1 Ma ọ gwara ha sị, “Nʼezie asị m unu, ụfọdụ nʼime ndị guzo nʼebe a, agaghị edetụ ọnwụ ire tupu ha ahụ alaeze Chineke mgbe ọ ga-abịa nʼike.”
“I tell you,” he added, “that some of those who are standing here will not know death until they have seen the kingdom of God come in power.”
2 Mgbe ụbọchị isii gasịrị, Jisọs kpọọrọ Pita na Jemis na Jọn, duru ha rigoro nʼelu ugwu dị elu. Nʼebe ahụ ka ha nọdụrụ naanị ha. Nʼebe ahụ, a gbanwere ọdịdị ya nʼihu ha.
Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain alone by themselves. There his appearance was transformed before their eyes,
3 Uwe ya na-enwu ọcha karịa ụdị ọcha ọbụla anya hụrụla. Ọ dịkwa ọcha karịa nke onye ọbụla nʼụwa nwere ike ime ka ihe dị ọcha.
and his clothes became whiter than any launderer in the whole world could bleach them.
4 Ha hụrụ Ịlaịja na Mosis ka ha pụtara soro Jisọs na-ekwu okwu.
And Elijah appeared to them, in company with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.
5 Pita gwara Jisọs sị, “Onye ozizi, ọ dị mma ka anyị nọdụ nʼebe a. Ka anyị wuo ụlọ ikwu atọ. Otu ga-abụ nke gị, otu a bụrụ nke Mosis, nke ọzọkwa a bụrụ nke Ịlaịja.”
“Rabbi,” said Peter, interposing, “it is good to be here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
6 (Ọ makwaghị ihe ọ ga-ekwu nʼihi na oke egwu tụrụ ha.)
For he did not know what to say, because they were much afraid.
7 Mgbe ahụ, igwe ojii pụtara kpuchie ha. Olu sitere nʼigwe ojii ahụ daa sị, “Onye a bụ Ọkpara m, onye m hụrụ nʼanya. Geenụ ya ntị.”
Then a cloud came down and enveloped them; and from the cloud there came a voice – “This is my dearly loved son; listen to him.”
8 Na mberede, mgbe ha lere anya gburugburu, ọ dịkwaghị onye ọzọ ha hụrụ, karịa naanị Jisọs.
And suddenly, on looking around, they saw that there was now no one with them but Jesus alone.
9 Mgbe ha si nʼelu ugwu ahụ na-arịdata, Jisọs nyere ha iwu ka ha ghara ịgwa onye ọbụla ihe ha hụrụ, tutu ruo mgbe Nwa nke Mmadụ ga-esi nʼọnwụ bilie.
As they were going down the mountainside, Jesus cautioned them not to relate what they had seen to anyone, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
10 Ha zobere ihe a nʼetiti onwe ha, na-ekwurịtara okwu na-atule ihe isi nʼọnwụ bilie pụtara.
They seized on these words and discussed with one another what this ‘rising from the dead’ meant.
11 Ma ha jụrụ ya sị, “Gịnị mere ndị ozizi iwu jiri sị na Ịlaịja aghaghị ibu ụzọ bịa?”
“How is it,” they asked Jesus, “that our teachers of the Law say that Elijah has to come first?”
12 Ọ gwara ha sị, “Ọ bụ ezie, Ịlaịja ga-ebu ụzọ bịa, na-emekwa ka ihe dị ka ọ dị na mbụ. Ma gịnị mere e jiri dee na Nwa nke Mmadụ ga-ahụ ọtụtụ ahụhụ, bụrụkwa onye a jụrụ ajụ?
“Elijah does indeed come first,” answered Jesus, “and re-establish everything; and does not scripture speak, with regard to the Son of Man, of his undergoing much suffering and being utterly despised?
13 Ka m gwa unu, Ịlaịja abịalarị. Ma ha mesokwara ya mmeso otu ha chọrọ dị ka e dere banyere ya.”
But I tell you that Elijah has come, and people have treated him just as they pleased, as scripture says of him.”
14 Mgbe ha bịarutere nʼebe ndị na-eso ụzọ ya nọ, ha hụrụ oke igwe mmadụ ka ha gbara ha gburugburu, hụkwa ụfọdụ ndị ozizi iwu ka ha na ha na-arụrịta ụka.
When they came to the other disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and some teachers of the Law arguing with them.
15 Ngwangwa, mmadụ ahụ niile hụrụ ya, ụdịdị ya juru ha anya. Ha gbaara ọsọ gaa kelee ya.
But, as soon as they saw Jesus, all the people, in great astonishment, ran up and greeted him.
16 Ọ jụrụ ha sị, “Unu na ha ọ na-arụrịta ụka banyere gịnị?”
“What are you arguing about with them?” Jesus asked.
17 Otu onye nʼime igwe mmadụ ahụ zara ya sị, “Onye ozizi akpọtaara m gị nwa m nwoke, nke mmụọ ọjọọ bi nʼime ya, nke mekwara ka ọ daa ogbi.
“Teacher,” answered a man in the crowd, “I brought my son to see you, as he has a spirit in him that makes him mute;
18 Mgbe ọbụla mmụọ ọjọọ ahụ malitere isogbu ya, ọ na-atụda ya nʼala. Mgbe ahụ, ọ na-agbọ ụfụfụ nʼọnụ ya, na-ata ikikere eze, anụ ahụ ya na-esikwa ike. Arịọrọ m ndị na-eso ụzọ gị ka ha chụpụ mmụọ ọjọọ a, ma ha enweghị ike.”
and, wherever it seizes him, it dashes him down; he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth, and he is pining away. I asked your disciples to drive the spirit out, but they failed.”
19 Ọ zaghachiri ha sị, “Unu ọgbọ na-enweghị okwukwe. Ruo ole mgbe ka mụ na unu ga-anọ? Ruo ole mgbe ka m ga-anagide unu? Kpọtaranụ m ya!”
“Faithless generation!” exclaimed Jesus. “How long must I be with you? How long must I have patience with you? Bring the boy to me.”
20 Ya mere, ha kpọtaara ya nwata ahụ. Mgbe mmụọ ọjọọ ahụ hụrụ ya, ngwangwa, o nugharịrị nwata ahụ nke ukwuu, ọ daa nʼala na-atụrụ onwe ya nʼala, na-agbọkwa ụfụfụ nʼọnụ ya.
They brought him to Jesus; but no sooner did the boy see him than the spirit threw him into convulsions; and he fell on the ground, and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.
21 Jisọs jụrụ nna nwata ahụ sị, “Olee mgbe ihe a bidoro?” Ọ zara sị, “Site na mgbe ọ bụ nwata nta.
“How long has he been like this?” Jesus asked the boy’s father.
22 Ọ na-eme ya ka ọ daba nʼọkụ, maọbụ na mmiri, ka ọ laa ya nʼiyi. Ọ bụrụ na ọ dị ihe i nwere ike ime, biko meere anyị ebere, nyere anyị aka.”
“From his childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire and into water to put an end to his life; but, if you can possibly do anything, take pity on us, and help us!”
23 Jisọs sịrị ya, “‘Ọ bụrụ na i nwere ike’? Ihe niile pụrụ ime nʼebe onye kwere ekwe nọ.”
“Why say ‘possibly’?” Jesus replied. “Everything is possible for one who has faith.”
24 Ngwangwa, nna nwata ahụ tiri mkpu sị, “Ekweere m, biko nyere ekweghị ekwe m aka!”
The boy’s father immediately cried out, “I have faith; help my want of faith!”
25 Mgbe Jisọs hụrụ na igwe mmadụ na-agba ọsọ na-abịa nʼebe ahụ, ọ baara mmụọ ahụ na-adịghị ọcha mba sị, “Gị mmụọ ọjọọ ntị ike na ịda ogbi, ana m enye gị iwu, site nʼime nwata a pụta! Abanyekwala nʼime ya ọzọ!”
But, when Jesus saw that a crowd was quickly collecting, he rebuked the foul spirit, “Deaf and dumb spirit, it is I who command you. Come out from him and never enter him again.”
26 O tiri mkpu nʼoke olu, nugharịa nwata ahụ nke ukwuu ma site nʼime ya pụta. Nwata ahụ tọgbọrọ nʼala dị ka onye nwụrụ anwụ nke mere na ndị niile nọ nʼebe ahụ sịrị, “Ọ nwụọla!”
With a loud cry the spirit threw the boy into repeated convulsions, and then came out from him. The boy looked like a corpse, so that most of them said that he was dead.
27 Ma Jisọs jidere ya nʼaka selite ya elu, mee ka o guzo nʼụkwụ ya. O guzokwara.
But Jesus took his hand, and lifted him; and he stood up.
28 Ma mgbe ọ banyere nʼime ụlọ ndị na-eso ụzọ ya jụrụ ya na nzuzo sị, “Gịnị mere o jiri siere anyị ike ịchụpụ ya?”
When Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
29 Ọ sịrị ha, “Ọ bụ naanị site nʼike ekpere ka a pụrụ ịchụpụ ụdị a.”
“A spirit of this kind,” he said, “can be driven out only by prayer.”
30 Ha siri nʼebe ahụ pụọ gafee Galili. Ọ chọghị ka onye ọbụla mata maka ya,
Leaving that place, Jesus and his disciples went on their way through Galilee; but he did not wish anyone to know it,
31 nʼihi na ọ na-ezi ndị na-eso ụzọ ya ihe. Ọ sịrị ha, “A ga-arara Nwa nke Mmadụ nye nʼaka ụmụ mmadụ, ha ga-egbukwa ya ma ọ ga-ebili nʼọnwụ mgbe mkpụrụ ụbọchị atọ gasịrị.”
for he was instructing his disciples, and telling them – “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of his fellow men, and they will put him to death, but, when he has been put to death, he will rise again after three days.”
32 Ma ha aghọtaghị ihe ọ na-agwa ha. Egwu tụkwara ha ị jụ banyere ya.
But the disciples did not understand his meaning and were afraid to question him.
33 Emesịa, ha bịaruru Kapanọm. Mgbe ọ banyere nʼụlọ, ọ jụrụ ha sị, “Gịnị ka unu na-arụrịta ụka banyere ya nʼokporoụzọ?”
They came to Capernaum. When Jesus had gone into the house, he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?”
34 Ma ha gbara nkịtị, nʼihi na ha rụrịtara ụka nʼokporoụzọ banyere onye dị ukwuu karịa ibe ya.
But they were silent; for on the way they had been arguing with one another which was the greatest.
35 Ọ nọdụrụ ala kpọọ mmadụ iri na abụọ ahụ, sị ha, “Ọ bụrụ na onye ọbụla chọrọ ịbụ onye mbụ, ọ ghaghị ịbụ onye ikpeazụ, bụrụkwa onye na-ejere mmadụ niile ozi.”
Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wishes to be first, he must be last of all, and servant of all.”
36 Mgbe ahụ o kuuru otu nwantakịrị mee ka o guzoro nʼetiti ha. O kuuru nwata ahụ nʼaka ya sị ha,
Then Jesus took a little child, and placed it in the middle of them. Taking it in his arms, he said to them,
37 “Onye ọbụla nabatara otu nʼime ụmụntakịrị ndị a nʼaha m, na-anabata m. Ma onye ọbụla nabatara m, ọ bụghị m ka ọ nabatara, kama ọ na-anabata onye zitere m.”
“Anyone who, for the sake of my name, welcomes even a little child like this is welcoming me, and anyone who welcomes me is welcoming not me, but him who sent me as his messenger.”
38 Jọn sịrị ya, “Onye ozizi, anyị hụrụ otu onye na-achụpụ mmụọ ọjọọ nʼaha gị, ma anyị gbalịrị igbochi ya nʼihi na ọ bụghị otu onye nʼime anyị.”
“Teacher,” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons by using your name, and we tried to prevent him, because he did not follow us.”
39 Ma Jisọs gwara ha sị, “Unu egbochila ya, nʼihi na onye ọbụla ji aha m na-arụ ọrụ ebube agaghị ekwu okwu ọjọọ megide m.
“None of you must prevent the man,” answered Jesus, “for no one will use my name in working a miracle, and yet find it easy to speak evil of me.
40 Nʼihi na onye ọbụla na-adịghị emegide anyị dịnyeere anyị.
He who is not against us is for us.
41 Nʼeziokwu asị m unu, onye ọbụla ga-ekunye unu otu iko mmiri nʼaha m, nʼihi na unu bụ ndị nke Kraịst, ga-anatakwa ụgwọ ọrụ ya.
If anyone gives you a cup of water because you belong to Christ, I tell you, he will assuredly not lose his reward.
42 “Ọ bụrụkwa na onye ọbụla emee ka otu nʼime ndị a dị nta kweere na m jehie, ọ ga-akara onye ahụ mma ma ọ bụrụ na e kenyere nkume igwe nri buru ibu nʼolu ya, tụnye ya nʼime oke osimiri.
“And, if anyone puts temptation in the way of one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be far better for him if he had been thrown into the sea with a great millstone around his neck.
43 Ọ bụrụ na aka gị na-eme ka i jehie, gbupụ ya. Ọ ga-akara gị mma inwe ọrụsị baa na ndụ karịa inwe aka abụọ banye nʼọkụ ala mmụọ, ebe ọkụ ya na-adịghị anyụ anyụ; (Geenna g1067)
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It would be better for you to enter the life maimed, than to have both your hands and go into Gehenna, into the fire that cannot be put out. (Geenna g1067)
44 ebe “‘ikpuru ya na-adịghị anwụ anwụ, ọkụ ya adịghị anyụkwa anyụ.’
45 Ọ bụrụ na ụkwụ gị na-eme ka i jehie, gbupụ ya, tufukwaa ya, nʼihi na ọ ga-akara gị mma ịba na ndụ na ngwụrọ karịa inwe ụkwụ abụọ a tụnye gị nʼọkụ ala mmụọ; (Geenna g1067)
If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It would be better for you to enter the life lame, than to have both your feet and be thrown into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
46 ebe “‘ikpuru ya na-adịghị anwụ anwụ, ọkụ ya adịghị anyụkwa anyụ.’
47 Ọ bụrụ na anya gị na-eme ka i jehie, ghụpụ ya. Ọ ga-akara gị mma na i nwere otu anya baa nʼalaeze Chineke, karịa inwe anya abụọ a tụnye gị nʼọkụ ala mmụọ, (Geenna g1067)
If your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It would be better for you to enter the kingdom of God with only one eye, than to have both eyes and be thrown into Gehenna, (Geenna g1067)
48 ebe “‘ikpuru ya na-adịghị anwụ anwụ, ọkụ ya adịghị anyụkwa anyụ.’
where their worm does not die, and the fire is not put out.
49 A ga-eji ọkụ nụchaa onye ọbụla dị ka nnu.
For it is by fire that everyone will be salted.
50 “Nnu dị mma, ma ọ bụrụ na ọ dịghị atọkwa ụtọ, olee ka ị ga-esi mee ka ọ tọọ ụtọ ọzọ? Ya mere, nweenụ nnu nʼime onwe unu. Unu na ibe unu biri nʼudo.”
Salt is good, but, if the salt should lose its saltiness, what will you use to season it? You must have salt in yourselves, and live at peace with one another.”
