1 Nʼoge ahụ mgbe ọnụọgụgụ ndị na-eso ụzọ ya bidoro ịmụba, ndị Juu na-asụ asụsụ Griik mere mkpesa megide ndị Juu na-asụ asụsụ Hibru nʼihi na a na-elefuru ndị inyom ha, ndị di ha nwụrụ anwụ anya na nri a na-eke kwa ụbọchị.
In those days, as the number of disciples was increasing, there occurred a murmuring of the Greeks against the Hebrews, because their widows were treated with disdain in the daily ministration.
2 Nʼihi nke a, ndị ozi iri na abụọ ahụ kpọrọ ọgbakọ ndị niile na-eso ụzọ ya sị, “O zighị ezi na anyị ga-ahapụ ikwusa oziọma Chineke bido na-eke nri.
And so the twelve, calling together the multitude of the disciples, said: “It is not fair for us to leave behind the Word of God to serve at tables also.
3 Ụmụnna anyị, sitenụ nʼetiti unu họpụta ndị ikom asaa ndị a na-agbara ezi ama na ha jupụtara na Mmụọ Nsọ na amamihe. Anyị ga-enyefe ha ọrụ a nʼaka.
Therefore, brothers, search among yourselves for seven men of good testimony, filled with the Holy Spirit and with wisdom, whom we may appoint over this work.
4 Ebe anyị onwe anyị, ga-enyefe onwe anyị nʼọrụ ikpe ekpere, na ọrụ niile metụtara izisa oziọma.”
Yet truly, we will be continually in prayer and in the ministry of the Word.”
5 Mmadụ niile nabatara atụmatụ a nke ọma. Ha họpụtara Stivin, nwoke jupụtara nʼokwukwe na Mmụọ Nsọ. Ha họpụtakwara Filip, Prokorọs, Nikanọ, Timọn, Pamenas na Nikolas, onye Antiọk na-eso ụzọ ofufe ndị Juu.
And the plan pleased the entire multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and with the Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicolas, a new arrival from Antioch.
6 Ha chere mmadụ ndị a nʼihu ndị ozi, ndị kpeere ha ekpere, bikwasịkwa ha aka nʼisi.
These they set before the sight of the Apostles, and while praying, they imposed hands on them.
7 Okwu Chineke gbasara nnọọ. Ọnụọgụgụ ndị na-eso ụzọ ya na Jerusalem bakwara ụba. Nʼoge a, ọtụtụ ndị nchụaja nabatara na-erubekwa isi nʼokwukwe.
And the Word of the Lord was increasing, and the number of disciples in Jerusalem was multiplied exceedingly. And even a large group of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8 Ugbu a, Stivin, nwoke jupụtara nʼamara na nʼike Chineke rụrụ ọtụtụ ọrụ ebube na ọrụ ịrịbama dị ukwuu nʼetiti ndị mmadụ.
Then Stephen, filled with grace and fortitude, wrought great signs and miracles among the people.
But certain ones, from the synagogue of the so-called Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those who were from Cilicia and Asia rose up and were disputing with Stephen.
10 Ma ha enweghị ike iguzogide amamihe na ike nke Mmụọ Nsọ nke o ji ekwu okwu.
But they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.
11 Mgbe ahụ, ha ji ụzọ nzuzo kpalie ụfọdụ ndị ikom ka ha sị, “Anyị nụrụ ka ọ na-ekwujọ Mosis na Chineke.”
Then they suborned men who were to claim that they had heard him speaking words of blasphemy against Moses and against God.
12 Ha kpasuru ndị mmadụ, ma ndị okenye ma ndị ozizi iwu. Ha bịakwutere ya jide ya, kpụrụ ya gaa na nnọkọ ụlọ ikpe.
And thus did they stir up the people and the elders and the scribes. And hurrying together, they seized him and brought him to the council.
13 Ha kpọtakwara ndị bịara gbaa ama ụgha megide ya sị, “Oge niile ka nwoke a na-ekwu okwu ọjọọ banyere ebe a dị nsọ na iwu anyị.
And they set up false witnesses, who said: “This man does not cease to speak words against the holy place and the law.
14 Anyị nụrụ ka o kwuru, na Jisọs onye Nazaret a ga-akwatu ụlọ a, gbanwekwa omenaala Mosis nyere anyị.”
For we have heard him saying that this Jesus the Nazarene will destroy this place and will change the traditions, which Moses handed down to us.”
15 Ndị niile nọ nʼụlọikpe ahụ legidere ya anya. Ha hụrụ ihu ya ka ọ na-enwu dị ka ihu mmụọ ozi.
And all those who were sitting in the council, gazing at him, saw his face, as if it had become the face of an Angel.
