1 Gbasapụ aka gị nʼinye onyinye nʼihi na mgbe ọtụtụ ụbọchị gasịrị ị ga-anata ụgwọ ọrụ gị.
Cast thy bread upon the face of the waters; for after many days wilt thou find it again.
2 Kee akụ gị ụzọ asaa maọbụ ụzọ asatọ nʼihi na ị maghị ụdị ihe ndaba ọjọọ nwere ike ịbịakwasị gị nʼobodo.
Give a portion to seven, and also to eight: for thou knowest not what evil may come upon the earth.—
3 Mgbe eluigwe rujiri, mmiri ga-ezo; mgbe osisi dara, maọbụ nʼugwu maọbụ na ndịda, ebe ahụ ka ọ na-atọgbọ.
If the clouds be full of rain, they will empty it out upon the earth; and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, on the place where the tree falleth, there will it remain.
4 Onye na-ele ikuku anya agaghị akụ mkpụrụ ọbụla, onye na-ele igwe ojii anya agaghị ewe ihe ubi.
He that watcheth the wind will not sow; and he that gazeth on the clouds will not reap.
5 Dịka mmadụ na-apụghị ịmata ụzọ ikuku si aga maọbụ otu ndụ ọhụrụ si ebido nʼime afọ nwanyị dị ime, otu a ka o si dịrị ma mmadụ apụghị ịghọta ọrụ Chineke, onye mere ihe niile.
As thou knowest not which is the way of the wind, as little as what is enclosed in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou canst not know the works of God who maketh all.
6 Ghaa mkpụrụ gị nʼụtụtụ, esepụkwala aka nʼanyasị, nʼihi na ị maghị nke ga-eto, maọbụ nke a maọbụ nke ọzọ, ha niile nwere ike too nke ọma.
In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening let not thy hand rest; for thou knowest not which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both of them will be alike good.
7 Ìhè dị ụtọ, ọ na-amasịkwa anya ịhụ ìhè anyanwụ.
Truly the light is sweet, and it is a pleasant thing for the eyes to see the sun;
8 Ọ bụrụ na mmadụ adị ndụ ọtụtụ afọ, ya ṅụrịa nʼime ihe niile, ma ya cheta ụbọchị ọchịchịrị ga-adị ọtụtụ. Ihe niile ndị na-abịa bụ ihe efu.
For if a man live [even] many years, let him rejoice in them all; and let him remember the days of darkness; for they will be many; all that cometh is vanity.
9 Nwa okorobịa, ọ bụ ihe oke ọṅụ na ị bụ okorobịa. Ya mere, ka obi gị nye gị ọṅụ nʼụbọchị niile nke okorobịa gị. Mee ihe niile ị chọrọ ime; gbasookwa ihe niile nke anya gị na-ahụ. Kama, ghọtakwa nke a, na ị ghaghị ịza ajụjụ nʼihu Chineke nʼihi ihe niile i mere.
Rejoice, O young man, in thy childhood; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youthful vigor, and walk firmly in the ways of thy heart, and in [the direction which] thy eyes see: but know thou, that concerning all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
10 Ya mere, wezuga nchegbu site nʼobi, wezugakwa nsogbu nke ahụ gị, nʼihi na okorobịa na ịdị ike bụ ihe efu.
And remove vexation from thy heart, and cause evil to pass away from thy body; for childhood and the time when the head is black are vanity.
