< 1 Samuel 17 >
1 Nʼoge a, ndị Filistia chịkọtara ndị agha ha ọnụ, zukọtaa nʼobodo Sokoh nke dị na Juda maka ibu agha. Ha mara ụlọ ikwu ha nʼEfes Damim, nke dị nʼagbata Sokoh na Azeka.
Now the Philistines got their armies together for war, and came together at Socoh in the land of Judah, and took up their position between Socoh and Azekah in Ephes-dammim.
2 Mgbe ahụ, Sọl na ndị Izrel niile zukọtara maa ụlọ ikwu nke ha na ndagwurugwu Ịla. Ha doro onwe ha nʼusoro agha izute ndị Filistia.
And Saul and the men of Israel came together and took up their position in the valley of Elah, and put their forces in order against the Philistines.
3 Ndị Filistia doro onwe ha nʼelu ugwu nʼotu akụkụ, ma ndị Izrel dokwara onwe ha nʼelu ugwu nʼakụkụ nke ọzọ. Ndagwurugwu dịkwa nʼetiti ha.
The Philistines were stationed on the mountain on one side and Israel on the mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
4 Mgbe ahụ, otu onye ọka agha aha ya bụ Golaịat, onye obodo Gat, sitere nʼetiti ụlọ ikwu ndị Filistia pụta. Nwoke a toro ogologo nke ukwuu; ịdị ogologo ya ga-erukwa mita atọ.
And a fighter came out from the tents of the Philistines, named Goliath of Gath; he was more than six cubits tall.
5 O kpu okpu agha e ji bronz kpụọ, ma yiri uwe agha nke ịdị arọ bronz e ji kpụọ ya ga-erukwa iri kilogram ise na asaa.
And he had a head-dress of brass on his head, and he was dressed in a coat of metal, the weight of which was five thousand shekels of brass.
6 O yikwa ihe agha o ji kpuchie ụkwụ ya abụọ nke e ji bronz kpụọ, nyakwasịkwa nʼubu ya ùbe e ji bronz kpụọ.
His legs were covered with plates of brass and hanging on his back was a javelin of brass.
7 A kpụrụ ùbe ya ka ọ dịrị ka osisi e ji ekwe akwa, jiri igwe ịdị arọ ya ga-eru kilogram asaa kpụọ ọnụ ọnụ ùbe ahụ. Onye na-ebu ọta o ji ekpuchi obi ya nọkwa nʼihu ya.
The stem of his spear was as long as a cloth-worker's rod, and its head was made of six hundred shekels' weight of iron: and one went before him with his body-cover.
8 Golaịat guzoro kpọkuo ndị agha Izrel sị ha, “Gịnị mere unu ga-eji pụta guzo nʼusoro ibu agha. Ọ bụ na m abụghị onye Filistia? Ọ bụkwa na unu onwe unu abụghị ndị ozi Sọl? Họpụtaranụ onwe unu otu nwoke, ka ọ bịakwute m.
He took up his position and in a loud voice said to the armies of Israel, Why have you come out to make war? Am I not a Philistine and you servants of Saul? Send out a man for yourselves and let him come down to me.
9 Ọ bụrụ na onye ahụ unu họpụtara etigbuo m, anyị ga-abụrụ unu ndị ohu, ma ọ bụrụkwanụ na m etigbuo ya, unu ga-abụrụ anyị ndị ohu!”
If he is able to have a fight with me and overcome me, then we will be your servants: but if I am able to overcome him, then you will be our servants and do work for us.
10 Mgbe ahụ, onye Filistia ahụ sịrị, “Taa, ana m ama usuu ndị agha Izrel aka nʼihu! Kpọpụtaranụ m otu nwoke ka mụ na ya lụọ ọgụ.”
And the Philistine said, I have put to shame the armies of Israel this day; give me a man so that we may have a fight together.
11 Mgbe Sọl na ndị agha Izrel nụrụ ihe onye Filistia a kwuru, ha mara jijiji tụọkwa oke egwu.
And Saul and all Israel, hearing those words of the Philistine, were troubled and full of fear.
12 Ma Devid bụ nwa Jesi, onye Efrat nke Betlehem dị na Juda. Jesi mụtara ndị ikom asatọ. Nʼoge nke Sọl, ọ ghọọla agadi nwoke.
Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth-lehem-judah named Jesse, who had eight sons; and he was an old man in Saul's day, and far on in years.
13 Atọ nʼime ụmụ ndị ikom Jesi, ndị bụ okenye, soro Sọl gaa agha. Aha ha bụ Eliab, ọkpara ya, Abinadab, nwa nke abụọ na Shama, nwa nke atọ.
And the three oldest sons of Jesse had gone with Saul to the fight: the names of the three who went to the fight were Eliab, the oldest, and Abinadab the second, and Shammah the third.
14 Devid bụ ọdụdụ nwa. Ụmụnne ya ndị okenye atọ na-eso Sọl.
And David was the youngest: and the three oldest were with Saul's army.
15 Ma Devid na-apụ jekwuru Sọl, ma na-alaghachikwa nʼụlọ ịzụ atụrụ nna ya na Betlehem.
Now David went to and from Saul, looking after his father's sheep at Beth-lehem.
16 Golaịat, onye Filistia na-abịaru nso ụtụtụ na uhuruchi, na-eguzo onwe ya otu a iri ụbọchị anọ.
And the Philistine came near every morning and evening for forty days.
17 Otu ụbọchị, Jesi gwara Devid okwu sị, “Bịa ka i wegara ụmụnne gị otu akpa ọka ndị a e ghere eghe. Chịrịkwa ogbe achịcha iri ndị a chịlara ha.
And Jesse said to his son David, Take now for your brothers an ephah of this dry grain and these ten cakes of bread, and go quickly with them to the tents to your brothers;
18 Wegakwara onyeisi usuu ha, iri chiizi, ndị a. Chọpụta otu ihe si agara ụmụnne gị natakwa ha ihe ị ga-egosi anyị na ha dị ndụ.”
And take these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how your brothers are and come back with a sign to say how they are.
19 Ha na Sọl na ndị ikom Izrel niile, nọ na ndagwurugwu Ịla, na-ebuso ndị Filistia agha.
Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
20 Devid biliri njem nʼisi ụtụtụ, hapụ igwe atụrụ ya nʼaka onye na-elekọta atụrụ, buru onyinye ndị ahụ gawa dịka Jesi nyere ya nʼiwu. Ọ bịarutere ụlọ ikwu ndị Izrel mgbe ha na-apụ nʼihu agha, ha na-etikwa mkpu agha.
And David got up early in the morning, and, giving the sheep into the care of a keeper, took the things and went as Jesse had said; and he came to the lines where the carts were, when the army was going out to the fight giving their war-cry.
21 Ndị Izrel na ndị Filistia dokwara onwe ha nʼusoro izute onwe ha nʼagha, ndị agha megide ndị agha.
And Israel and the Philistines had put their forces in position, army against army.
22 Devid hapụrụ ihe ndị ahụ nʼaka onye na-elekọta akpa niile, gbara ọsọ gaa nʼusoro ndị agha jụọ ụmụnne ya banyere udo ha.
And David gave his parcels into the hands of the keeper of the army stores, and went running to the army and came to his brothers to get knowledge about them.
23 Ma mgbe ha na ya nọ na-akparịta ụka, onye mmeri nʼọgbọ agha, onye Filistia nke Gat, Golaịat bụ aha ya, sitere nʼusoro ndị agha Filistia pụta, kwuokwa okwu niile ahụ dịka ọ na-ekwu na mbụ. Devid nụrụ ihe o kwuru.
And while he was talking to them, the fighter, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, came out from the Philistines' lines and said the same words, in David's hearing.
24 Mgbe ndị Izrel niile hụrụ nwoke a, ha gbara ọsọ pụọ nʼihu ya ma tụọkwa oke egwu.
And all the men of Israel, when they saw him, went in flight, overcome with fear.
25 Ndị Izrel sịrị, “Unu hụrụ nwoke a na-eguzo onwe ya? Ọ bụ ka ọ kparịa nnọọ ndị Izrel ka o ji apụta? Eze kwere nkwa inye onye ọbụla ga-etigbu ya akụ nʼebe ọ bara ụba. Ọ ga-akpọnyekwa ya nwa ya nwanyị ka ọ bụrụ nwunye ya, meekwa ka ndị ezinaụlọ onye ahụ gharakwa ịtụ ụtụ taks ọzọ nʼIzrel!”
And the men of Israel said, Have you seen this man? Clearly he has come out to put shame on Israel: and it is certain that if any man overcomes him, the king will give that man great wealth, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's family free in Israel.
26 Devid jụrụ ndị ikom nọ ya nso, “Gịnị ka a ga-emere nwoke ga-etigbu onye Filistia a, meekwa ka mkparị a ghara ịdịrị Izrel ọzọ? Onye ka onye Filistia a a na-ebighị ugwu bụ, na ọ ga-apụta na-akparị ndị agha Chineke dị ndụ?”
And David said to the men near him, What will be done to the man who overcomes this Philistine and takes away the shame from Israel? for who is this Philistine, a man without circumcision, that he has put shame on the armies of the living God?
27 Ha gwara ya otu ihe ahụ ha kwuru na mbụ sị ya na ọ bụ ihe ahụ ka a ga-emere onye gburu ya.
And the people gave him this answer, So it will be done to the man who overcomes him.
28 Mgbe Eliab, nwanne Devid nke okenye, nụrụ ka ya na ndị ikom ahụ na-ekwu okwu, o were iwe dị ọkụ megide ya, jụọ ya sị, “Gịnị ka ị bịara ime nʼebe a? Onye kwa ka ị hapụrụ atụrụ ole na ole ndị ahụ nʼọzara? Amaara m ụdị nganga dị nʼime gị na echiche ọjọọ juru gị obi. Ihe ị ji bịa nʼebe a bụ naanị ka ịhụchata ihe na-eme nʼagha.”
And Eliab, his oldest brother, hearing what David said to the men, was moved to wrath against David, and said, Why have you come here? Into whose care have you given that little flock of sheep in the waste land? I have knowledge of your pride and the evil of your heart, you have come down to see the fight.
29 Ma Devid zara sị ya, “Oleekwanụ ihe m mere ugbu a? Adara m iwu nʼihi na m jụrụ ajụjụ?”
And David said, What have I done now? was it not only a word?
30 Devid chigharịkwara jekwuru onye ọzọ jụọkwa ya otu ajụjụ ahụ. Ọ natakwara otu ụdị ọsịsa ahụ.
And turning away from him to one of the other men, he said the same words: and the people gave him the same answer.
31 Nʼikpeazụ, mgbe a matara ihe bụ uche Devid, e mere ka Sọl mara ihe banyere Devid. Sọl zikwara ozi ka a kpọọ ya.
And, hearing what David said, they gave Saul word of it: and he sent for him.
32 Devid sịrị Sọl, “Ka obi onye ọbụla ghara ịda mba nʼihi onye Filistia a; ohu gị ga-aga lụso ya ọgụ.”
And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart become feeble because of him; I, your servant, will go out and have a fight with this Philistine.
33 Ma Sọl zaghachiri, “Ị pụghị ibuso onye Filistia a agha, megide ya, nʼihi na i bụ naanị nwantakịrị, ma ya onwe ya bu onye na-ebu agha siterị na mgbe ọ bụ okorobịa.”
And Saul said to David, You are not able to go out against this Philistine and have a fight with him: for you are only a boy, and he has been a man of war from his earliest days.
34 Ma Devid gwara Sọl sị, “Ohu gị bụ onye na-elekọta atụrụ nna ya. Mgbe ọdụm maọbụ anụ ọhịa bịa bịara buru atụrụ site nʼigwe atụrụ ahụ,
And David said to Saul, Your servant has been keeper of his father's sheep; and if a lion or a bear came and took a lamb from the flock,
35 achụụrụ m ya, tigbuo ya ma napụtakwa atụrụ ahụ site nʼọnụ ya. Mgbe o biliri imegide m, ejidere m ya nʼajị ya, tie ya ihe, gbuo ya.
I went out after him, and overcame him, and took it out of his mouth: and if, turning on me, he came at me, I took him by the hair and overcame him and put him to death.
36 Etigburu m ọdụm na anụ ọhịa bịa ahụ, ugbu a, apụkwara m ime onye Filistia a na-amaghị Chineke otu ihe ahụ, nʼihi na ọ kparịala usuu ndị agha Chineke dị ndụ!
Your servant has overcome lion and bear: and the fate of this Philistine, who is without circumcision, will be like theirs, seeing that he has put shame on the armies of the living God.
37 Onyenwe anyị ahụ napụtara m site nʼaka ọdụm na anụ ọhịa bịa ga-anapụtakwa m site nʼaka onye Filistia a!” Nʼikpeazụ, Sọl sịrị Devid, “Gaa, ka Onyenwe anyị nọnyere gị.”
And David said, The Lord, who kept me safe from the grip of the lion and the bear, will be my saviour from the hands of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go! and may the Lord be with you.
38 Mgbe ahụ, Sọl yinyere Devid uwe ime ahụ nke ya, yikwasịkwa ya uwe agha igwe, ma kpukwasị ya okpu bronz nʼisi.
Then Saul gave David his clothing of war, and put a head-dress of brass on his head and had him clothed with a coat of metal.
39 Devid fanyere mma agha nʼime uwe ahụ, malite ijegharị ije, nʼihi na ọ maghị otu e si eyi uwe ndị ahụ ejegharị. Ọ dịghị anya, o gwara Sọl okwu sị, “Agaghị m eyi uwe ndị a nʼihi na o doghị m ahụ.” Ya mere, Devid yipụrụ ha.
And David took Saul's sword and put the band round him over the metal coat, and was unable to go forward; for he was not used to them. Then David said to Saul, It is not possible for me to go out with these, for I am not used to them. So David took them off.
Then he took his stick in his hand, and got five smooth stones from the bed of the stream and put them in a bag such as is used by sheep-keepers; and in his hand was a leather band used for sending stones: and so he went in the direction of the Philistine.
41 Onye Filistia ahụ, na-abịa nso na-apụkwute Devid, onye ahụ na-ebu ọta ya na-agakwa nʼihu ya.
And the Philistine came nearer to David; and the man who had his body-cover went before him.
42 O lere Devid anya hụ na ọ bụ naanị nwantakịrị nwoke, onye ahụ dị mma, onye mara mma ile anya. Nʼihi ya, o ledara Devid anya.
And when the Philistine, taking note, saw David, he had a poor opinion of him: for he was only a boy, red-haired and good-looking.
43 Ọ sịrị Devid, “Abụ m nkịta, na i ji mkpanaka na-abịakwute m?” Onye Filistia ahụ ji aha chi niile ya bụọ Devid ọnụ.
And the Philistine said to David, Am I a dog, that you come out to me with sticks? And the Philistine put curses on David by all his gods.
44 Ọ sịrị, “Bịa nʼebe a ka m were anụ ahụ gị mere anụ ufe nke eluigwe na anụ ọhịa niile ihe oriri!”
And the Philistine said to David, Come here to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field.
45 Ma Devid sịrị onye Filistia ahụ, “I ji mma agha na ùbe igwe na ùbe osisi, na-abịakwute m, ma eji m aha Onyenwe anyị, Onye pụrụ ime ihe niile, Chineke nke usuu ndị agha Izrel ahụ ị kparịrị, na-abịakwute gị.
Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword and a spear and a javelin: but I come to you in the name of the Lord of armies, the God of the armies of Israel on which you have put shame.
46 Taa ka Onyenwe anyị ga-enyefe gị nʼaka m. Aga m etigbu gị, bepụkwa gị isi. Taa aga m ewere anụ ahụ ndị agha Filistia niile nyefee nʼaka ụmụ anụ ufe niile nke eluigwe, na ụmụ anụ ọhịa niile nke ụwa. Ụwa niile ga-amatakwa na Chineke nọ nʼIzrel.
This day the Lord will give you up into my hands, and I will overcome you, and take your head off you; and I will give the bodies of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth today, so that all the earth may see that Israel has a God;
47 Ndị niile guzokwa nʼebe a ga-amata na Onyenwe anyị adịghị eji mma agha maọbụ ùbe azọpụta. Nʼihi na agha a bụ nke Onyenwe anyị, ọ ga-ewerekwa unu niile nyefee anyị nʼaka.”
And all these people who are here today may see that the Lord does not give salvation by sword and spear: for the fight is the Lord's, and he will give you up into our hands.
48 Mgbe onye Filistia ahụ na-abịa nso ibuso ya agha, Devid jiri ọsọ gbara gaa nʼihu agha izute ya.
Now when the Philistine made a move and came near to David, David quickly went at a run in the direction of the army, meeting the Philistine face to face.
49 Ọ manyere aka nʼime akpa ya wepụta otu nkume, maa ya mata onye Filistia ahụ nʼegedege ihu. Nkume ahụ mikpuru nʼegedege ihu ya, ọ dakwara kpuo ihu nʼala.
And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone and sent it from his leather band straight at the Philistine, and the stone went deep into his brow, and he went down to the earth, falling on his face.
50 Otu a ka Devid si jiri ebe na nkume merie onye Filistia ahụ. O gburu onye Filistia ahụ ma o jighị mma ọbụla nʼaka ya gbuo ya.
So David overcame the Philistine with his leather band and a stone, wounding the Philistine and causing his death: but David had no sword in his hand.
51 Devid gbaara ọsọ jeruo nʼebe Golaịat dara, mịịrị mma agha ya site nʼọbọ, jiri ya gbuo ya. O ji ya bepụkwa isi ya! Mgbe ndị Filistia hụrụ na onye ọka agha ha adaala nwụọ, ha tụgharịrị gbawa ọsọ.
So running up to the Philistine and putting his foot on him, David took his sword out of its cover, and put him to death, cutting off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw that their fighter was dead, they went in flight.
52 Mgbe ahụ, ndị agha Izrel na Juda tiri mkpu ọṅụ, biliekwa, malite ịchụ ndị Filistia ọsọ. Ha chụrụ ha ọsọ chụruo ha nʼọnụ ụzọ ama Gat, na nʼọnụ ụzọ ama Ekrọn. Ndị Filistia nwụrụ anwụ dara nnọọ aghara aghara nʼụzọ Shaaraim nke gawara Gat na Ekrọn.
And the men of Israel and of Judah got up, and gave a cry, and went after the Philistines as far as Gath and the town doors of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines were falling down by the road from Shaaraim all the way to Gath and Ekron.
53 Emesịa, ndị Izrel lọghachiri bịa kwakọrọ ihe niile dị nʼụlọ ikwu ndị Filistia, nke ha hapụrụ gbaa ọsọ.
Then the children of Israel came back from going after the Philistines, and took their goods from the tents.
54 Devid buuru isi onye Filistia bulata na Jerusalem. Ma dobe ngwa agha onye Filistia ahụ nʼime ụlọ ikwu nke ya.
And David took the head of the Philistine to Jerusalem, but the metal war-dress and the arms he put in his tent.
55 Mgbe Sọl nọ na-ele Devid anya ka ọ na-apụ izute onye Filistia ahụ, ọ sịrị Abna, ọchịagha ya, “Abna, nwa onye ka nwokorobịa ahụ bụ?” Abna zara sị, “Dịka i si adị ndụ, eze, amaghị m.”
And when Saul saw David going out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the army, Abner, whose son is this young man? And Abner said, On your life, O king, I have no idea.
56 Eze zara sị, “Chọpụta onye mụrụ nwokorobịa a.”
And the king said, Make search and see whose son this young man is.
57 Mgbe Devid si nʼigbu onye Filistia ahụ lọghachi, Abna duuru ya, dute ya nʼihu Sọl. Isi onye Filistia a dịkwa nʼaka Devid.
And when David was coming back after the destruction of the Philistine, Abner took him to Saul, with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
58 Sọl jụrụ ya sị, “Nwokorobịa, nwa onye ka ị bụ?” Devid zara sị, “Abụ m nwa ohu gị nwoke Jesi onye Betlehem.”
And Saul said to him, Young man, whose son are you? And David in answer said, I am the son of your servant Jesse of Beth-lehem.
