< Jemis 2 >

1 Ụmụnna m, dịka ndị kweere nʼOnyenwe anyị Jisọs Kraịst, onye dị ebube, ka unu hapụ ile mmadụ anya nʼihu.
MY brethren, hold not the faith of our glorious Lord Jesus shewing a respect for persons.
2 Ọ bụrụ na onye ọgaranya yi uwe mara mma, yikwara mgbaaka ọlaedo na mkpịsịaka ya, abata nʼụlọ nzukọ unu, ọ bụrụkwa na nwa ogbenye abata nke yi uwe na-adịghị ọcha,
For if there come into your congregation a man with a gold ring, and in splendid apparel, and there come in also a poor man in a sordid garb;
3 ọ bụrụ na unu elee onye ọgaranya ahụ yi uwe mara mma anya sị ya, “Bịa nọdụ nʼotu oche a e debere iche nʼihi gị,” ma unu asị onye ogbenye ahụ, “Di anyị, guzo nʼebe ahụ,” maọbụ “Bịa nọdụ ala nʼakụkụ ebe a ụkwụ m dị,”
and ye fix your eyes upon him who bears the splendid robe, and say to him, Sit thou here in an honourable place; and ye say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:
4 ọ bụ na unu akpabeghị oke nʼetiti onwe unu, bụrụkwa ndị ji ile anya nʼihu na obi ọjọọ na-ekpe ikpe?
are you not thus partial among yourselves, and form your decision from bad reasonings?
5 Geenụ ntị ka m gwa unu ụmụnna m, ọ bụ na unu amataghị na Chineke ahọpụtala ndị ahụ ụwa gụrụ dịka ndị ogbenye, mee ka ha bụrụ ọgaranya site nʼokwukwe ha, ka ha ketakwa alaeze ahụ o kwere nkwa inye ndị hụrụ ya nʼanya?
Hear me, my beloved brethren. Hath not God elected the poor of this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which God hath promised to those who love him;
6 Ma gịnị ka unu na-eme? Unu na-akparị ndị ogbenye! Ọ bụghị ndị ọgaranya na-emegbu unu? Ọ bụkwaghị ha bụ ndị na-adọkpụgharị unu aga nʼụlọikpe?
but ye have put contempt on the poor man? Do not the rich men tyrannize over you? and they drag you to the tribunals.
7 Ọ bụghị ha bụ ndị na-ekwulu aha ọma ahụ nke a gụrụ unu?
Do they not blaspheme that honourable name by which ye are called?
8 Ọ bụrụ na unu na-edebezuo iwu nke eze anyị dịka e dere ya nʼAkwụkwọ Nsọ, “Hụnụ ndị agbataobi unu nʼanya dịka unu onwe unu,” unu na-eme ihe ziri ezi.
If indeed ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
9 Ma ọ bụrụ na unu ele mmadụ anya nʼihu, unu na-eme mmehie. Nʼebe iwu dịkwa, unu bụ ndị na-emebi iwu.
but if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
10 Nʼihi na onye ọbụla nke na-edebe iwu ahụ niile ma sụọ ngọngọ nʼotu, a bụrụla onye ikpe iwu ahụ niile maara.
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, but offendeth in a single particular, he is chargeable with the breach of all.
11 Nʼihi na onye ahụ sịrị, “Akwala iko,” bụkwa onye sịrị, “Egbula mmadụ.” Ya mere, ọ bụrụ na ị kwaghị iko ma i gburu mmadụ, ị bụ onye na-emebi iwu.
For he that said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, said also, Thou shalt not commit murder. Now if thou dost not commit adultery, yet dost commit murder, thou art a transgressor of the law.
12 Ya mere, na-ekwunu okwu, ma na-ebikwanụ ndụ dị ka ndị a ga-ekpe ikpe site nʼiwu ahụ na-eme ka mmadụ nwere onwe ha.
So speak, and so act, as those who shall be judged by the law of liberty.
13 Nʼihi na agaghị emere onye ọbụla ebere nke na-adịghị emere onye ọzọ ebere. Nʼihi na ebere na-adị ukwuu karịa ikpe ọmụma ya.
For judgment without mercy shall be on him who shewed no mercy, and mercy glorieth against judgment.
14 Olee uru ọ bara ụmụnna m, na mmadụ sịrị, enwere m okwukwe, ma okwukwe ahụ apụtaghị ihe nʼọrụ ya? Ụdị okwukwe ahụ ọ pụrụ ịzọpụta ya?
What is the advantage, my brethren, if a man profess to have faith, but hath not works; can faith save him?
15 Ọ bụrụ na otu nwanne anyị nwoke maọbụ nwanne anyị nwanyị yi nkịrịnka akwa, ọ bụrụkwa na o nweghị ihe oriri ga-ezuru ya nʼụbọchị,
Now if a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 ma otu onye nʼime unu asị ha, “Laa nʼudo, kpuchiekwa onwe gị nke ọma, rijuokwa afọ,” nʼenyeghị ya ihe dị mkpa maka ahụ ya, uru gịnị ka ọ bara?
and should one of you say to them, Go in peace, be warm, be replenished with food: yet if ye give them not the necessaries for their body; what doth it avail?
17 Nʼụzọ dị otu a, okwukwe naanị ya bụ ihe na-abaghị uru ma ọ bụrụ na ọrụ esoghị ya.
So also faith, if it hath not works, is dead itself.
18 Otu onye ga-asị, “I nwere okwukwe; e nwere m ọrụ.” Gosi m okwukwe gị ma e wepụ ọrụ gị, aga m egosi gị okwukwe site nʼọrụ
Perhaps a man will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith by thy works, and I will shew thee by my works my faith.
19 I kweere na ọ bụ naanị otu Chineke, i mere nke ọma, ọ bụladị ndị mmụọ ọjọọ kweere ma kụja.
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe and tremble.
20 Gị onye nzuzu, ị na-achọ ka e gosi gị na okwukwe bụ ihe na-abaghị uru ma ọ bụrụ na ọrụ e soghị ya?
But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Ọ bụ na nna anyị Ebraham abụghị onye a gụrụ nʼonye ezi omume site nʼọrụ ya, mgbe o jiri otu nwa ya bụ Aịzik chụọ aja nʼebe ịchụ aja?
Was not our father Abraham justified by works, when he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Unu ahụghị na okwukwe ya na ọrụ soro rụkọọ nʼotu, e sitekwara nʼọrụ ya mee ka okwukwe ya zuo oke.
Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith consummated.
23 Ọ bụ site na nke a ka ihe e dere nʼakwụkwọ nsọ jiri mezuo, nke na asị, “Ebraham kweere na Chineke, a gụrụ nke a nye ya dị ka ezi omume,” kpọọkwa ya enyi Chineke.
And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, “Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness;” and he was called “the friend of God.”
24 Unu ahụla na a na-esite nʼihe mmadụ rụrụ gụọ ya nʼonye ezi omume, ọ bụkwaghị naanị nʼokwukwe.
Observe therefore that by works a man is justified, and not by faith merely.
25 Nʼotu ụzọ ahụ, agụnyeghị Rehab, nwanyị akwụna ahụ nʼonye ezi omume nʼihi ọrụ ọ rụrụ, mgbe ọ kpọbatara ndị nnyopụta ahụ ma zipụkwa ha site nʼụzọ dị iche?
But was not Rahab the harlot in like manner justified by works, when she entertained the messengers, and sent them away by a different road?
26 Dịka anụ ahụ na-enweghị mmụọ si bụrụ ihe nwụrụ anwụ, otu a ka ọ dịkwa okwukwe na-enweghị ọrụ.
For as the body without breath is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
