Sálmarnir 59
1 Þennan sálm orti Davíð þegar Sál konungur sendi menn heim til hans til að handsama hann og drepa (sjá: 1. Sam. 19:11). Ó, Guð minn, frelsaðu mig frá óvinum mínum! Verndaðu mig gegn þeim sem vilja drepa mig!
To the choirmaster al-tashcheth of David a miktam when sent Saul and people watched the house to kill him. Deliver me from enemies my - O God my from [those who] rise up against me may you set on high me.
2 Forðaðu mér frá þessum glæpalýð, þessum morðingjum.
Deliver me from [those who] do wickedness and from men of blood save me.
3 Þeir sitja um líf mitt. Sterkir menn bíða útifyrir. Drottinn, þeir eru ekki hér af því að ég hafi gert þeim rangt.
For here! they lie in wait for life my they stir up trouble on me fierce [people] not transgression my and not sin my O Yahweh.
4 Samt vilja þeir drepa mig! Drottinn, vaknaðu! Sjáðu hvað er að gerast! Hjálpaðu mér!
Not iniquity they run! and they may be established awake! to meet me and see.
5 Þú Drottinn, Guð hinna himnesku hersveita, Guð Ísraels, rís þú upp og refsa heiðnu þjóðunum sem umhverfis okkur búa. Miskunna ekki illgjörðamönnum.
And you O Yahweh God of - hosts [the] God of Israel awake! to punish all the nations may not you show favor to all [those who] act treacherously of wickedness (Selah)
6 Að kvöldi koma þeir og njósna. Þeir snuðra eins og hundar og ráfa um borgina.
They return to evening they growl like dog so they may go around [the] city.
7 Ég heyri háðsglósur þeirra og hvernig þeir formæla Guði. „Enginn heyrir til okkar, “segja þeir.
Here! - they pour forth! with mouth their swords [are] on lips their for who? [is] hearing.
8 En þú Drottinn, hlærð að þeim, gerir einnig gys að heiðingjunum sem umhverfis okkur búa.
And you O Yahweh you laugh to them you mock all [the] nations.
9 Guð, þú ert styrkur minn! Ég vil syngja þér lof, því að þú ert skjól mitt og hlíf.
Strength his to you I will watch for God [is] refuge my.
10 Guð mætir mér með náð sinni. Hann lætur mig sjá þegar óvinir mínir verða auðmýktir.
[the] God of (Covenant loyalty my *Q(K)*) he will meet me God he will let look me on enemies my.
11 Ekki lífláta þá, þeirri ráðningu gleymir þjóð mín fljótt. Steyptu þeim heldur af stóli. Varpa þeim til jarðar, Drottinn, þú skjöldur minn.
May not you kill them - lest they should forget people my make wander about them by strength your and bring down them O shield our O Lord.
12 Þeir eru hrokafullir. Þeir formæla og ljúga.
[the] sin of Mouth their [the] word of lips their and let them be caught in pride their and from a curse and from lying [which] they speak.
13 Sviptu þeim burt með reiði þinni svo að þeir verði ekki framar til. Láttu þá kenna á því og sjá að þú, Drottinn, ert við völd í Ísrael og um allan heim.
Make an end in anger make an end and there not [will be] them so they may know that God [is] ruling over Jacob to [the] ends of the earth (Selah)
14 Á hverju kvöldi koma þeir aftur, ýlfra eins og hundar og ráfa um borgina,
So they may return to evening they growl like dog so they may go around [the] city.
15 urra og leita að æti.
They (they make wander about! *Q(K)*) to eat if not they are satisfied and they passed [the] night.
16 En ég? – Á hverjum morgni vil ég syngja um miskunn þína og mátt, því að á degi neyðarinnar varstu mér vígi.
And I - I will sing strength your so I may sing for joy to the morning covenant loyalty your for you have been a refuge of me and a place of escape on [the] day [when] it is distress to me.
17 Þú styrkur minn, um þig vil ég syngja ljóðin mín. Þú háborg mín! Þú minn miskunnsami Guð!
O strength my to you I will sing praises for God [is] refuge my [the] God of covenant loyalty my.
