< Joshua 6 >
Now Jericho was closed as well as fortified, out of fear of the sons of Israel, and no one dared to depart or to enter.
And the Lord said to Joshua: “Behold, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and all the strong men.
3 Gị na ndị agha gị zọọnụ ije gburugburu obodo a. Unu ga-ejegharị gburugburu mgbidi obodo a otu ugbo nʼụbọchị. Unu ga-esi otu a jegharịa ụbọchị isii.
Have all the warriors circle the city once each day; you shall do so for six days.
4 Ndị nchụaja asaa, ndị ga-eji opi mpi ebule asaa ga-ebu ụzọ gawa nʼihu. Ndị nchụaja ndị ọzọ ga-ebu igbe ọgbụgba ndụ. Nʼụbọchị nke asaa, unu ga-agba obodo ahụ gburugburu ugboro asaa. Mgbe unu na-eme nke a, ndị nchụaja asaa ahụ ga na-afụ opi mpi ebule ha.
Then, on the seventh day, the priests shall take the seven trumpets, which are used on the jubilee, and they shall precede the ark of the covenant. And you shall circle the city seven times, and the priests shall sound the trumpets.
5 Emesịa, ndị nchụaja ga-afụsi opi ahụ ike otu ugbo ọzọ, ha ga-afụ ya ka ọ daa ụda nke ukwu. Mgbe mmadụ niile nụrụ ụda opi a, ha niile ga-eti mkpu nke ga-ada ezi ụda. Nke a ga-eme ka mgbidi obodo ahụ daa. Mgbe ahụ, onye agha ọbụla ga-esite nʼebe ọbụla ọ nọ banye nʼime obodo ahụ.”
And when the voice of the trumpet sounds longer and with interruptions, and it increases in your ears, then all the people shall cry out together with a very great shout, and the walls of the city shall fall to the foundation, and they shall enter it, each from a place opposite where they are standing.”
6 Ya mere, Joshua nwa Nun kpọrọ ndị nchụaja sị ha, “Burunu igbe ọgbụgba ndụ Onyenwe anyị ahụ, ka ndị nchụaja asaa nʼime unu werekwa opi mpi ebule buru ụzọ na-aga nʼihu ya.”
Then Joshua, the son of Nun, called the priests, and he said to them, “Take the ark of the covenant, and let seven other priests take the seven trumpets of the jubilee, and advance before the ark of the Lord.”
7 Mgbe ahụ Joshua nyere ndị Izrel iwu sị ha, “Zọlịenụ ije! Gbaanụ obodo a gburugburu, ka ndị agha na-aga nʼihu igbe ọgbụgba ndụ Onyenwe anyị.”
He also said to the people, “Go, and circle the city, armed, preceding the ark of the Lord.”
8 Mgbe Joshua gwachara ndị Izrel okwu, ndị nchụaja asaa ahụ bu opi ike nʼaka ha, nʼihu Onyenwe anyị, gafere nʼihu na-afụ opi ike ha. Ndị bu igbe ọgbụgba ndụ Onyenwe anyị sochiri ha azụ.
And when Joshua had finished his words, and the seven priests sounded the seven trumpets before the ark of the covenant of the Lord,
9 Ndị agha na-aga nʼihu ndị nchụaja bụ ndị na-afụ opi ike, ebe ndị agha ndị ọzọ na-esote igbe ọgbụgba ndụ nʼazụ. Nʼoge a niile ha na-azọ ije, ndị na-afụ opi ike gara nʼihu na-eme nke a.
and all the armed soldiers went ahead, the remainder of the common people followed the ark, and the sound of the trumpets grew louder everywhere.
10 Ma Joshua nyere ndị Izrel iwu sị ha, “Unu emela mkpọtụ agha ọbụla, maọbụ kwee ka anụ olu unu, maọbụ kwuo okwu ọbụla, tutu ruo ụbọchị m ga-asị unu tie mkpu. Mgbe m nyere unu iwu a, tienụ ezi mkpu.”
But Joshua had instructed the people, saying, “You shall not cry out, nor shall your voice be heard, and no word at all shall proceed from your mouth, until the day arrives on which I will say to you, ‘Cry out, and shout.’”
11 Ya mere, e buuru igbe ọgbụgba ndụ Onyenwe anyị ahụ jegharịa obodo ahụ gburugburu otu ugboro nʼụbọchị ahụ. Mgbe ha mesịrị nke a, onye ọbụla laghachiri nʼebe ụlọ ikwu ya dị rahụ ụra abalị.
Thus, the ark of the Lord circled the city once each day, and returning to the camp, it remained there.
12 Joshua biliri nʼisi ụtụtụ echi ya, ndị nchụaja bulikwara igbe ọgbụgba ndụ Onyenwe anyị.
And so, with Joshua, arising in the night, the priests took the ark of the Lord,
13 Ndị nchụaja asaa ahụ bu opi ike asaa ndị ahụ, na-aga nʼihu igbe ọgbụgba ndụ Onyenwe anyị, na-afụ opi ike ha na-esepụghị aka. Ndị agha nọ nʼihu ha, ebe ndị nche na-eso ndị bu igbe ọgbụgba ndụ Onyenwe anyị nʼazụ, nʼoge niile a a na-afụ opi ike ndị a na-esepụghị aka.
and seven of them took the seven trumpets, which are used in the jubilee, and they preceded the ark of the Lord, walking and sounding the trumpets. And the armed men went before them, and the remainder of the common people followed the ark, and they were blaring the trumpets.
14 Nʼụbọchị nke abụọ, ha gbara obodo ahụ gburugburu otu ugboro, laghachikwa nʼụlọ ikwu ha. Otu a ka ha mere ruo nʼụbọchị nke isii.
And they circled the city on the second day, once, and they returned to the camp. They did so for six days.
15 Ma nʼisi ụtụtụ ụbọchị nke asaa, ha bilitere mgbe chi na-abọbeghị, gbaa obodo ahụ gburugburu ugboro asaa dịka ha na-eme. Ma ọ dị iche nʼụbọchị ahụ, bụ naanị na ha gbara obodo ahụ gburugburu ugboro asaa.
Then, on the seventh day, rising at first light, they circled the city, just as had been ordered, seven times.
16 O ruo, nʼoge njegharị nke ugboro asaa ahụ, mgbe ndị nchụaja asaa ndị a fụsiri opi ike asaa ndị ahụ ike karịa, ka Joshua gwara ndị Izrel sị ha, “Tienụ mkpu! Nʼihi na Onyenwe anyị enyela unu obodo a!
And at the seventh circling, when the priests sounded the trumpets, Joshua said to all of Israel: “Shout! For the Lord has delivered the city to you.
And let this city be anathema, with all the things that are within it, before the Lord. May only Rahab the harlot live, with all who are with her in the house. For she hid the messengers whom we sent.
18 Ma unu onwe unu, wezuganụ onwe unu pụọ nʼebe ihe ndị a kwadoro mbibi dị, ka unu gharakwa iweta ịla nʼiyi nye onwe unu site na iwere ihe ọbụla nʼime ha. Ma ọ bụghị otu a, unu ga-eme ka mbibi dakwasị ụlọ ikwu ụmụ Izrel niile.
But you must be careful that you do not touch any of those things, as you have been instructed, for then you would be guilty of transgression, and all the camp of Israel would be under sin and would be troubled.
But whatever gold and silver there will be, and vessels of brass or of iron, let these be consecrated to the Lord and be stored in his treasuries.”
20 Mgbe ụda opi ike ahụ dasiri ike, ndị agha tiri mkpu, na ụda opi ike ahụ. Mgbe ndị ikom tiri oke mkpu, mgbidi ahụ dara dapịasịa, nke mere na onye ọbụla chere ihu banye nʼime obodo ahụ, lụgbuo obodo ahụ.
Therefore, with all the people shouting, and the trumpets blaring, after the voice and the sound increased in the ears of the multitude, the walls promptly fell to ruin. And each one climbed up at the place which was opposite where he was. And they seized the city.
And they put to death all who were in it, from man even to woman, from infant even to elder. Likewise, the oxen and sheep and donkeys, they struck down with the edge of the sword.
But Joshua said to the two men who had been sent to explore, “Enter the house of the harlot woman, and bring her out, and all the things that are hers, just as you assured her by oath.”
And the youths entered, and they led out Rahab, and her parents, also her brothers, and all her goods and kindred, and they caused them to dwell outside the camp.
Then they set fire to the city and all the things that were within it, except the gold and silver, and the vessels of brass or of iron, which they consecrated into the treasury of the Lord.
25 Joshua mere ka Rehab, nwanyị akwụna ahụ, na ndị ezinaụlọ ya niile dịrị ndụ. Nʼihi na Rehab zoro ndị ikom abụọ Joshua zigara, mee ka ha dị ndụ, bụ ndị gara inyochapụta obodo Jeriko. Ya mere, o binyere ndị Izrel ruo taa.
Yet truly, Joshua caused Rahab the harlot, and her father’s household, and all she had, to survive. And they lived in the midst of Israel, even to the present day. For she hid the messengers, whom he had sent to explore Jericho. At that time, Joshua made an invocation, saying:
26 Mgbe ahụ, Joshua gbara obodo Jeriko iyi sị, “Ọbụbụ ọnụ ka a na-abụ nwoke ọbụla nʼihu Onyenwe anyị nke ga-ebili wuokwa obodo Jeriko ọzọ. “Ndụ ọkpara ya ka ọ ga-eji tọọ ntọala ya niile, ndụ nwa ya nke nta, ka ọ ga-eji guzobe ọnụ ụzọ ama ya niile ọtọ.”
“Cursed before the Lord is the man who will raise up and rebuild the city of Jericho! With his firstborn, may he lay its foundation, and with the last of his children, may he set up its gates.”
27 Ya mere, Onyenwe anyị nọnyeere Joshua. Akụkọ a kọrọ banyere ya gbasara nke ukwuu nʼala ahụ niile.
And so the Lord was with Joshua, and his name was made known throughout all the land.
