< Rut 4 >
1 Ya mere, Boaz pụrụ gaa nʼọnụ ụzọ ama obodo ahụ, nọdụ ala nʼebe ahụ. Ọ dịghị anya onye mgbapụta ahụ dị nso nke Boaz kwuru okwu banyere ya si nʼebe ahụ na-agafe. Boaz kpọrọ ya sị, “Enyi m bịa nọdụ ala.” Ọ bịara nọdụ ala.
Boaz went to the town gate, and sat down there. The family redeemer that Boaz had mentioned happened to pass by, so Boaz said to him, “Come over here, friend, and sit down.” The man came over and sat down.
2 Boaz kpọrọ mmadụ iri, ndị bụ ndị okenye obodo ahụ, gwa ha, “Nọdụnụ ala nʼebe a.” Ha mere otu ahụ.
Then Boaz selected ten of the town elders and asked them to sit there with them.
3 Mgbe ahụ, ọ gwara nwoke onye mgbapụta ahụ dị nso sị, “Naomi, onye si nʼala ndị Moab lọta, na-achọ ire ala nwanna anyị nwoke Elimelek.
Boaz said to the family redeemer, “Naomi who has returned from the country of Moab is selling the piece of land that belonged to Elimelech, our relative.
4 Ahụrụ m na o kwesiri ka m buru ụzọ gwa gị ka ị zụọ ya nʼihu ndị a nọ ọdụ nʼebe a, na nʼihu ndị okenye obodo anyị. Ọ bụrụ na ị ga-agbara ya, gwa m, ọ bụrụkwanụ na ị gaghị agbara ya, gwa m, ka m mara ihe m ga-eme. Nʼihi na ọ bụ gị ka ọ dịrị ịgbapụta ya. Mụ onwe m na-esote gị.” Ọ zara sị, “Aga m agbapụta ya.”
I decided I should tell you in case you want to buy it here in the presence of these elders of the people. If you want to redeem it, then go ahead. But it you don't, then tell me so I'll know, because you are first in line to redeem it, and I'm next.” “I want to redeem it,” said the family redeemer.
5 Mgbe ahụ, Boaz sịrị, “Nʼụbọchị ị ga-azụrụ ala ahụ site nʼaka Naomi ka ị ga-enwetakwa Rut onye Moab bụ nwunye onye ahụ nwụrụ anwụ, ime ka aha onye ahụ nwụrụ anwụ na ihe nketa ya na-adịgide.”
“When you buy the land from Naomi you also acquire Ruth the Moabite, Mahlon's widow, so you can marry her and have children with her to ensure the man's line continues,” Boaz explained.
6 Na nke a, onye nchekwa mgbapụta ahụ sịrị, “Apụghị m ịgbapụta ya nʼihi na e nwere m ike itinye ihe nketa m na nsogbu. Gị onwe gị gbapụta ya. Nke a agaghị ekwe m omume.”
“Well, I can't do it then,” the family redeemer replied. “If I were to redeem it, that could jeopardize what I already own. You redeem it for yourself, because I can't.”
(Now during those times it was the custom in Israel to confirm the action of family redeemer, property transfer, or any similar legal matter by removing a sandal and handing it over. This was the way of validating a transaction in Israel.)
8 Nʼihi ya, mgbe nwoke ahụ gwara Boaz sị ya, “Zụrụ ala ahụ nʼonwe gị,” o yipụtara akpụkpọụkwụ ya.
So the family redeemer took off his sandal and told Boaz, “You buy it.”
9 Mgbe ahụ, Boaz kwupụtara na ntị ndị okenye ndị ahụ na ndị mmadụ nọ nʼebe ahụ sị ha, “Unu bụ ndị akaebe na esitela m nʼaka Naomi zụrụ ala niile Elimelek, na Kilịọn na Mahlọn nwere.
Then Boaz said to the elders and all the people present, “You are witnesses that today I have bought from Naomi all that belonged to Elimelech, Mahlon, and Chilion.
10 Azụrụkwala m Rut onye Moab, nwunye Mahlọn ka ọ bụrụ nwunye m, ime ka aha onye nwụrụ anwụ na ihe nketa ya na-adịgide, ka aha ha hapụ ifu nʼetiti ndị ikwu ya maọbụ site nʼobodo ebe amụrụ ya. Taa unu niile bụ ndị akaebe m.”
I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite, Mahlon's widow, as my wife. By having children who may inherit his property his name will be kept alive in his family and in his home town. You are witnesses of this today.”
The elders and all the people present at the town gate said, “Yes, we are witnesses. May the Lord make the woman who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah who between them gave birth to the people of Israel. May you become prosperous in Ephrathah, and famous in Bethlehem.
12 Site nʼụmụ Onyenwe anyị ga-enye gị site na nwanyị a, ka ezinaụlọ gị dịrị ka nke Perez onye Tama mụụrụ Juda.”
May your descendants the Lord gives you through this young woman become like the descendants of Perez, the son Tamar bore to Judah.”
13 Boaz kpọọrọ Rut ka ọ bụrụ nwunye ya. Mgbe ya na Rut dinakọrọ, Onyenwe anyị nyeere ya aka ịtụrụ ime. Ọ mụkwara nwa nwoke.
Boaz took Ruth home, and she became his wife. He slept with her, and the Lord arranged for her to become pregnant, and she gave birth to a son.
14 Mgbe ahụ, ndị inyom obodo ahụ bịakwutere Naomi sị ya, “Onye a gọziri agọzi ka Onyenwe anyị bụ, onye na-agbawaghị gị aka onye agbụrụ mgbapụta dị nso. Ka aha ya bụrụ ihe ga-ada ụda nʼala Izrel niile.
The women of the town came to Naomi and said, “Praise the Lord, for today he didn't leave you without a family redeemer by giving you this grandson—may he become famous throughout Israel.
15 Ya wetakwara gị ntute na ndụ gị ma bụrụkwa onye ga-azụ gị nʼisi awọ gị. Nʼihi na nwunye nwa gị, onye hụrụ gị nʼanya, onye baara gị uru karịa ndị ikom asaa, amụọrala gị nwa nwoke.”
He will give you a new lease of life and provide for you in your old age, for your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better than seven sons to you, has given birth to him.”
16 Naomi kuuru nwantakịrị ahụ, jikụọ ya nʼapata ya, lekọtaa ya.
Naomi picked up the child and hugged him. She looked after him like her own son.
17 Ndị inyom ndị agbataobi ya sịrị, “Ugbu a, nʼikpeazụ, Naomi enwetala nwa nwoke ọzọ!” Ha gụrụ ya Obed. Ọ bụkwa onye ahụ bụ nna Jesi, onye bụ nna Devid.
