1 Ugbu a, Jisọs matara na ndị Farisii anụla na ọ na-eme ka ọtụtụ mmadụ bụrụ ndị na-eso ụzọ ya na-emekwa baptizim karịa Jọn.
Now as soon as the Master was aware that the Pharisees had heard it said, "Jesus is gaining and baptizing more disciples than John"--
2 Ma ọ bụkwaghị Jisọs na onwe ya na-eme baptizim kama ọ bụ ndị na-eso ụzọ ya mere ha baptizim.
though Jesus Himself did not baptize them, but His disciples did--
3 Ọ hapụrụ Judịa laghachi azụ na Galili.
He left Judaea and returned to Galilee.
4 Ma ọ ga-esite nʼetiti Sameria gafee.
His road lay through Samaria,
5 Ya mere, ọ batara nʼotu obodo nta dị na Sameria a na-akpọ Saika, nʼakụkụ ala ahụ Jekọb nyere Josef nwa ya nwoke.
and so He came to Sychar, a town in Samaria near the piece of land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Olulu mmiri Jekọb dị nʼebe ahụ, ma ebe ọ bụ na ike gwụrụ Jisọs nʼije ya, ọ nọdụrụ ala nʼakụkụ olulu mmiri ahụ. Ọ bụ ihe dị ka oge ehihie.
Jacob's Well was there: and accordingly Jesus, tired out with His journey, sat down by the well to rest. It was about six o'clock in the evening.
7 Otu nwanyị onye Sameria bịara ịdọrọ mmiri, Jisọs sịrị ya, “Nyetụ m mmiri ka m ṅụọ.”
Presently there came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus asked her to give Him some water;
8 (Ndị na-eso ụzọ ya abaala nʼime obodo ịga zụta nri.)
for His disciples were gone to the town to buy provisions.
9 Nwanyị ahụ sịrị ya, “Olee otu gị bụ onye Juu si arịọ m bụ nwanyị Sameria mmiri ka ị ṅụọ?” (Nʼihi na ndị Juu na ndị Sameria anaghị emekọrịta ihe ọbụla.)
"How is it," replied the woman, "that a Jew like you asks me, who am a woman and a Samaritan, for water?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
10 Jisọs zara sị, “Ọ bụrụ na ị matara onyinye Chineke, na onye ahụ na-arịọ gị mmiri, ị gaara arịọ ya, ọ gakwara enye gị mmiri nke ndụ.”
"If you had known God's free gift," replied Jesus, "and who it is that said to you, 'Give me some water,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."
11 Nwanyị ahụ sịrị ya, “Nna anyị ukwu, o nweghị ihe ọbụla i ji ị ga-eji dọrọ mmiri, olulu a dịkwa omimi. Oleekwanụ ebe ị ga-eweta mmiri ndụ a.
"Sir," she said, "you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; so where can you get the living water from?
12 Ọ bụ na ị ka nna nna anyị Jekọb ukwuu, onye gwuuru anyị olulu mmiri a? Ya onwe ya na ụmụ ya na igwe ehi na atụrụ ya ṅụkwara mmiri sitere na ya?”
Are you greater than our forefather Jacob, who gave us the well, and himself drank from it, as did also his sons and his cattle?"
13 Jisọs zara sị, “Onye ọbụla ṅụrụ mmiri a, akpịrị ga-akpọ ya nkụ ọzọ.
"Every one," replied Jesus, "who drinks any of this water will be thirsty again;
15 Mgbe ahụ nwanyị ahụ sịrị ya, “Onyenwe anyị nye m mmiri a, ka akpịrị ghara ịkpọ m nkụ ọzọ, ka m gharakwa ịdị na-abịa ebe a ịdọrọ mmiri.”
"Sir," said the woman, "give me that water, that I may never be thirsty, nor continually come all the way here to draw from the well."
16 Ọ gwara ya sị, “Gaa kpọta di gị ma lọghachi.”
"Go and call your husband," said Jesus; "and come back."
17 Nwanyị ahụ zaghachiri ya sị, “Enweghị m dị.” Jisọs sịrị ya, “I kwuru eziokwu mgbe ị sịrị na i nweghị di.
"I have no husband," she replied. "You rightly say that you have no husband," said Jesus;
18 I nweela di ise, ma nwoke gị na ya bi ugbu a abụghị di gị. Ihe kwuru bụ nnọọ eziokwu.”
"for you have had five husbands, and the man you have at present is not your husband. You have spoken the truth in saying that."
19 Nwanyị ahụ sịrị ya “Nna anyị ukwu, ahụrụ m na ị bụ onye amụma.
"Sir," replied the woman, "I see that you are a Prophet.
20 Nna nna anyị ha fere ofufe nʼugwu a, ma unu na-ekwu nʼebe ndị mmadụ ga-eferịrị ofufe bụ naanị na Jerusalem.”
Our forefathers worshipped on this mountain, but you Jews say that the place where people must worship is in Jerusalem."
21 Jisọs sịrị ya, “Nwanyị kwere okwu m, oge na-abịa mgbe ị na-agaghị akpọ isiala nye Nna, maọbụ nʼugwu a ma ọ bụkwanụ na Jerusalem.
"Believe me," said Jesus, "the time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
22 Unu na-efe ihe unu na-amaghị ma anyị na-efe ihe anyị matara, nʼihi na nzọpụta sitere nʼaka ndị Juu.
You worship One of whom you know nothing. We worship One whom we know; for salvation comes from the Jews.
23 Ma oge na-abịa, ugbu a ọ bịala, mgbe ndị na-efe Nna ahụ nʼeziokwu ga-efe ya nʼime mmụọ na nʼeziokwu. Nʼihi na ọ bụ ndị dị otu a ka Nna chọrọ ka ha na-efe ya.
But a time is coming--nay, has already come--when the true worshippers will worship the Father with true spiritual worship; for indeed the Father desires such worshippers.
24 Chineke bụ mmụọ ndị niile na-efe ya ga-eferịrị ya nʼime mmụọ na eziokwu.”
God is Spirit; and those who worship Him must bring Him true spiritual worship."
25 Nwanyị ahụ sịrị ya, “Amaara m na Mezaya” (onye a na-akpọ Kraịst) “na-abịa. Mgbe ọ bịara, ọ ga-akọwaziri anyị ihe niile.”
"I know," replied the woman, "that Messiah is coming--'the Christ,' as He is called. When He has come, He will tell us everything."
26 Jisọs sịrị ya, “Mụ, onye na-agwa gị okwu, abụ m ya.”
"I am He," said Jesus--"I who am now talking to you."
27 Nʼoge ahụ ndị na-eso ụzọ ya lọghachitara. Ọ gbagwojukwara ha anya nke ukwuu ịhụ na ya na nwanyị na-ekwurịta okwu. Ma o nweghị onye nʼime ha jụrụ nwanyị ahụ sị, “Gịnị ka ị chọrọ?” ma ọ bụkwanụ, “Gịnị kpatara gị na ya ji na-ekwurịta okwu?”
Just then His disciples came, and were surprised to find Him talking with a woman. Yet not one of them asked Him, "What is your wish?" or "Why are you talking with her?"
28 Mgbe ahụ, nwanyị ahụ hapụrụ ite mmiri ya laghachi nʼime obodo ga gwa ndị mmadụ,
The woman however, leaving her pitcher, went away to the town, and called the people.
29 “Bịanụ lee otu nwoke onye gwara m ihe niile m merela. Ọ ga-abụ na ọ bụ ya bụ Kraịst ahụ?”
"Come," she said, "and see a man who has told me everything I have ever done. Can this be the Christ, do you think?"
30 Ha sitere nʼobodo ahụ gbapụtasịa soro ụzọ ahụ, ka ha gakwuru ya.
They left the town and set out to go to Him.
31 Ma otu ọ dị, ndị na-eso ụzọ ya rịọrọ ya sị, “Onye ozizi rienụ nri.”
Meanwhile the disciples were urging Jesus. "Rabbi," they said, "eat something."
32 Ma ọ sịrị ha, “Enwere m nri m na-eri nke unu na-amaghị maka ya.”
"I have food to eat," He replied, "of which you do not know."
33 Mgbe ahụ ndị na-eso ụzọ ya sịrịtara onwe ha, “Ọ ga-abụ na o nwere onye butere ya nri?”
So the disciples began questioning one another. "Can it be," they said, "that some one has brought Him something to eat?"
34 Jisọs sịrị ha, “Nri m bụ ime uche onye ahụ zitere m nakwa ịrụcha ọrụ ya.
"My food," said Jesus, "is to be obedient to Him who sent me, and fully to accomplish His work.
35 Unu na-asị, ‘ọ fọdụghị ọnwa anọ ka ịghọ mkpụrụ nʼubi ruo?’ Ma ana m agwa unu, megheenụ anya unu lee ubi ahụ, ha achaala maka ọghụghọ.
Do you not say, 'It wants four months yet to the harvest'? But look round, I tell you, and observe these plains-- they are already ripe for the sickle.
36 Ọ bụladị ugbu a, onye na-aghọ mkpụrụ na-anata ụgwọ ọrụ, ọ na-achịkọta mkpụrụ ahụ maka ndụ ebighị ebi, ka onye ghara mkpụrụ na onye ghọrọ ya nwee ike ịṅụrịkọta ọṅụ. (aiōnios g166)
The reaper gets pay and gathers in a crop in preparation for the Life of the Ages, that so the sower and the reapers may rejoice together. (aiōnios g166)
37 Ya mere okwu ahụ nke na-asị, ‘Otu onye na-agha mkpụrụ, onye ọzọ na-aghọkwa ya bụ eziokwu.’
For it is in this that you see the real meaning of the saying, 'The sower is one person, and the reaper is another.'
38 E zigara m unu ka unu gaa ghọta ihe unu na-arụghị ọrụ maka ya. Ndị ọzọ rụrụ ọrụ a, ma unu ewe uru dị nʼọrụ ha.”
I sent you to reap a harvest which is not the result of your own labours. Others have laboured, and you are getting benefit from their labours."
39 Ọtụtụ ndị obodo Sameria kweere na ya nʼihi ama ahụ nwanyị ahụ gbara, “Ọ gwara m ihe niile m mere.”
Of the Samaritan population of that town a good many believed in Him because of the woman's statement when she declared, "He has told me all that I have ever done."
40 Ya mere mgbe ndị Sameria bịakwutere ya, ha rịọrọ ya ka ọ nọnyetụrụ ha, ọ nọnyekwaara ha ụbọchị abụọ.
When however the Samaritans came to Him, they asked Him on all sides to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.
41 Ọtụtụ ndị ọzọ kwerekwara na ya nʼihi okwu ya.
Then a far larger number of people believed because of His own words,
42 Ha gwara nwanyị ahụ, “Ihe anyị jiri kwere ugbu a abụghị ihe i kwuru, kama ọ bụ nʼihi na anyị onwe anyị anụla olu ya, matakwa na onye a bụ Onye nzọpụta nke ụwa nʼeziokwu.”
and they said to the woman, "We no longer believe in Him simply because of your statements; for we have now heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Saviour of the world."
43 Mgbe ụbọchị abụọ ahụ gasịrị, ọ hapụrụ ebe ahụ gawa Galili.
After the two days He departed, and went into Galilee;
44 (Jisọs nʼonwe ya ekwuola na onye amụma anaghị enwe ugwu nʼobodo ya.)
though Jesus Himself declared that a Prophet has no honour in his own country.
45 Mgbe ọ bịaruru Galili, ndị Galili nabatara ya ebe ha onwe ha gara mmemme na Jerusalem, ma hụkwa ọtụtụ ọrụ ebube ọ rụrụ nʼoge mmemme ahụ.
When however He reached Galilee, the Galilaeans welcomed Him eagerly, having been eye-witnesses of all that He had done in Jerusalem at the Festival; for they also had been to the Festival.
46 Ọzọkwa, ọ bịaruru Kena nke Galili bụ ebe ahụ o mere mmiri ka ọ ghọọ mmanya. E nwekwara otu onye na-arụ ọrụ nʼụlọeze nọ nʼebe ahụ, nke ahụ na-adịghị nwa ya nwoke ike na Kapanọm.
So He came once more to Cana in Galilee, where He had made the water into wine. Now there was a certain officer of the King's court whose son was ill at Capernaum.
47 Mgbe ọ nụrụ na Jisọs esitela na Judịa bịarute na Galili, o jekwuuru ya rịọ ya ka ọ bịa gwọọ nwa ya, nʼihi na ọ nọ nʼọnụ ọnwụ.
Having heard that Jesus had come from Judaea to Galilee, he came to Him and begged Him to go down and cure his son; for he was at the point of death.
48 Jisọs sịrị ya, “Ọ bụrụ na unu ahụghị ọrụ ebube na ihe ịrịbama, unu agaghị ekwe ma ọlị.”
"Unless you and others see miracles and marvels," said Jesus, "nothing will induce you to believe."
49 Onye a na-arụ ọrụ nʼụlọeze sịrị ya, “Nna m ukwu, biko bịa tupu nwa m a nwụọ.”
"Sir," pleaded the officer, "come down before my child dies."
50 Jisọs sịrị ya, “Laa, nwa gị nwoke ga-adị ndụ.” Nwoke ahụ kweere nʼihe Jisọs kwuru laa.
"You may return home," replied Jesus; "your son has recovered." He believed the words of Jesus, and started back home;
51 Mgbe ọ ka nọ nʼụzọ, ndị ohu ya zutere ya kọọrọ ya na ahụ adịla nwa ya nwoke mma.
and he was already on his way down when his servants met him and told him that his son was alive and well.
52 Mgbe ọ jụrụ ha oge nwa ya jiri gbakee, ha sịrị ya, “Oke ahụ ọkụ ahụ kwụsịrị ya ụnyaahụ nʼelekere mbụ nke ehihie.”
So he inquired of them at what hour he had shown improvement. "Yesterday, about seven o'clock," they replied, "the fever left him."
53 Nwoke ahụ ghọtara na ọ bụ kpomkwem nʼoge awa ahụ Jisọs gwara ya, “Nwa gị nwoke ga-adị ndụ.” Ya mere ya na ezinaụlọ ya niile kwenyere.
Then the father recollected that that was the time at which Jesus had said to him, "Your son has recovered," and he and his whole household became believers.
54 Nke a bụ ihe ịrịbama nke abụọ Jisọs rụrụ na Galili mgbe o siri Judịa bịa.
This is the second miracle that Jesus performed, after coming from Judaea into Galilee.
