1 “Ihe ndị a niile ka m gwara unu ka unu ghara ịda.
“I have spoken to you in this way so that you may not falter.
2 Ha ga-esite nʼụlọ ekpere ha chụpụ unu. Nʼezie, oge na-abịa mgbe onye ọbụla ga-egbu unu ga-echekwa na ọ na-efe Chineke mgbe ha na-eme nke a.
They will expel you from their synagogues; indeed the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think that they are making an offering to God.
3 Ha ga-eme ihe ndị a nʼihi na ha amaghị Nna maọbụ m.
They will do this, because they have not learned to know the Father, or even me.
4 Ana m agwa unu ihe ndị a ka ọ ga-abụ na mgbe oge ga-eru, unu echeta na m gwara unu. Agwaghị m unu ihe ndị a na mbụ nʼihi na mụ na unu nọ mgbe ahụ.
But I have spoken to you of these things so that, when the time for them comes, you may remember that I told you about them myself.
5 Ma ugbu a, ana m alaghachikwuru onye ahụ zitere m. Ma ọ dịghị onye ọbụla nʼetiti unu jụrụ m, ‘Olee ebe ị na-aga?’
I did not tell you all this at first, because I was with you. But now I am to return to him who sent me; and yet not one of you asks me – ‘Where are you going?’
6 Ma nʼihi na m gwara unu ihe ndị a, obi unu ejupụtala na mwute.
Although your hearts are full of sorrow at all that I have been saying to you.
7 Nʼagbanyeghị nke a, aga m agwa unu eziokwu, ọ bụ maka ọdịmma unu ka m ji ala. Ọ bụrụ na m alaghị, Onye Ndụmọdụ ahụ agaghị abịa. Ọ bụrụ na m laa, aga m ezitere unu ya.
Yet I am only telling you the truth; it is for your good that I should go away. For otherwise the helper will never come to you, but, if I leave you, I will send him to you.
8 Mgbe ọ bịara, ọ ga-eme ka ụwa mata ezughị oke nke nghọta ya banyere mmehie, na ezi omume na ikpe,
And he, when he comes, will bring conviction to the world as to sin, and as to righteousness, and as to judgment;
9 maka mmehie nʼihi na ha ekwenyeghị na m;
as to sin, for people do not believe in me;
10 ma gbasara ezi omume, nʼihi na ana m alakwuru Nna, ebe unu na-apụghị ịhụ m ọzọ,
as to righteousness, for I am going to the Father, and you will see me no longer;
11 maka ikpe, nʼihi na e kpeela onyeisi ụwa a ikpe.
as to judgment, for the Spirit that is ruling this world has been condemned.
12 “Enwere m ọtụtụ ihe ọzọ m ga-agwa unu. Ma ugbu a, unu agaghị anabatalị ha.
I have still much to say to you, but you cannot bear it now.
13 Ma mgbe Mmụọ eziokwu ahụ bịara, ọ ga-eduba unu nʼeziokwu niile. Ọ gaghị ekwu ihe banyere onwe ya, kama ọ bụ ihe niile ọ nụrụ ka ọ ga-ekwu. Ọ ga-ezikwa unu ihe niile gaje ịbịa.
Yet when he – The Spirit of truth – comes, he will guide you into all truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but he will speak of all that he hears; and he will tell you of the things that are to come.
14 Ọ ga-enye m otuto, nʼihi na ọ ga-esite nʼaka m nata ihe ọ ga-akọrọ unu.
He will honor me; because he will take of what is mine, and will tell it to you.
15 Ihe niile Nna nwere bụ nke m. Ọ bụ ya mere m ji sị, na ọ ga-ewere site nʼihe bụ nkem, kọwara ya unu.
Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said that he takes of what is mine, and will tell it to you.
16 “Ọ fọdụrụ nwantakịrị oge unu agaghị ahụkwa m. Ma mgbe nwantịntị oge gasịkwara, unu ga-ahụkwa m anya ọzọ.”
In a little while you will no longer see me; and then in a little while you will see me indeed.”
17 Ụfọdụ ndị na-eso ụzọ ya sịrịtara onwe ha, “Gịnị ka o bu nʼuche mgbe ọ na-asị, ‘Nwa oge nta unu agaghị ahụkwa m ọzọ, ma mgbe nwa oge gasịkwara unu ga-ahụkwa m,’ na ‘Nʼihi na ana m alakwuru Nna’?”
At this some of his disciples said to one another, “What does he mean by saying to us ‘In a little while you will not see me, and then in a little while you will see me indeed’; and by saying ‘Because I am going to the Father’?
18 Ha na-asị, “Gịnị ka okwu a pụtara bụ ‘nwa oge nta’? Anyị aghọtaghị ihe ọ na-ekwu.”
What does he mean by ‘In a little while’?” they said. “We do not know what he is speaking about.”
19 Jisọs matara na ha chọrọ ịjụ ya ihe banyere nke a, nʼihi ya ọ sịrị ha, “Unu na-ajụrịta onwe unu ihe okwu m pụtara mgbe m sịrị, ‘Na nwa oge nta unu agaghị ahụkwa m ọzọ, ma nwa mgbe nta unu ga-ahụkwa m’?
Jesus saw that they were wanting to ask him a question, and said, “Are you trying to find out from one another what I meant by saying ‘In a little while you will not see me; and then in a little while you will see me indeed’?
20 Nʼezie, nʼezie, agwa m unu, unu ga-akwa akwa ma nwekwa obi mwute, ma ụwa ga-aṅụrị ọṅụ. Ma iru ụjụ unu ga-aghọrọ unu ọṅụ.
In truth I tell you that you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice; you will suffer pain, but your pain will turn to joy.
21 Mgbe ime na-eme nwanyị, ọ na-anọ nʼọnọdụ ihe mgbu. Mgbe ọ mụsịrị nwa ya, ọ dịghị echetakwa ihe mgbu ya ọzọ. Nʼihi ọṅụ na a mụpụtala nwa nʼelu ụwa.
A woman in labor is in pain because her time has come; but no sooner is the child born, than she forgets her trouble in her joy that a child has been born into the world.
22 Unu nọ nʼọnọdụ iru ụjụ ugbu a, ma aga m ahụ unu anya ọzọ, obi unu ga-ejupụta nʼọṅụ. Mmadụ ọbụla apụghịkwa ịnapụ unu ọṅụ unu.
You, in the same way, are sorry now; but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will rob you of your joy.
23 Ma nʼụbọchị ahụ, unu agakwaghị arịọ m ihe ọbụla. Nʼezie, nʼezie, agwa m unu, ihe ọbụla unu ga-arịọ Nna m nʼaha m, ọ ga-enye unu.
And at that time you will not ask me anything; in truth I tell you, if you ask the Father for anything, he will grant it to you in my name.
24 Ruo ugbu a, ọ dịbeghị ihe unu rịọrọ nʼaha m. Rịọọnụ, unu ga-arịọta, ka ọṅụ unu zukwaa oke.
So far you have not asked for anything, in my name; ask, and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
25 “Eji m ilu na-agwa unu okwu ugbu a, ma oge na-abịa mgbe m na-agaghị ejikwa ilu gwa unu okwu. Mgbe ahụ ka m ga-akọwara unu niile ihe banyere Nna m nʼụzọ unu ga-aghọta ya.
I have spoken to you of all this in figures; a time is coming, however, when I will not speak any longer to you in figures, but will tell you about the Father plainly.
26 Nʼụbọchị ahụ, unu ga-arịọ ihe nʼaha m. Asịghị m unu na m ga-arịọ Nna ihe nʼihi unu.
You will ask, at that time, in my name; and I do not say that I will intercede with the Father for you;
27 Nʼihi na Nna m nʼonwe ya hụrụ unu nʼanya, nʼihi na unu hụrụ m nʼanya kwerekwa na m si nʼebe Chineke nọ bịa.
for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from the Father.
28 Esi m nʼebe Nna nọ pụta, bịa nʼime ụwa. Ana m ahapụkwa ụwa ịlaghachikwuru Nna.”
I came out from the Father, and have come into the world; and now I am to leave the world, and go to the Father.”
29 Ndị na-eso ụzọ ya sịrị, “Lee, ugbu a ka okwu gị doro anya. Ọ bụkwaghị ilu ka i na-atụ.
“At last,” exclaimed the disciples, “you are using plain words and not speaking in figures at all.
30 Ugbu a ka o doro anyị anya na ị maara ihe niile. Ọ bakwaghị uru ka onye ọbụla jụọ gị ihe ọbụla. Nʼihi nke a, anyị kwere na i si nʼebe Chineke nọ bịa.”
Now we are sure that you know everything, and need not wait for anyone to question you. This makes us believe that you did come from God.”
31 Jisọs zara ha, “Unu ekwerela ugbu a?
“Do you believe that already?” Jesus answered.
32 Lee! Oge na-abịa, oge ahụ eruola, mgbe unu ga-agbasacha. Onye ọbụla nʼụlọ nke ya. Mgbe ahụ, unu ga-ahapụ naanị m, ma ọ bụghị naanị m nọ nʼihi na mụ na Nna m nọ.
“Listen! A time is coming – indeed it has already come – when you are to be scattered, each going his own way, and to leave me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 “Agwala m unu ihe ndị a niile ka unu nwee udo nʼime m. Nʼime ụwa, unu ga-enwe nsogbu. Ma ka obi sie unu ike, nʼihi na emeriela m ụwa.”
I have spoken to you in this way, so that in me you may find peace. In the world you will find trouble; yet, take courage! I have conquered the world.”
