< Hegai 2 >
1 nʼụbọchị nke iri abụọ na otu, nʼọnwa nke asaa, okwu Onyenwe anyị si nʼọnụ onye amụma Hegai bịakwa na-asị:
On October 17 [of that year], Yahweh gave [me], the prophet Haggai, [another] message.
2 “Gwa Zerubabel nwa Shealtiel, onye na-achị Juda, na Joshua nwa Jehozadak, onyeisi nchụaja, na ndị Izrel ahụ fọdụrụ nʼala ahụ sị:
[The message was that I should] say this to Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and to the other people who were still alive [in Jerusalem]:
3 ‘Onye nʼime unu nwere ike icheta otu ụlọnsọ ukwu nke mbụ si dị ebube? Ọ dị aṅaa nʼanya unu ugbu a? Ọ bụ na ọ dịghị unu ka ihe efu ugbu a.
“Do any of you remember how glorious our former temple was? [If you do, ] what does it look like to you now? It must seem like nothing at all.
4 Ma ugbu a nwee obi ike Zerubabel,’ ka Onyenwe anyị kwuru. ‘Nwekwaa obi ike gị Joshua onyeisi nchụaja, nwa Jehozadak. Nwekwaanụ obi ike unu ndị niile bi nʼala a.’ Ka Onyenwe anyị kwuru. ‘Rụọnụ ọrụ nʼihi na anọnyeere m unu,’ ka Onyenwe anyị, Onye pụrụ ime ihe niile na-ekwu.
But now the Commander of the armies of angels says to [all of you], to Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of you people who live in this nation, ‘[Do not be discouraged; ] be strong [DOU], and work [to build this new temple], because I will (be with/help) you.
5 ‘Nke a bụ ihe merenụ mgbe mụ na unu gbara ndụ nʼoge ahụ unu si nʼIjipt pụta. Mmụọ m na-anọgidekwa nʼetiti unu. Unu atụla egwu.’
My Spirit remains among you, like I promised your [ancestors] when they left Egypt. [So] do not be afraid!’”
6 “Nʼihi na ihe ndị a ka Onyenwe anyị, Onye pụrụ ime ihe niile kwuru, ‘Ọ fọdụrụ otu ugbo, nwa oge nta gasịa, aga m ayọgharị eluigwe na ụwa, na osimiri na ala akọrọ.
This is what the Commander of the armies of angels says: “Soon I will shake the sky and the earth, the oceans and the land again.
7 Aga m ayọgharịkwa mba niile; ihe mba niile na-achọsi ike ga-abịa. Aga m eme ka ụlọ a jupụta nʼebube,’ ọ bụ ihe Onyenwe anyị, Onye pụrụ ime ihe niile kwuru.
I will shake [again the people of] all the nations, and as a result they will bring their treasures [to this temple]. I will fill this temple with [my] glory.
8 ‘Ọlaọcha niile na ọlaedo niile, bụ nke m.’ Ọ bụ ihe Onyenwe anyị, Onye pụrụ ime ihe niile kwupụtara.
The silver and the gold [that they own] are [really] mine, [so they will bring them to me].
9 ‘Ebube nke ụlọ a ga-adị ukwuu karịa ebube nke mbụ,’ ọ bụ ihe Onyenwe anyị, Onye pụrụ ime ihe niile kwuru. ‘Ọ bụkwa nʼebe a ka m ga-enye ọganihu na udo,’ otu a ka Onyenwe anyị, Onye pụrụ ime ihe niile kwubiri ya.”
[Then] this temple will be more glorious than the former/previous [temple was]. And I will cause things to go well for you all. [That will surely happen because I, ] the Commander of the armies of angels, have said it.”
10 Nʼụbọchị nke iri abụọ na anọ, nʼọnwa itoolu, nke afọ abụọ, nke ọchịchị eze Daraiọs, okwu Onyenwe anyị bịakwutere onye amụma, bụ Hegai.
On December 18 of that year, Yahweh gave [another] message to [me], the prophet Haggai.
11 “Ihe ndị a ka Onyenwe anyị, Onye pụrụ ime ihe niile kwuru, ‘Jụọ ndị nchụaja ihe iwu na-ekwu.
This is what the Commander of the armies of angels said to me: “Ask the priests [this question] about what is written in the laws [of Moses about sacrifices]:
12 Ọ bụrụ na mmadụ etinye anụ e doro nsọ nʼakpa uwe ya, ọ bụrụkwa na uwe ahụ anụ nsọ ahụ dị nʼime ya emetụ achịcha, maọbụ ofe, maọbụ nri ọzọ dị iche, mmetụ uwe ahụ metụrụ ha ọ ga-eme ka ha dịrị nsọ?’” Ndị nchụaja zara sị: “Mba!”
‘If one [of you priests takes from the altar some] meat that was sacrificed and is carrying it in his robes, if his robe touches [some] bread or stew or wine or [olive] oil or some other food, does that food also become (holy/acceptable for a sacrifice)?’” [When he said that to] the priests, they replied, “No.”
13 Mgbe ahụ Hegai kwukwara, “Ọ bụrụ na mmadụ emerụọ onwe ya site nʼimetụ onye nwụrụ anwụ aka, mesịa metụ otu nʼime ihe ndị a aka, ọ ga-abụ ihe rụrụ arụ?” Ndị nchụaja zara sị, “E, ọ ga-abụ ihe rụrụ arụ.”
Then Haggai asked them, “If someone becomes unacceptable to God by touching a corpse, and [then he] touches any of those foods, will the food [also] become unacceptable to God?” The priests replied, “Yes.”
14 Mgbe ahụ Hegai kwuru sị, “‘Otu a ka mba a na ndị bi nʼime ya dị nʼihu m. Ihe ọbụla aka ha rụpụtara na onyinye ọbụla ha nyere bụ ihe rụrụ arụ.’ Ọ bụ ihe Onyenwe anyị kwuru.
Then Haggai replied, “Yahweh says [this]: ‘It is the same with you people and with this nation. Everything that you do and [all the sacrifices] that you all offer are unacceptable to me [because of the sins that you have committed].
15 “‘Ma ugbu a, chezienụ echiche banyere ihe ndị ga-emenụ site taa gaa nʼihu. Tuleenụ otu ihe si dị tupu adọnye otu nkume nʼelu ibe ya nʼụlọnsọ ukwu nke Onyenwe anyị.
Think about what has been happening to you before you began to lay the foundation of my temple.
16 Kedụ ọnọdụ unu? Mgbe mmadụ bịara nʼebe o debere ọtụtụ iri efere ọka abụọ, ihe ọ na-ahụ bụ naanị ọtụtụ efere ọka iri. Ọ bụrụkwa na ọ bịa nʼebe ịnara mmanya ka o were iri ite mmanya ise, ọ bụ naanị iri ite mmanya abụọ ka ọ ga-enweta.
When you expected [to harvest] 20 bushels [of grain, you harvested] only ten bushels. When someone went to a [big] wine vat to get 50 gallons [of wine], there were only 20 [gallons in the vat].
17 Eji m ọrịa na-eripịa ihe ubi, na ọmụma ebu, na mkpụrụ mmiri igwe bibie ọrụ aka unu niile; ma unu alọghachikwuteghị m,’ ọ bụ ihe Onyenwe anyị kwupụtara.
I sent (blight/hot winds) and mildew and hail to destroy all your crops. But still you did not return to me.
18 ‘Ma site nʼụbọchị taa gaa nʼihu, site nʼụbọchị taa bụ iri ụbọchị anọ nke ọnwa itoolu, chenụ echiche banyere ụbọchị a bụ ụbọchị a tọrọ ntọala ụlọnsọ ukwu Onyenwe anyị. Chezienụ echiche banyere ya.
Starting from this day, December 18, the day when [you] have laid the foundation of my [new] temple, continue to think carefully [about your situation].
19 Ọ ka nwere mkpụrụ ọghịgha unu nwere nʼọba unu? Ọzọkwa, osisi vaịnị, osisi fiig, osisi pomegranet na osisi oliv amịghị mkpụrụ, ruo ugbu a. “‘Ma site nʼụbọchị taa gaa nʼihu aga m agọzi unu.’”
Is there now [RHQ] [any grain] seed left in your barns? [No, because you have eaten the small amount that you harvested]. And there is no fruit on your grapevines and fig trees and pomegranate [trees] and olive trees. But, from now on, I will bless you!’”
20 Okwu Onyenwe anyị bịakwutere Hegai nke ugboro abụọ, nʼụbọchị nke iri abụọ na anọ nke ọnwa ahụ, sị,
On that same day, Yahweh gave another message to me.
21 “Gwa Zerubabel, onye na-achị Juda sị ana m aga ịyọgharị eluigwe na ụwa.
[He said, ] “Tell Zerubbabel the governor of Judah that I am going to shake the sky and the earth.
22 Aga m akwatu ocheeze alaeze dị iche iche, ana m agakwa imebi ike alaeze nke mba dị iche iche. Aga m akwatu ụgbọ ịnyịnya nʼala na ndị na-anya ha; ịnyịnya na ndị na-agba ha ga-adakwa. Onye ọbụla ga-adakwa site na mma agha nke onye otu ya.
I will end the power of the kings of [many] nations [DOU]. I will cause their chariots and their drivers, their horses and [the soldiers] who are riding on them to be destroyed. [What will happen is that I will cause the soldiers] to kill each other with their swords.
23 “‘Nʼụbọchị ahụ,’ ka Onyenwe anyị, Onye pụrụ ime ihe niile na-ekwu, ‘Aga m ewere gị bụ onyeozi m Zerubabel nwa Shealtiel,’ ọ bụ ihe Onyenwe anyị kwuru, ‘mee gị ka ị dị ka mgbaaka akara m, nʼihi na ahọrọla m gị,’ Ọ bụ Onyenwe anyị, Onye pụrụ ime ihe niile na-ekwu.”
Zerubbabel, you serve [me well]. So [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, declare that [like kings wear] signet rings [to show that they have authority to rule people], I will appoint you and cause you [to have authority to rule]. I will do that because I have chosen you. [That will surely happen because I, ] the Commander of the armies of angels, have said it.”
