Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 Nʼime igwe ojii ahụ, na nʼime osimiri ahụ e tinyere ha niile na baptizim, dịka ndị na-eso ụzọ Mosis.
and were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 Ha niile rikwara ihe oriri nke mmụọ ahụ.
and all ate the same spiritual food;
4 Ha ṅụkwara mmiri mmụọ ahụ, mmiri sitere nʼoke nkume mmụọ ahụ, nke na-eso ha. Oke nkume ahụ bụ Kraịst nʼonwe ya.
and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.
5 Nʼihe ndị a niile, omume ha amasịghị Chineke. Nʼihi nke a, ọ lara ha nʼiyi nʼime ọzara.
However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 Ugbu a, ihe ndị a niile bụkwa ihe ịdọ aka na ntị nye anyị, ka anyị hapụ ịbụ ndị agụụ ime ihe ọjọọ na-agụ dịka ha.
Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.
7 Unu abụla ndị na-ekpere arụsị dịka ụfọdụ ha mere. Dịka e dere ya, “Ndị a nọdụrụ ala iri ihe na ịṅụ ihe ọṅụṅụ, biliekwa ọtọ gwurie egwu ime onwe ha obi ụtọ.”
Don’t be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”
8 Ka anyị ghara ịkwa iko dịka ụfọdụ nʼime ha mere, iri puku mmadụ abụọ na atọ nʼime ha nwụọ nʼotu ụbọchị.
Let’s not commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell.
9 Ka anyị hapụ ịnwa Kraịst ọnwụnwa dịka ụfọdụ nʼime ha si nwaa Chineke. E mere ka agwọ tagbusie ha.
Let’s not test Christ, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents.
10 Ka anyị hapụkwa itamu ntamu dịka ụfọdụ ha mere ma bụrụ ndị Mmụọ ozi ọnwụ tigburu.
Don’t grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer.
11 Ihe ndị a niile dakwasịrị ha ka ọ bụrụ ihe ilere anya nye anyị. E dekwara ha nʼakwụkwọ ka ha bụrụ anyị ihe ịdọ aka na ntị nʼihi na anyị bi nʼoge a mgbe ọgwụgwụ ihe niile dị nso. (aiōn g165)
Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come. (aiōn g165)
12 Ya mere, ọ bụrụ na ị na-eche na ị guzosiri ike, lezie anya ka ị ghara ịda.
Therefore let him who thinks he stands be careful that he doesn’t fall.
13 O nweghị ọnwụnwa ọbụla nwara unu nke abịakwutebeghị mmadụ. Chineke kwesiri ntụkwasị obi, ọ gaghị ekwe ka a nwaa unu karịa ike unu. Kama mgbe a na-anwa unu, ọ ga-enye unu ike imeri ọnwụnwa ma gosikwa unu ụzọ mgbapụ nʼime ya.
No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
14 Ya mere, ndị enyi m hụrụ nʼanya, gbaaranụ ikpere arụsị ọsọ.
Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
15 Ana m agwa ndị nwere uche okwu, unu onwe unu tulenụ ihe m na-ekwu.
I speak as to wise men. Judge what I say.
16 Iko ngọzị ahụ nke anyị na-agọzi, ọ bụghị iketa oke site nʼọbara Kraịst? Achịcha nke anyị na-anyawa, ọ bụghị iketa oke nʼahụ Kraịst?
The cup of blessing which we bless, isn’t it a sharing of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, isn’t it a sharing of the body of Christ?
17 Nʼihi na otu achịcha dị, ọ bụ ezie na anyị dị ọtụtụ, anyị bụ otu ahụ, nʼihi na anyị niile na-eketa oke nʼotu ogbe achịcha ahụ.
Because there is one loaf of bread, we, who are many, are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf of bread.
18 Chetanụ ka ndị Izrel siri mee: ọ bụ na ndị na-eri ihe eji chụọ aja abụghị ndị nnwekọ nʼebe ịchụ aja?
Consider Israel according to the flesh. Don’t those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar?
19 Gịnị ka okwu ndị a m na-ekwu pụtara? Na arụsị, maọbụ ihe a chụrụ nʼaja nye arụsị bụ ihe ọbụla, maọbụ na ọ bụghị ihe?
What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
20 Mba!
But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I don’t desire that you would have fellowship with demons.
21 Unu apụghị ịṅụ site nʼiko Onyenwe anyị ma ṅụọkwa site nʼiko ekwensu; unu apụghịkwa inwe oke site na tebul Onyenwe anyị na tebul ekwensu.
You can’t both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can’t both partake of the table of the Lord and of the table of demons.
22 Anyị na-achọ ime ka iwe wee Onyenwe anyị? Anyị dị ike karịa ya?
Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
23 Ị na-asị, “Enwere m ike ime ihe niile m maara na m kwesiri ime,” ma ọ bụghị ihe niile ga-abara m uru. “Enwere m ike ime ihe niile m maara ziri ezi,” ma ọ bụghị ihe niile nwere ike inyere anyị aka.
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are profitable. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things build up.
24 Ka onye ọbụla hapụ ịchọ ọdịmma nke onwe ya, kama ọdịmma nke ndị ọzọ.
Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor’s good.
25 Rie ihe bụ anụ ọbụla e rere nʼahịa na-ajụghị ajụjụ ọbụla nʼihi akọnuche.
Whatever is sold in the butcher shop, eat, asking no question for the sake of conscience,
26 Nʼihi na, “Ụwa na ihe niile dị nʼime ya bụ nke Onyenwe anyị.”
for “the earth is the Lord’s, and its fullness.”
27 Ọ bụrụ na onye na-ekweghị ekwe akpọọ unu oriri, unu kpebie ije, riekwanụ nri ọbụla e nyere unu na-ajụghị ajụjụ nʼihi akọnuche.
But if one of those who don’t believe invites you to a meal, and you are inclined to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for the sake of conscience.
28 Ma ọ buru na e nwee onye gwara gị, “A chụrụ ihe a nʼaja.” Unu erila nri ahụ, maka onye ahụ mere ka unu mata, na nʼihi akọnuche.
But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” don’t eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord’s, with all its fullness.”
29 Akọnuche nke m na-ekwu maka ya abụghị nke gị, kama ọ bụ maka nke onye ahụ. Nʼihi gịnị ka mnwere onwe m ga-eji bụrụ ihe akọnuche onye ọzọ ga-ekpe ikpe?
Conscience, I say, not your own, but the other’s conscience. For why is my liberty judged by another conscience?
30 Ọ bụrụ na m nwere ike inye ekele, were nri m rie, olee otu e si ekwutọ m nʼihi ihe ahụ m nyere Chineke ekele banyere ya?
If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced for something I give thanks for?
31 Ihe ọbụla ị na-eme, ma unu na-eri ihe maọbụ na-aṅụ ihe, na-emenụ ha niile maka otuto nke Chineke.
Whether therefore you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
32 Unu emejọla ndị Juu maọbụ ndị Griik, ma ọ bụkwanụ nzukọ Chineke.
Give no occasion for stumbling, whether to Jews, to Greeks, or to the assembly of God;
33 Na-agbalịsinụ ike ime dịka m si eme. Nʼihe ọbụla m na-eme, ana m ejisi ike ime ihe ga-atọ onye ọbụla ụtọ. Anaghị m achọ ọdịmma nke m naanị, kama ọ bụ ọdịmma nke mmadụ ibe m, ime ka a zọpụta ha.
even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.
