, “Thus you say to David, There is no delight for the king in dowry, but in one hundred foreskins of the Philistines—to be avenged on the enemies of the king”; and Saul thought to cause David to fall by the hand of the Philistines.
26 Idi imbaga dagiti adipenna dagitoy a sasao kenni David, naragsakan ni David nga agbalin a manugang ti ari.
And his servants declare these words to David, and the thing is right in the eyes of David, to be son-in-law of the king; and the days have not been full,
27 Sakbay a nagleppas dagidiay nga al-aldaw, napan ni David a kaduana dagiti tattaona ket pinatayda dagiti dua gasut a Filisteo. Inyeg ni David dagiti kudil iti murdong ti mabagbagida, ket intedda amin dagitoy iti ari, tapno agbalin isuna a manugang ti ari. Impaasawa ngarud ni Saul ti anakna a ni Mical kenni David.
and David rises and goes, he and his men, and strikes two hundred men among the Philistines, and David brings in their foreskins, and they set them before the king, to be son-in-law of the king; and Saul gives his daughter Michal to him for a wife.
28 Ket nakita ken naammoan ni Saul nga adda ni Yahweh kenni David. Inayat isuna ni Mical nga anak ni Saul.
And Saul sees and knows that YHWH [is] with David, and Michal daughter of Saul has loved him,
29 Kimmarkaro ti buteng ni Saul kenni David. Nagtultuloy a kabusor ni Saul ni David.
and Saul adds to be afraid of the presence of David still; and Saul is an enemy of David [for] all the days.
30 Ket rimmuar ti armada dagiti Filisteo para iti gubat, ket kas iti kasansan nga iruruarda, ad-adda a ni David ti agbalballigi ngem kadagiti amin nga adipen ni Saul, isu nga ad-adda a napadayawan ti naganna.
And the princes of the Philistines come out, and it comes to pass from the time of their coming out, David has acted more wisely than any of the servants of Saul, and his name is very precious.
