1 Nʼafọ nke iri na ise nke ọchịchị Tiberiọs Siza, mgbe Pọntiọs Pailet bụ onye na-achị Judịa, ebe Herọd bụkwa onye na-achị akụkụ Galili, ma nwanne ya nwoke bụ Filip na-achị akụkụ Iturịa na Trakona, Laisania bụkwa onye na-achị akụkụ Abilin,
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, while Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
2 mgbe ahụ Anas na Kaịfas bụ ndịisi nchụaja, okwu Chineke bịakwutere Jọn nwa Zekaraya nʼime ọzara.
during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.
3 Ọ gara nʼime obodo niile gbara Jọdan gburugburu na-ekwusa banyere baptizim nke nchegharị maka mgbaghara mmehie.
He went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,
4 Dịka e dere ya nʼakwụkwọ Aịzaya onye amụma sị, “Otu onye na-eti mkpu nʼọzara na-asị, ‘Dozienụ ụzọ maka Onyenwe anyị, meenụ ka okporoụzọ ya guzozie.
as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.
5 A ga-ekpoju ndagwurugwu ọbụla, ugwu ọbụla na ugwu nta ọbụla ka a ga-emekwa ka ọ dị ala. Ụzọ gbagọrọ agbagọ ka a ga-eme ka o guzozie nke ọma, meekwa ka ụzọ ọjọọ niile dị larịị.
Every valley shall be filled in, and every mountain and hill made low. The crooked ways shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth.
6 Mmadụ niile ga-ahụkwa nzọpụta Chineke.’”
And all humanity will see God’s salvation.’”
7 Jọn sịrị igwe mmadụ ndị na-apụta ka o mee ha baptizim sị, “Unu ụmụ ajụala! Onye dọrọ unu aka na ntị sị unu gbanarị ọnụma nke na-abịa?
Then John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
8 Mịanụ mkpụrụ na-egosipụta nchegharị unu. Unu amalitekwala na-asị onwe unu, ‘Anyị nwere Ebraham dịka nna.’ Nʼihi na agwa m unu na Chineke pụrụ isite na nkume ndị a mepụtara Ebraham ụmụ.
Produce fruit, then, in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
9 Ọ bụladị ugbu a, atụkwasịla anyụike na mgbọrọgwụ osisi, osisi ọbụla nke na-adịghị amị ezi mkpụrụ ka a ga-egbutu tụba ya nʼime ọkụ.”
The axe lies ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”
10 Ma igwe mmadụ ahụ jụrụ ya sị, “Gịnị ka anyị kwesiri ime?”
The crowds asked him, “What then should we do?”
11 Ọ zara ha sị, “Onye ọbụla nwere uwe abụọ, ya nye onye ọ na-adịghị nke o nwere otu. Onye nwere nri ya meekwa otu ahụ.”
John replied, “Whoever has two tunics should share with him who has none, and whoever has food should do the same.”
12 Ọ bụladị ndị ọna ụtụ bịakwara ka e mee ha baptizim. Ha sịrị ya, “Onye ozizi, gịnị ka anyị kwesiri ime?”
Even tax collectors came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?”
13 Ọ sịrị ha, “Unu anatala karịa otu unu kwesiri ịnata.”
“Collect no more than you are authorized,” he answered.
14 Ndị agha bịakwara jụọ ya sị, “Gịnịkwa ka anyị kwesiri ime?” Ọ sịrị ha, “Unu ejikwala ike apụnara ndị mmadụ ego ha; unu ebokwala ndị mmadụ ebubo ụgha, ka afọ ju unu nʼụgwọ a na-akwụ unu.”
Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” “Do not take money by force or false accusation,” he said. “Be content with your wages.”
15 Ndị mmadụ ji olileanya na-eche na-atulekwa nʼobi ha ma Jọn ọ bụ Kraịst ahụ.
The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John could be the Christ.
16 Ma Jọn zara sị ha, “Eji m mmiri na-eme unu baptizim, ma otu onye dị ike karịa m ga-abịa, onye m na-erughị ịtọpụ eriri akpụkpọụkwụ ya. Ọ ga-eji Mmụọ Nsọ na ọkụ mee unu baptizim.
John answered all of them: “I baptize you with water, but One more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
17 Ihe ịfụcha ọka ya dị nʼaka ya, iji zachaa ebe ịzọcha ọka ya nke ọma, ka e kponye ezi mkpụrụ ọka wiiti nʼime ọba, ma kpoba igbugbo ọka nʼime ọkụ nke a na-apụghị imenyụ emenyụ.”
His winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
18 O ji ọtụtụ okwu ọzọ dị iche iche dụọ ha ọdụ ma kwusaakwara ha oziọma.
With these and many other exhortations, John proclaimed the good news to the people.
19 Ma Eze Herọd, onye ọ tara ụta maka Herodịas nwunye nwanne ya nwoke, nakwa maka ihe ọjọọ dị iche iche ndị o mere,
But when he rebuked Herod the tetrarch regarding his brother’s wife Herodias and all the evils he had done,
20 tụkwasịkwara ihe nʼelu ihe ndị a niile, site na ịtụnye Jọn nʼụlọ mkpọrọ.
Herod added this to them all: He locked John up in prison.
21 Mgbe e mechara ndị niile baptizim, ma mechakwa Jisọs baptizim, mgbe ọ na-ekpe ekpere, eluigwe meghere.
When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven was opened,
22 Mmụọ Nsọ sikwa nʼelu rịdata dị ka nduru, bekwasị ya, mgbe ahụ, otu olu sitere nʼeluigwe daa sị, “Ị bụ Ọkpara m, onye m hụrụ nʼanya, ihe gị dị m ezi mma.”
and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in a bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”

Jesus Himself was about thirty years old when He began His ministry. He was regarded as the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,

the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,
25 nwa Matatiyas, nwa Emọs, nwa Nehum, nwa Esili, nwa Nagayị;
the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,
26 nwa Maat, nwa Matatiyas, nwa Semein, nwa Josek, nwa Joda;
the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech, the son of Joda,
27 nwa Joanan, nwa Resa, nwa Zerubabel, nwa Shealtiel, nwa Neri;
the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri,
28 nwa Meliki, nwa Adi, nwa Kosam, nwa Elmadam, nwa Er,
the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er,
29 nwa Joshua, nwa Elieza, nwa Jorim, nwa Matat, nwa Livayị;
the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi,
30 nwa Simiọn, nwa Juda, nwa Josef, nwa Jonam, nwa Eliakịm;
the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,
31 nwa Melea, nwa Mena, nwa Matata, nwa Netan, nwa Devid;
the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,
32 nwa Jesi, nwa Obed, nwa Boaz, nwa Salmọn, nwa Nashọn;
the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Sala, the son of Nahshon,
33 nwa Aminadab, nwa Ram, nwa Hezrọn, nwa Perez, nwa Juda;
the son of Amminadab, the son of Admin, the son of Arni, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah,
34 nwa Jekọb, nwa Aịzik, nwa Ebraham, nwa Tera, nwa Nahọ;
the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,
35 nwa Serug, nwa Reu, nwa Peleg, nwa Eba, nwa Shela;
the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah,
36 nwa Kenan, nwa Aafaksad, nwa Shem, nwa Noa, nwa Lamek;
the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,
37 nwa Metusela, nwa Enọk, nwa Jared, nwa Mahalalel, nwa Kenan;
the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan,
38 nwa Enọsh, nwa Set, nwa Adam, nwa Chineke.
the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
