< Jona 2 >
1 Mgbe ahụ, Jona sitere nʼafọ azụ ahụ kpeere Onyenwe anyị Chineke ekpere.
Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish.
2 Ọ sịrị, “Esitere m nʼahụhụ m kpọkuo Onyenwe anyị, ọ zakwara m. Nʼafọ ala mmụọ ka m si tikuo gị, ị nụkwara olu akwa m. (Sheol )
He began, “In my agony I cried out to the Lord and he answered me; from the depths of Sheol I pleaded for help and you answered me. (Sheol )
3 Ị tụnyere m nʼime mmiri dị omimi, nʼetiti oke osimiri. Osimiri dịkwa m gburugburu, ebili mmiri gị na mmali mmiri gị gabigakwara m nʼisi.
You threw me into the deep, all the way down to the bottom of the sea. Water flooded all around me; your crashing waves rolled over me.
4 Mgbe ahụ, asịrị m, ‘E sitela nʼihu gị chụpụ m; ma otu ọ dị, aga m elegidekwa anya m ọzọ nʼebe ụlọnsọ ukwu gị dị.’
I said to myself, ‘The Lord has banished me from his sight. Will I ever see your holy Temple again?’
5 Mmiri gbara m gburugburu, ruo nʼolu m, ogbu mmiri na-erikpu m. Achara mmiri kekụkwara m nʼisi.
The water swirled over me so I couldn't breathe; the deep sucked me down; seaweed wrapped itself around my head.
I sank down to the base of the mountains; the earth barred me in forever. But you, my Lord, my God, brought me back up from the abyss.
7 “Mgbe mmụọ m na-ada mba nʼike nʼike, e chetara m gị Onyenwe anyị, ma ekpere m bịakwutere gị, nʼime ụlọnsọ ukwu gị dị nsọ.
As my life ebbed away, I remembered the Lord; my prayer came to you in your holy Temple.
8 “Ndị na-arapara nʼarụsị dị iche iche na-enweghị uru ha bara, na-agbakụta ebere Chineke azụ.
Those who worship worthless idols give up their trust in God's goodness.
9 Ma ọ bụ olu abụ ekele ka mụ onwe m ga-eji chụọrọ gị aja. Aga m akwụghachi nkwa niile m kwere. Nʼihi na ‘Nzọpụta bụ nke Onyenwe anyị.’”
But I will offer you sacrifices, shouting out my thanks. I will keep my promises to you, for salvation comes from the Lord.”
10 Mgbe ahụ, Onyenwe anyị nyere azụ ahụ iwu, nke mere ka ọ gbọpụta Jona nʼala akọrọ.
Then the Lord told the fish to spit out Jonah onto the shore.
