1 Na mbụ okwu ahụ dịrịị, okwu ahụ na Chineke nọ, okwu ahụ bụkwa Chineke.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and God was the Word.
2 Ya na Chineke nọ site na mbụ.
He was with God in the beginning.
All things were made through Him, and nothing that was made was made without Him.
4 Nʼime ya ka ndụ dịrịị, ndụ ahụ bụkwa ìhè nye mmadụ niile,
Life was in Him, and Life was the light of men.
5 ìhè ahụ na-enwu nʼime ọchịchịrị, ma ọchịchịrị ahụ emenyụghị ya.
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
6 Ọ dị otu nwoke Chineke zitere, aha ya bụ Jọn.
There was a man sent by God, whose name was John.
7 Ọ bịara dị ka onye akaebe ịgba ama banyere ìhè ahụ, ka mmadụ niile site nʼaka ya kwere.
He arrived as a witness to offer testimony about the Light, so that all would believe through him.
8 Ya onwe ya abụghị ìhè ahụ, ọ bịara naanị ịgba akaebe banyere ìhè ahụ.
He was not the Light, but he was to offer testimony about the Light.
9 Ezi ìhè ahụ nke na-enye mmadụ ọbụla ìhè na-abịa nʼime ụwa.
The true Light, which illuminates every man, was coming into this world.
10 Ọ bịara nʼụwa, ma ụwa bụ ihe e kere site nʼaka ya, ma ụwa amataghị onye ọ bụ.
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world did not recognize him.
11 Ọ bịakwutere ihe ndị ahụ bụ ndị nke ya, ma ndị ahụ bụ ndị nke ya anabataghị ya.
He went to his own, and his own did not accept him.
12 Ma ndị ahụ niile nabatara ya, ndị ahụ niile kweere nʼaha ya ka o nyere ike ịghọ ụmụ Chineke.
Yet whoever did accept him, those who believed in his name, he gave them the power to become the sons of God.
13 Ụmụ a na-amụghị site nʼọbara, maọbụ site na mkpebi nke anụ ahụ, ma ọ bụkwanụ mkpebi nke mmadụ, kama site na Chineke.
These are born, not of blood, nor of the will of flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 Okwu ahụ ghọrọ anụ ahụ birikwa nʼetiti anyị. Anyị ahụla ebube ya, ebube nke onye naanị ya bụ Ọkpara Nna mụrụ, onye si nʼebe Nna nọ bịa, onye jupụtara nʼamara na eziokwu.
And the Word became flesh, and he lived among us, and we saw his glory, glory like that of an only-begotten Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 Jọn gbara ama banyere ya mgbe ọ na-eti mkpu na-asị, “Onye a bụ onye ahụ m kwuru banyere ya, ‘Onye na-abịa m nʼazụ dị ukwuu karịa m, nʼihi na o bukwa m ụzọ dịrị.’”
John offers testimony about him, and he cries out, saying: “This is the one about whom I said: ‘He who is to come after me, has been placed ahead of me, because he existed before me.’”
16 Site nʼịba ụba nke amara ya, anyị niile anatala amara a tụkwasịrị nʼamara.
And from his fullness, we all have received, even grace for grace.
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one ever saw God; the only-begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he himself has described him.
19 Nke a bụ ịgba ama Jọn mgbe ndị ndu ndị Juu nọ na Jerusalem zipụrụ ndị nchụaja na ndị Livayị ka ha bịa jụọ ya onye ọ bụ?
And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to him, so that they might ask him, “Who are you?”
And he confessed it and did not deny it; and what he confessed was: “I am not the Christ.”
“Mba.”
And they questioned him: “Then what are you? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”
22 Ha sịrị ya, “Ị bụ onye? Nye anyị ọsịsa anyị ga-eweghachiri ndị zitere anyị. Gịnị ka i kwuru banyere onwe gị?”
Therefore, they said to him: “Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
23 Ọ sịrị, dịka Aịzaya onye amụma kwuru, “Abụ m onye na-eti mkpu nʼime ọzara, ‘Meenụ ka ụzọ Onyenwe anyị guzozie.’”
He said, “I am a voice crying out in the desert, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ just as the prophet Isaiah said.”
24 Ma ndị Farisii ahụ ezitere
And some of those who had been sent were from among the Pharisees.
25 jụrụ ya, sị, “Gịnị mere i ji na-eme baptizim ọ bụrụ na ị bụghị Kraịst maọbụ Ịlaịja, maọbụ onye amụma ahụ?”
And they questioned him and said to him, “Then why do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, and not Elijah, and not the Prophet?”
26 Jọn zara ha sị, “Eji m mmiri na-eme baptizim, ma ọ dị otu onye nọ nʼetiti unu nke unu na-amaghị.
John answered them by saying: “I baptize with water. But in your midst stands one, whom you do not know.
27 Onye ahụ nke na-abịa nʼazụ m, onye m na-erughị ịtọpụ eriri akpụkpọụkwụ ya.”
The same is he who is to come after me, who has been placed ahead of me, the laces of whose shoes I am not worthy to loosen.”
28 Ihe a mere na Betani nʼofe osimiri Jọdan bụ ebe Jọn nọ na-eme baptizim.
These things happened in Bethania, across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 Nʼechi ya, ọ hụrụ ka Jisọs na-abịakwute ya sị, “Leekwa, Nwa Atụrụ Chineke, onye na-ebupụ mmehie ụwa.
On the next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him, and so he said: “Behold, the Lamb of God. Behold, he who takes away the sin of the world.
30 Ọ bụ onye a ka m kwuru okwu ya mgbe ahụ m sịrị, ‘otu nwoke na-abịa nʼazụ m, onye dị ukwuu karịa m, nʼihi na o bukwa m ụzọ dịrị.’
This is the one about whom I said, ‘After me arrives a man, who has been placed ahead of me, because he existed before me.’
31 Mụ onwe m amataghị ya, ma a bịara m were mmiri na-eme baptizim nʼihi nke a, ka e kpughee ya nye ndị Izrel.”
And I did not know him. Yet it is for this reason that I come baptizing with water: so that he may be made manifest in Israel.”
32 Mgbe ahụ Jọn gbara ama a sị, “Ahụrụ m ka Mmụọ Nsọ sitere nʼeluigwe rịdata dị ka nduru, nọkwasị ya.
And John offered testimony, saying: “For I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove; and he remained upon him.
33 Mụ onwe m amabughị ya, ma onye ahụ zitere m ka m jiri mmiri mee baptizim kwuru, ‘Onye ahụ ị ga-ahụ, onye Mmụọ Nsọ ga-ebekwasị, ma nọgidekwa, ọ bụ ya ga-eji Mmụọ Nsọ mee baptizim.’
And I did not know him. But he who sent me to baptize with water said to me: ‘He over whom you will see the Spirit descending and remaining upon him, this is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
34 Mụ onwe m ahụla ya, na-agbakwa ama na onye a bụ Ọkpara Chineke.”
And I saw, and I gave testimony: that this one is the Son of God.”
The next day again, John was standing with two of his disciples.
36 Mgbe ọ hụrụ Jisọs ka ọ na-agafe, ọ sịrị, “Leenụ, Nwa Atụrụ Chineke.”
And catching sight of Jesus walking, he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God.”
And two disciples were listening to him speaking. And they followed Jesus.
Then Jesus, turning around and seeing them following him, said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi (which means in translation, Teacher), where do you live?”
39 Ọ sịrị ha, “Bịanụ, unu ga-ahụ.” Ha sooro ya ga hụ ebe ọ na-anọ. Ha nọnyekwara ya ụbọchị ahụ niile. Ọ bụ nʼihe dị ka elekere anọ nke mgbede.
He said to them, “Come and see.” They went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. Now it was about the tenth hour.
40 Otu nʼime mmadụ abụọ ahụ nụrụ ihe Jọn kwuru, nke sooro ya bụ Andru nwanne Saimọn Pita.
And Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who had heard about him from John and had followed him.
41 Ihe mbụ o mere bụ ịchọta Saimọn nwanne ya sị ya, “Anyị achọtala Mezaya ahụ” (onye a na-akpọkwa Kraịst).
First, he found his brother Simon, and he said to him, “We have found the Messiah,” (which is translated as the Christ).
42 Ọ kpọtaara ya Jisọs. O lere ya anya sị, “Ị bụ Saimọn nwa Jọn. A ga-akpọ gị Sefas” (nke nsụgharị ya, pụtara Pita).
And he led him to Jesus. And Jesus, gazing at him, said: “You are Simon, son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas,” (which is translated as Peter).
43 Nʼechi ya, o kpebiri ịga Galili. Mgbe ọ hụrụ Filip, ọ sịrị ya, “Soro m.”
On the next day, he wanted to go into Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”
Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Filip chọtara Nataniel sị ya, “Anyị achọtala onye ahụ Mosis dere banyere ya nʼiwu, onye ndị amụma dekwara banyere ya, Jisọs onye Nazaret, nwa Josef.”
Philip found Nathanael, and he said to him, “We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the Law and the Prophets: Jesus, the son of Joseph, from Nazareth.”
46 Nataniel sịrị ya, “Ihe ọma ọbụla ọ pụrụ i si na Nazaret pụta?” Ma Filip sịrị ya, “Bịa ka ị hụrụ.”
And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good be from Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
47 Mgbe Jisọs hụrụ ka Nataniel na-abịaru ya nso, o kwuru sị, “Leenụ ezi nwa afọ Izrel onye aghụghọ na-adịghị nʼime ya.”
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, and he said about him, “Behold, an Israelite in whom truly there is no deceit.”
48 Nataniel sịrị ya, “Olee otu i si mata onye m bụ?” Jisọs sịrị ya, “Tupu Filip akpọ gị, ahụlarị m gị ka ị nọ nʼokpuru osisi fiig.”
Nathanael said to him, “From where do you know me?” Jesus responded and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 Mgbe ahụ, Nataniel zaghachiri, “Onye ozizi, ị bụ Ọkpara Chineke; ị bụ eze Izrel.”
Nathanael answered him and said: “Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are the King of Israel.”
Ị ga-ahụ ihe dị ukwuu karịa nke a.”
Jesus responded and said to him: “Because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree, you believe. Greater things than these, you will see.”
51 Ọ sịkwara ya, “Nʼezie, nʼezie agwa m unu, unu ga-ahụ eluigwe ka o meghere hụkwa ndị mmụọ ozi Chineke ka ha na-arịgokwuru, ma na-arịdakwuru Nwa nke Mmadụ.”
And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the Angels of God ascending and descending over the Son of man.”
