1 Lee ụdị oke ịhụnanya nke Nna ahụ nwere nʼebe anyị nọ, na-aga akpọ anyị ụmụ Chineke. Nʼezie, nke a bụ ihe anyị bụ. Ihe mere na ụwa amaghị anyị bụ nʼihi na ọ maghị ya.
See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.
2 Ndị hụrụ nʼanya, ugbu a anyị abụrụla ụmụ Chineke. Ọ bụ ezie na anyị enweghị ike ịghọta ihe ọnọdụ anyị ga-abụ nʼoge dị nʼihu, ma anyị maara nke ọma na mgbe a ga-eme ka ọ pụta ìhè, a ga-emekwa ka anyị bụrụ ndị yiri ya, nʼihi na anyị ga-ahụ ya dịka ọ dị.
Beloved, now we are children of God. It is not yet revealed what we will be; but we know that when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him just as he is.
3 Onye ọbụla nwere olileanya dị otu a kwesiri idebe onwe ya ọcha, dị ka ya onwe ya dị ọcha.
Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
4 Onye ọbụla na-eme mmehie na-emebi iwu. Nʼezie mmehie bụ mmebi iwu.
Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.
You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and no sin is in him.
6 Onye ọbụla na-anọgide nʼime ya adịghị ebi ndụ ime mmehie, onye ọbụla nke na-ebi ndụ mmehie ahụbeghị ya anya mgbe ọbụla, ọ matabekwaghị ya.
Whoever remains in him doesn’t sin. Whoever sins hasn’t seen him and doesn’t know him.
7 Ezigbo ụmụ m, unu ekwela ka onye ọbụla duhie unu, onye ọbụla na-eme ezi ihe bụ onye ezi omume dị ka ya onwe ya bụ onye ezi omume.
Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 Onye ọbụla na-eme mmehie bụ nwa ekwensu, nʼihi na ekwensu bụ onye mmehie site na mmalite. Ihe mere Ọkpara Chineke jiri pụta ìhè bụ ka ọ laa ọrụ niile nke ekwensu nʼiyi.
He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed: that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Onye a mụrụ site na Chineke adịghị anọgide na-eme mmehie, nʼihi na mkpụrụ Chineke na-anọgide nʼime ya, ha enweghị ike ịnọgide na-eme mmehie, nʼihi na a mụrụ ha site na Chineke.
Whoever is born of God doesn’t commit sin, because his seed remains in him, and he can’t sin, because he is born of God.
10 Otu a ka anyị si amata ndị bụ ụmụ Chineke, na ndị bụ ụmụ ekwensu: Onye ọbụla na-adịghị eme ihe ziri ezi abụghị nwa Chineke, otu a ka ọ dịkwa onye na-adịghị ahụ ụmụnna ha nʼanya.
In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn’t do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn’t love his brother.
For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another—
unlike Cain, who was of the evil one and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.
14 Anyị matara na anyị esitela nʼọnwụ baa na ndụ nʼihi na anyị na-ahụ ụmụnna anyị nʼanya. Onye ọbụla na-adịghị ahụ ibe ya nʼanya na-anọgide nʼọnwụ.
We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death.
15 Onye ọbụla na-akpọ nwanna ya asị bụ ogbu mmadụ, unu matakwara na o nweghị onye ọbụla bụ ogbu mmadụ nwere ndụ ebighị ebi nʼime ya. (aiōnios g166)
Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him. (aiōnios g166)
16 Ọ bụ otu a ka anyị sị mata ihe bụ ịhụnanya, na Jisọs tọgbọrọ ndụ ya nʼihi anyị. Anyị kwesikwara ịtọgbọ ndụ anyị nʼihi ụmụnna anyị.
By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
17 Ọ bụrụ na onye ọbụla nwere akụ nke ụwa, ahụ nwanna ya ka ọ nọ na mkpa ma o nweghị obi ebere nʼebe ọ nọ, olee otu ịhụnanya Chineke si dịrị nʼime ya?
But whoever has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, then closes his heart of compassion against him, how does God’s love remain in him?
18 Ụmụntakịrị m, ka ịhụnanya anyị ghara ịbụ naanị nʼegbugbere ọnụ maọbụ nke okwu efu, kama ka ọ bụrụ nke sitere nʼeziokwu nakwa nʼomume anyị.
My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
19 Anyị ga-esitekwa na nke a mata na anyị bụ ndị nke eziokwu ahụ ma matakwa otu anyị ga-esi mee ka obi anyị kwenye nʼihu ya.
And by this we know that we are of the truth and persuade our hearts before him,
20 Nʼihi na ọ bụrụ na obi anyị amaa anyị ikpe, Chineke dị ukwuu karịa obi anyị, ọ mazukwara ihe niile.
because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
21 Ndị m hụrụ nʼanya, ọ bụrụ na obi anyị amaghị anyị ikpe, anyị nwere nkwuwa okwu nʼihu Chineke
Beloved, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have boldness towards God;
so whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
23 Nke a bụkwa iwu ya: ka anyị kwere nʼaha Ọkpara ya Jisọs Kraịst, ya na ịhụrịta ibe anyị nʼanya dịka o nyere anyị nʼiwu.
This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.
He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
