1 Ọ ka mma ịbụ ogbenye onye kwesiri ntụkwasị obi karịa ịbụ onye nzuzu na-ekwu okwu ụgha mgbe niile.
2 Arịrịọ nke na-enweghị ihe ọmụma adịghị mma otu a kwa onye ụkwụ ya na-eme ngwa na-ejehie ụzọ.
3 Enweghị uche nke mmadụ na-eduba ha nʼọghọm, ma obi ha na-ewe iwe dị ukwuu megide Onyenwe anyị.
The folly of a man spoils his ways: and he blames God in his heart.
4 Onye nwere ego na-enwe ọtụtụ ndị enyi, ma ọ na-ara ahụ ka ndị enyi onye ogbenye nọgide.
Wealth acquires many friends; but the poor is deserted even of the friend he has.
5 Onye na-agba ama ụgha ga-ata ahụhụ, ụzọ onye na-ekupụ ụgha dịka ume ka a ga-achọpụtakwa.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that accuses unjustly shall not escape.
6 Ọtụtụ mmadụ na-achọ ihuọma nʼebe onye na-achị achị nọ, otu a kwa, mmadụ niile na-agbalị ịbụ enyi onye na-agbasa aka ya na-enye onyinye.
Many court the favour of kings; but every bad man becomes a reproach to [another] man.
7 Ebe ọ bụ na ụmụnne onye ogbenye na-akpọ ya asị, gịnịkwa ka ndị enyi ya ga-eme? Mgbalị ya niile ịrịọ ha arịrịọ ezughị ime ka ha nọgide.
Every one who hates [his] poor brother shall also be far from friendship. Good understanding will draw near to them that know it, and a sensible man will find it. He that does much harm perfects mischief; and he that used provoking words shall not escape.
8 Onye na-enweta amamihe hụrụ ndụ nʼanya, onye na-edebekwa nghọta na-enweta ọganihu.
He that procures wisdom loves himself; and he that keeps wisdom shall find good.
9 Onyeama ụgha aghaghị ịta ahụhụ, onye ọbụla na-ekwupụ okwu ụgha dịka mmiri ga-ala nʼiyi.
A false witness shall not be unpunished; and whoever shall kindle mischief shall perish by it.
10 Onye nzuzu ekwesighị ibi dịka ọgaranya; ohu ekwesịkwaghị ịchị ụmụ eze.
Delight does not suit a fool, nor [is it seemly] if a servant should begin to rule with haughtiness.
11 Ezi uche mmadụ nwere na-amụpụta ndidi; ọ bụkwa nkwanye ugwu nye onye nʼadịghị agụ mkparị a na-akparị ya.
A merciful man is longsuffering; and his triumph overtakes transgressors.
12 Iwe eze dị ka mbigbọ nke ọdụm. Ma obi ụtọ ya dị ka igirigi nʼelu ahịhịa ndụ.
The threatening of a king is like the roaring of a lion; but as dew on the grass, so is his favour.
13 Nwa nzuzu bụ ịla nʼiyi nke nna, nwunye na-ese okwu dị ka mmiri ọtụtụ na-atụ kpọm, kpọm, mgbe niile nʼelu ụlọ puru epu.
A foolish son is a disgrace to his father: vows [paid out] of the hire of a harlot are not pure.
14 Ụlọ dị iche iche na akụ bụ ihe nketa a na-anata nʼaka ndị nne na nna, ma nwunye nwere uche na nghọta na-esite naanị nʼaka Onyenwe anyị.
Fathers divide house and substance to [their] children: but a wife is suited to a man by the Lord.
15 Umengwụ na-akpata oke ịrahụ ụra, onye ọfọ ogori ka agụụ na-agụ.
Cowardice possesses the effeminate [man]; and the soul of the sluggard shall hunger.
16 Onye na-edebe iwu Chineke na-enweta ndụ, ma onye na-akpọ ya asị na-anwụ.
He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul; but he that despises his ways shall perish.
17 Onye ọbụla na-egosi ndị ogbenye obi ebere na-ebinye Onyenwe anyị ihe, ọ ga-akwụghachi ha nʼihi ihe ọma ha mere.
He that has pity on the poor lends to the Lord; and he will recompense to him according to his gift.
18 Dọọ nwa gị aka na ntị mgbe ọ ka dị na nwantakịrị nʼihi na oge ahụ ka olileanya dị. Ma i meghị otu a, ọ bụ ndụ ya ka ị na-emebi.
Chasten your son, for so he shall be hopeful; and be not exalted in your soul to haughtiness.
19 Onye oke iwe ga-anata nra so ya, nʼihi na ọ bụrụ na ị napụta ya, ị ga-anapụtakwa ya ọzọ.
A malicious man shall be severely punished, and if he commit injury, he shall also lose his life.
20 Gee ntị na ndụmọdụ a na-enye gị, nabata ịdọ aka na ntị. Nʼikpeazụ, ị ga-abụ onye maara ihe.
Hear, son, the instruction of your father, that you may be wise at your latter end.
21 Ọtụtụ atụmatụ dị nʼobi mmadụ; maọbụ uche Onyenwe anyị ga-emezu.
[There are] many thoughts in a man's heart; but the counsel of the Lord abides for ever.
22 Obi ebere mmadụ na-eme ka a na-achọsi ya ike. Ọ ka mma ịbụ ogbenye karịa ịbụ mmadụ nke eziokwu ọbụla na-adịghị nʼọnụ ya.
Mercy is a fruit to a man: and a poor man is better than a rich liar.
23 Ịtụ egwu Onyenwe anyị na-eweta ndụ na ọṅụ, na nchebe site nʼihe mmerụ ahụ.
The fear of the Lord is life to a man: and he shall lodge without fear in places where knowledge is not seen.
24 Onye umengwụ na-amanye aka nʼefere nri, ọ gaghị eweghachi ya ọ bụladị tinye nʼọnụ ya.
He that unjustly hides his hands in his bosom, will not even [bring] them up to his mouth.
25 Tie onye na-akwa emo ihe, onye na-enweghị uche ga-aghọ onye nwere ezi uche, baara onye nwere nghọta mba, ha ga-enweta ihe ọmụma.
When a pestilent character is scourged, a simple man is made wiser: and if you reprove a wise man, he will understand discretion.
26 Ọ bụ nwa ahụ na-eweta ihere ga-ezu nne na nna ya ohi, maọbụ chụpụ ha site nʼụlọ ya.
He that dishonours his father, and drives away his mother, shall be disgraced and shall be exposed to reproach.
27 Nwa m ọ bụrụ na ị hapụ ige ntị na ntụziaka m, ị ga-esi nʼokwu ihe ọmụma kpafuo.
A son who ceases to attend to the instruction of a father will cherish evil designs.
28 Onyeama ụgha na-akwa ikpe ziri ezi emo. Ọnụ nke onye ajọ omume na-eloda ajọ ihe.
He that becomes surety for a foolish child will despise the ordinance: and the mouth of ungodly men shall drink down judgement.
29 Ndị na-akwa emo na ndị nzuzu ga-ata ahụhụ; a ga-etikwa ha ihe.
Scourges are preparing for the intemperate, and punishments likewise for fools.
