Matteus 16
1 Dag nokkurn komu farísear og saddúkear til Jesú og vildu sannprófa þá fullyrðingu hans að hann væri Kristur. Þeir báðu hann að sýna sér tákn af himni. Þá sagði Jesús:
The Pharisees [Separated] and Sadducees [Morally-upright] came, and testing him, asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
2 „Þið eigið auðvelt með að átta ykkur á veðrinu. Kvöldroði boðar góðviðri að morgni, en morgunroði og dimm ský vita á vont veður. En tákn tímanna, þau getið þið ekki skilið.
But he answered them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’
In the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but you can’t discern the signs of the times!
4 Þessi illa og vantrúaða þjóð biður um sérstakt tákn af himnum, en hún mun ekki fá annað tákn en það sem Jónas fékk.“Að þessu mæltu gekk hann burt frá þeim.
An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and there will be no sign given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah [Dove].” He left them, and departed.
5 Þegar lærisveinarnir komu yfir vatnið, tóku þeir eftir því að þeir höfðu gleymt að hafa með sér nesti.
The disciples came to the other side and had forgotten to take bread.
6 „Varið ykkur!“sagði Jesús, „varið ykkur á súrdeigi faríseanna og saddúkeanna.“
Yeshua [Salvation] said to them, “Take heed and beware of the hametz ·leaven· of the Pharisees [Separated] and Sadducees [Morally-upright].”
7 Þeir héldu að hann segði þetta af því að þeir höfðu gleymt að taka með sér brauð.
They reasoned among themselves, saying, “We brought no bread.”
8 Jesús vissi hvað þeir hugsuðu og bætti við: „Lítil er trú ykkar! Af hverju hafið þið áhyggjur af mat?
Yeshua [Salvation], perceiving it, said, “Why do you reason among yourselves, you of little trusting faith, ‘because you have brought no bread?’
9 Hvar er skilningur ykkar? Munið þið ekki eftir brauðunum fimm sem nægðu handa fimm þúsund manns, og öllu því sem gekk af?
Don’t you yet perceive, neither remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
10 Og munið þið ekki heldur eftir þúsundunum fjórum og öllu sem þá varð afgangs?
Nor the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
11 Hvernig datt ykkur í hug að ég væri að tala um mat? En ég endurtek: Varið ykkur á súrdeigi faríseanna og saddúkeanna!“
How is it that you don’t perceive that I didn’t speak to you concerning bread? But beware of the hametz ·leaven· of the Pharisees [Separated] and Sadducees [Morally-upright].”
12 Þá skildu þeir loks að með „súrdeiginu“átti hann við varasamar kenningar farísea og saddúkea.
Then they understood that he didn’t tell them to beware of the hametz ·leaven· of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees [Separated] and Sadducees [Morally-upright].
13 Þegar Jesús kom til Sesareu Filippí spurði hann lærisveina sína: „Hvern segir fólk mig vera?“
Now when Yeshua [Salvation] came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi [Ruler Loves horses], he asked his disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 Þeir svöruðu: „Sumir segja að þú sért Jóhannes skírari, aðrir Elía, og enn aðrir Jeremía eða einhver af spámönnunum.“
They said, “Some say John [Yah is gracious] the Immerser, some, Elijah [My God Yah], and others, Jeremiah [Yah lifts up], or one of the prophets.”
15 „En þið, “spurði hann, „hvað segið þið?“
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Símon Pétur svaraði: „Þú ert Kristur, sonur hins lifanda Guðs.“
Simeon Peter [Hearing Rock] answered, “You are the Messiah [Anointed one], haBen haElohim Chayim [the Son of the God Living].”
17 „Sæll ert þú, Símon Pétur, “svaraði Jesús, „því faðir minn á himnum hefur sjálfur sannfært þig um þetta – þú hefur þetta ekki frá neinum manni.
Yeshua [Salvation] answered him, “Blessed are you, Simeon Bar Jonah [Hearing son of Dove], for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but 'Avi shebashamayim ·my Father in Heaven·.
18 Þú ert Pétur – kletturinn – á þessum kletti mun ég byggja söfnuð minn og vald vítis mun ekki megna að yfirbuga hann. (Hadēs g86)
I also tell you that you are Peter [Rock], and on this rock I will build my assembly, and the gates of Hades / Sh'ol ·Place of the dead· will not prevail against it. (Hadēs g86)
19 Ég mun gefa þér lykla himnaríkis. Það sem þú leysir á jörðu skal verða leyst á himnum!“
I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven (God), and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven; and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven.”
20 Síðan lagði hann ríkt á við lærisveinana að segja engum að hann væri Kristur.
Then he commanded the disciples that they should tell no one that he was Yeshua the Messiah [Salvation the Anointed one].
21 Eftir þetta tók Jesús að segja lærisveinum sínum berum orðum að hann yrði að fara til Jerúsalem. Þar mundu leiðtogar þjóðarinnar ofsækja hann og lífláta, en hann síðan rísa upp að þrem dögum liðnum.
From that time, Yeshua [Salvation] began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem [City of peace] and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and Torah-Teachers, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.
22 Pétri blöskruðu þessi orð. Hann leiddi Jesú afsíðis til að tala um fyrir honum og sagði: „Guð hjálpi þér! Þetta mun aldrei koma fyrir þig!“
Peter [Rock] took him aside, and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This will never be done to you.”
23 Jesús sneri sér að Pétri og sagði: „Burt með þig Satan! Þú ert á móti mér! Þú lítur ekki á málið frá sjónarmiði Guðs, heldur manna.“
But he turned, and said to Peter [Rock], “Get behind me, Satan [Adversary]! You are a stumbling block to me, for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of men.”
24 Síðan sagði Jesús við lærisveinana: „Vilji einhver fylgja mér þá verður hann að afneita sjálfum sér, taka upp kross sinn og fylgja mér.
Then Yeshua [Salvation] said to his disciples, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his execution-stake, and follow me.
25 Sá sem vill njóta lífsins að eigin geðþótta mun týna því, en sá sem fórnar lífi sínu mín vegna, mun finna það.
For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.
26 Hverju eru menn bættari þótt þeir eignist allan heiminn, ef þeir glata eilífa lífinu?
For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?
27 Ég, mannssonurinn, mun koma ásamt englum mínum í dýrð föðurins og dæma sérhvern eftir verkum hans.
For the Son of Man will come in the glory of 'Aviv ·his Father· with his angels, and then he will render to everyone according to his deeds.
28 Sumir ykkar, sem hér standa, munu lifa og sjá mig í konungsríki mínu.“
Most certainly I tell you, there are some standing here who will in no way taste of death, until they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.”
