1 Ndị enyi m hụrụ nʼanya, unu ekwenyela okwu mmụọ niile, kama nwaleenụ mmụọ niile ahụ i mata ma ha si na Chineke, nʼihi na ọtụtụ ndị amụma ụgha apụọla baa nʼime ụwa.
Dear friends, don't trust every spirit, but put the spirits to the test to find out whether they're from God, for there are many false prophets out there in the world.
2 Otu a ka unu ga-esi mata Mmụọ nke Chineke: Mmụọ ọbụla nke na-ekwupụta na Jisọs Kraịst abịala nʼanụ ahụ sitere na Chineke.
How can you recognize God's Spirit? Every spirit that accepts Jesus Christ came with a human body is from God;
3 Ma mmụọ ọbụla nke na-adịghị ekwupụta Jisọs esiteghị na Chineke, mmụọ dị otu a bụ nke onye ahụ na-emegide Kraịst nke unu nụrụ na ọ ga-abịa, ma ugbu a ọ bịala nʼụwa.
while every spirit that doesn't accept Jesus, that spirit isn't from God. In fact it is the spirit of the antichrist which you heard was coming, and which is already in the world.
4 Ụmụntakịrị m, unu bụ ndị sitere na Chineke, unu emeriekwala ha nʼihi na onye ahụ nke bi nʼime unu dị ukwuu karịa onye ahụ nọ nʼime ụwa.
But you belong to God, my friends, and you have defeated them, for the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
5 Nʼihi na ndị a si nʼime ụwa pụta. Ya mere, ihe ha na-ekwu okwu ya bụ naanị ihe banyere ụwa. Ụwa na-aṅakwa ha ntị.
They belong to the world, so they speak like people of the world, and the world listens to them.
We belong to God and whoever knows God listens to us, while whoever doesn't belong to God doesn't listen to us. This is how we can distinguish the spirit of truth from the spirit of deception.
7 Ndị m hụrụ nʼanya, o kwesiri ka anyị hụrịtaa onwe anyị nʼanya, nʼihi na ịhụnanya na-esi nʼebe Chineke nọ abịa. Onye ọbụla nwere ịhụnanya bụ onye amụrụ site na Chineke, ọ makwara Chineke.
Dear friends, let's go on loving one another, for love comes from God. All those who love are born of God and know God.
8 Onye na-enweghị ịhụnanya amaghị Chineke, nʼihi na Chineke bụ ịhụnanya.
Those who don't love don't know God, for God is love.
9 E siri otu a mee ka ịhụnanya Chineke nʼebe anyị nọ pụta ìhè: Chineke zitere naanị otu Ọkpara ya nʼụwa ka anyị nwee ndụ site na ya.
How was God's love shown to us? God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we could live through him.
10 Nke a bụ ihe a na-akpọ ịhụnanya, ọ bụghị na anyị hụrụ Chineke nʼanya kama na ọ hụrụ anyị nʼanya ma zite Ọkpara ya dịka aja nke juru ya obi maka mmehie niile anyị.
This is love! It's not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and he sent his Son to be the reconciliation for our sins.
11 Ndị m hụrụ nʼanya, ebe ọ bụ na Chineke si otu a hụ anyị nʼanya, anyị kwesiri ịhụrịta onwe anyị nʼanya.
Friends, if this is the way God loves us, we ought to love one another like this too.
12 O nwebeghị mgbe ọbụla anyị ji anya anyị hụ Chineke anya, ma ọ bụrụ na anyị ahụ ibe anyị nʼanya, Chineke na-ebi nʼime anyị. A na-emekwa ka ịhụnanya ya zuo oke nʼime anyị.
No one has ever seen God. However, if we love one another then God lives in us, and his love is fulfilled in us.
13 O tinyekwala Mmụọ Nsọ ya nʼime anyị igosi anyị na o bi nʼime anyị, na anyị bikwa nʼime ya.
How can we know that we live in him, and that he lives in us? He's given us the ability to love by his Spirit.
14 Ma anyị onwe anyị ahụla ma na-agbakwa ama na Nna ahụ zitere Ọkpara ya ka ọ bụrụ Onye nzọpụta nke ụwa.
For we are witnesses to what we have seen and testify that the Father sent the Son as the Savior of the world.
15 Chineke bi nʼime onye ọbụla nke na-ekwupụta na Jisọs bụ Ọkpara Chineke. Onye dị otu a bikwa nʼime Chineke.
God lives in everyone who declares that Jesus is the Son of God, and they live in God.
16 Anyị maara ma kwerekwa nʼịhụnanya Chineke nwere nʼebe anyị nọ. Chineke bụ ịhụnanya. Onye ọ bụlakwa na-ebi ndụ ịhụnanya na-anọgide nʼime Chineke. Chineke nʼonwe ya na-ebinyekwara onye dị otu a.
We have experienced and trusted in the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who live in love, live in God, and God lives in them.
17 Nʼụzọ dị otu a, a na-eme ka ịhụnanya zuo oke nʼetiti anyị, ka anyị nwee ike inwe nkwuwa okwu nʼụbọchị ikpe ahụ, nʼihi na dịka ya onwe ya dị, otu a ka anyị onwe anyị dịkwa nʼụwa nke a.
This is how love is made complete in us so that we can be confident on judgment day: by the fact that we live just like him in this world.
18 Ịtụ egwu adịghị nʼebe ịhụnanya dị, kama ịhụnanya zuruoke na-achụpụ egwu nʼihi na egwu na ntaramahụhụ na-arụkọ ọrụ, onye ọbụla nke na-atụ egwu bụ onye na-ezubeghị oke nʼịhụnanya.
Where there is love there can be no fear. God loves us completely, and this love drives all our fears away. If we do fear, it's because we fear being punished, and this shows that we have not been fully re-made by the completeness of God's love.
19 Anyị hụrụ ya nʼanya nʼihi na o buru ụzọ hụ anyị nʼanya.
We love because he loved us first.
20 Onye ọbụla na-asị, “Ahụrụ m Chineke nʼanya,” ma nọgide na-akpọ nwanna ya asị, onye ahụ bụ onye ụgha. Nʼihi na ọ bụrụ na ọ hụghị nwanna ya nʼanya, bụ onye ọ na-ahụ anya kwa ụbọchị, ọ pụghị ịhụ Chineke nʼanya bụ onye ọ na-ahụbeghị anya.
Anyone who says, “I love God,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, is a liar. Anyone who doesn't love a brother whom they can see, can't love God whom they can't see.
21 Iwu o nyere anyị bụ, “Onye ọbụla hụrụ Chineke nʼanya aghakwaghị ịhụ nwanna ya nʼanya.”
This is the command he gave to us: those who love God love their brothers and sisters too.
