1 Nʼafọ nke iri na anọ nke ọchịchị eze Hezekaya, Senakerib, bụ eze Asịrịa, busoro obodo Juda niile e wusiri ike agha, meriekwa ha.
Now it happened in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all of the fortified cities of Judah, and captured them.
The king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem to king Hezekiah with a large army. He stood by the aqueduct from the upper pool on the highway to the Launderers' Field.
3 Eliakịm, nwa Hilkaya, onye nlekọta ụlọeze, na Shebna, bụ ode akwụkwọ eze, na Joa nwa Asaf, onye ndekọ akụkọ ihe mere, pụrụ jekwuru ya.
Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder came out to him.
4 Ọchịagha ahụ sịrị ha, “Gwanụ Hezekaya: “‘Otu a ka eze ukwu ahụ, bụ eze Asịrịa, na-ekwu, Ọ bụ na gịnị ka ntụkwasị obi gị dabere?
Rabshakeh said to them, "Now tell Hezekiah, 'Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, "What confidence is this in which you trust?
Ọ bụ onye ka ị na-atụkwasị obi, mere i ji enupu isi nʼokpuru m?
Do you think that empty words are strategy and power for war? Now in whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?
6 Lee, amatara m na ị na-atụkwasị obi nʼIjipt, mkpanaka achara ahụ gbajiri agbaji, nke na-adụwa aka onye ọbụla na-adabere na ya. Otu a ka Fero, eze Ijipt dị nye ndị niile na-atụkwasị ya obi.
Look, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt, which if a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
But if you tell me, 'We trust in YHWH our God,' isn't that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, 'You shall worship before this altar?'"
8 “‘Ma ugbu a, bịa kwee nna m ukwu, bụ eze Asịrịa nkwa. Aga m enye gị puku ịnyịnya abụọ ma ọ bụrụ na i nwere ike ịchọta ndị ga-agba ha.
Now therefore, please make a pledge to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.
9 Ị ga-esi kwa aṅaa jụ otu onyeisi nke dịkarịsịrị nta nʼime ndịisi ọrụ onyenwe m, na-agbanyeghịkwa na i na-atụkwasị obi nʼIjipt maka inweta ụgbọ agha na ndị na-agba ịnyịnya?
How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
10 Tinyere nke a, abịara m ibuso ala a agha na ibibi ya ma ọ bụghị nkwado Onyenwe anyị? Onyenwe anyị ya onwe ya gwara m ka m bilie megide obodo a, lakwaa ya nʼiyi.’”
Have I come up now without YHWH against this land to destroy it? YHWH said to me, "Go up against this land, and destroy it."'"
11 Mgbe ahụ Eliakịm, Shebna na Joa sịrị ọchịagha ahụ, “Biko, gwa ndị ohu gị okwu nʼasụsụ Aramaik, ebe ọ bụ na anyị na-aghọta ya. Agwala anyị okwu nʼasụsụ Hibru, ebe ndị nọ nʼelu mgbidi ga-anụ.”
Then Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to Rabshakeh, "Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it; and do not speak to us in the Jews' language in the hearing of the people who are on the wall."
12 Ma ọchịagha ahụ zaghachiri, “Ọ bụ nʼihi naanị nna unu ukwu na nye unu onwe unu ka nna m ukwu ji zite m, ka m kwuo ihe ndị a? Ọ bụghị nʼihi ndị mmadụ ahụ na-anọdụ nʼelu mgbidi, ndị, dịka unu, ha ga-eso rie nsị ha nyụrụ, ṅụọkwa mamịrị ha nyụrụ?”
But Rabshakeh said, "Has my master sent me only to your master and to you, to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?"
13 Mgbe ahụ, ọchịagha ahụ guzoro were oke olu kwuo nʼasụsụ Hibru, sị, “Nụrụnụ okwu niile nke eze ukwu ahụ, bụ eze Asịrịa.
Then Rabshakeh stood, and called out with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said, "Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
14 Nke a bụ ihe eze sịrị, Unu ekwela ka Hezekaya duhie unu. Ọ pụghị ịzọpụta unu.
Thus says the king, 'Do not let Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you.
15 Unu ekwela ka Hezekaya mee ka unu tụkwasị Onyenwe anyị obi, mgbe ọ na-asị, ‘Nʼezie, Onyenwe anyị aghaghị ịnapụta anyị. A gaghị enyefe obodo a nʼaka eze Asịrịa.’
Do not let Hezekiah make you trust in YHWH, saying, "YHWH will surely deliver us. This city won't be given into the hand of the king of Assyria."'
Do not listen to Hezekiah, for thus says the king of Assyria, 'Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and each of you eat from his vine, and each one from his fig tree, and each one of you drink the waters of his own cistern;
17 ruo mgbe m ga-abịa duru unu gaa nʼala dịka nke unu, bụ ala mkpụrụ ọka na nke mmanya ọhụrụ, ala achịcha na ubi vaịnị jupụtara nʼime ya.
until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
18 “Unu ekwela ka Hezekaya rafuo unu mgbe ọ na-asị, ‘Onyenwe anyị ga-anapụta anyị.’ O nweela chi niile nke ndị mba ọzọ, nke napụtarala ala ha site nʼaka eze Asịrịa.
Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, "YHWH will deliver us." Have any of the gods of the nations delivered their lands from the hand of the king of Assyria?
Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Iwah? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand?
20 Olee chi nʼime chi mba ndị a niile, bụ ndị zọpụtarala ala ha site nʼaka m? Unu si aṅaa chee na Onyenwe anyị pụrụ ịzọpụta Jerusalem site nʼaka m?”
Who are they among all the gods of these countries that have delivered their country out of my hand, that YHWH should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?'"
21 Ma ndị ahụ niile gbara nkịtị, ha ekwughị ihe ọbụla, nʼihi na eze nyere ha iwu sị, “Unu azaghachila ya.”
But they remained silent, and said nothing in reply, for the king's commandment was, "Do not answer him."
Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
