1 Nʼafọ ahụ, Sagọn, eze Asịrịa, zipụrụ ọchịagha onye ọkwa ya kasị ukwuu, ka ọ gaa buso Ashdọd agha. Ọ gara meriekwa ya nʼagha.
In the year when Sargon, king of Assyria, sent his army commander to attack the town of Ashdod and conquered it,
O mere otu a, ọ gbaara ọtọ, jegharịakwa nʼụkwụ efu.
at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah, son of Amoz. He told him, “Take off the sackcloth clothes from your body and remove your sandals.” Isaiah did so and went around naked and barefoot.
3 Mgbe ahụ, Onyenwe anyị sịrị, “Dị ka ohu m Aịzaya si gbara ọtọ jegharịa nʼụkwụ efu afọ atọ ndị a niile, ọ bụ ihe ama na ihe ịdọ aka na ntị na-egosi ihe gaje ịbịakwasị ndị Ijipt na ndị Kush.
Then the Lord said, “In the same way that my servant Isaiah has gone naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and a warning against Egypt and Ethiopia,
so shall the king of Assyria lead the Egyptian prisoners and the Ethiopian exiles, both young and old, naked and barefoot. Their buttocks will be bare, to Egypt's shame.
5 Egwu ga-ejide ndị ahụ niile nwere nchekwube nʼike Kush, na ndị ahụ niile jiri Ijipt nyaa isi ga-ada mba. Ihere ga-emekwa ha.
They will be discouraged and humiliated because they had put their hope in Ethiopia and proudly trusted in Egypt.
6 Nʼụbọchị ahụ, ndị ahụ dịnyeere ha, bụ ndị bi nʼọnụ mmiri ha ga-asị, ‘Ọ bụrụ na ihe dị otu a dakwasịrị ndị Ijipt anyị tụkwasịrị obi inyere anyị aka, na ịnapụta anyị site nʼaka eze Asịrịa, ebeekwanụ ka anyị ga-agbaga?’”
At that time the people living in the coastal lands will say, ‘Look what has happened those we were depending on! We ran to them for help to save us from the king of Assyria. We don't stand a chance!’”
