Lúkas 2
1 Um þetta leyti fyrirskipaði rómverski keisarinn, Ágústus, að manntal skyldi tekið um allt Rómaveldi.

2 Þetta fyrsta manntal var gert þegar Kýreníus var landstjóri á Sýrlandi.
This firste discryuyng was maad of Cyryn, iustice of Sirie.
3 Þess vegna urðu allir að fara til ættborgar sinnar og láta skrá sig þar.
And alle men wenten to make professioun, ech in to his owne citee.
4 Þar sem Jósef var af ætt Davíðs konungs, varð hann að fara frá heimabæ sínum, Nasaret í Galíleu, til Betlehem í Júdeu, hinnar fornu borgar Davíðs,
And Joseph wente vp fro Galilee, fro the citee Nazareth, in to Judee, in to a citee of Dauid, that is clepid Bethleem, for that he was of the hous and of the meyne of Dauid,
5 ásamt Maríu unnustu sinni sem þá var að því komin að eiga barn.
that he schulde knouleche with Marie, his wijf, that was weddid to hym, and was greet with child.
6 Meðan þau voru í Betlehem, fæddi hún sitt fyrsta barn og var það drengur. Hún vafði hann reifum og lagði hann í jötu, því ekkert rúm var fyrir þau í gistihúsinu.
And it was don, while thei weren there, the daies weren fulfillid, that sche schulde bere child.
And sche bare hir first borun sone, and wlappide hym in clothis, and leide hym in a cratche, for ther was no place to hym in no chaumbir.
8 Þessa sömu nótt voru fjárhirðar á völlunum utan við þorpið og gættu hjarðar sinnar.
And scheepherdis weren in the same cuntre, wakynge and kepynge the watchis of the nyyt on her flok.
9 Allt í einu birtist þeim engill og ljóminn af dýrð Drottins lýsti upp umhverfið. Hirðarnir urðu skelkaðir,
And lo! the aungel of the Lord stood bisidis hem, and the cleernesse of God schinede aboute hem; and thei dredden with greet drede.
10 en engillinn hughreysti þá og sagði: „Verið óhræddir! Ég flyt ykkur miklar gleðifréttir sem berast eiga öllum mönnum:
And the aungel seide to hem, Nyle ye drede; for lo! Y preche to you a greet ioye, that schal be to al puple.
11 Frelsari ykkar, sjálfur konungurinn Kristur, fæddist í nótt í Betlehem!
For a sauyoure is borun to dai to you, that is Crist the Lord, in the citee of Dauid.
12 Þið munuð finna reifabarn, liggjandi í jötu – það er hann!“
And this is a tokene to you; ye schulen fynde a yong child wlappid in clothis, and leid in a cratche.
13 Um leið var með englunum fjöldi annarra engla – herskarar himnanna – og þeir lofuðu Guð og sungu:
And sudenli ther was maad with the aungel a multitude of heuenli knyythod, heriynge God,
14 „Dýrð sé Guði í upphæðum og friður á jörðu með öllum þeim sem hann elskar.“
and seiynge, Glorie be in the hiyeste thingis to God, and in erthe pees be to men of good wille.
15 Þegar englarnir voru farnir aftur til himna, sögðu hirðarnir hver við annan: „Flýtum okkur til Betlehem og sjáum þennan stórkostlega atburð, sem Drottinn hefur sagt okkur frá!“
And it was don, as the `aungelis passiden awei fro hem in to heuene, the scheephirdis spaken togider, and seiden, Go we ouer to Bethleem, and se we this word that is maad, which the Lord hath `maad, and schewide to vs.
16 Þeir hlupu til þorpsins og fundu bæði Maríu, Jósef og barnið í jötunni.
And thei hiyynge camen, and founden Marie and Joseph, and the yong child leid in a cratche.
17 Fjárhirðarnir sögðu síðan öllum hvað gerst hafði og hvað engillinn hafði sagt þeim um þetta barn.
And thei seynge, knewen of the word that was seid to hem of this child.
18 Allir sem heyrðu frásögn hirðanna, undruðust mjög,
And alle men that herden wondriden, and of these thingis that weren seid to hem of the scheephirdis.
19 en María lagði allt þetta vel á minnið og hugleiddi það með sjálfri sér.
But Marie kepte alle these wordis, berynge togider in hir herte.
20 Fjárhirðarnir fóru nú aftur út í hagann og lofuðu Guð fyrir allt sem þeir höfðu heyrt og séð, og engillinn hafði sagt þeim.
And the scheepherdis turneden ayen, glorifyinge and heriynge God in alle thingis that thei hadden herd and seyn, as it was seid to hem.
21 Að átta dögum liðnum var drengurinn umskorinn og gefið nafnið Jesús, eins og engillinn nefndi hann, áður en hann var getinn í móðurlífi.
And aftir that the eiyte daies weren endid, that the child schulde be circumcided, his name was clepid Jhesus, which was clepid of the aungel, bifor that he was conceyued in the wombe.
22 Þegar tími var kominn til að María færði hreinsunarfórn í musterinu, eins og lög Móse krefjast þegar barn hefur fæðst, fóru foreldrar Jesú með hann upp til Jerúsalem til að færa hann Drottni.
And aftir that the daies of the purgacioun of Marie weren fulfillid, aftir Moyses lawe, thei token hym into Jerusalem, to offre hym to the Lord, as it is writun in the lawe of the Lord,
23 Guð segir svo í þessum lögum: „Ef kona fæðir dreng fyrstan barna sinna, skal hann helgaður Drottni.“
For euery male kynde openynge the wombe, schal be clepid holi to the Lord; and that thei schulen yyue an offryng,
24 Um leið færðu foreldrar Jesú einnig hreinsunarfórnina, sem lögin kröfðust, en hún varð annað hvort að vera tvær turtildúfur eða tvær ungar dúfur.
aftir that it is seid in the lawe of the Lord, A peire of turturis, or twei culuer briddis.
25 Í Jerúsalem bjó maður sem Símeon hét. Hann var góður maður og guðrækinn, fylltur heilögum anda og vænti komu Krists, konungsins, sem Guð hafði lofað að senda.
And lo! a man was in Jerusalem, whos name was Symeon; and this man was iust and vertuous, and aboode the coumfort of Israel; and the Hooli Goost was in hym.
26 Heilagur andi hafði gert honum ljóst að hann mundi ekki deyja fyrr en hann hefði fengið að sjá konunginn Krist.
And he hadde takun an answere of the Hooli Goost, that he schulde not se deeth, but he sawy first the Crist of the Lord.
27 Þennan dag hafði hann einmitt fengið vísbendingu frá heilögum anda um að fara í helgidóminn. Þangað kom hann er María og Jósef komu með barnið til að færa það Drottni, eins og lögin mæltu fyrir um.
And he cam in spirit into the temple. And whanne his fadir and modir ledden the child Jhesu to do aftir the custom of the lawe for hym,
28 Símeon tók barnið í fang sér og lofaði Guð.
he took hym in to hise armes, and he blesside God,
29 Hann sagði: „Drottinn, nú get ég glaður dáið, því ég hef séð þann sem þú lofaðir að ég skyldi sjá. Ég hef augum litið frelsara heimsins!
and seide, Lord, now thou leuyst thi seruaunt aftir thi word in pees;
for myn iyen han seyn thin helthe,
which thou hast maad redi bifor the face of alle puplis;
32 Hann er ljósið, sem lýsa mun þjóðunum, og hann verður vegsemd þjóðar þinnar Ísrael.“
liyt to the schewyng of hethene men, and glorie of thi puple Israel.
33 Jósef og María stóðu hjá og hlustuðu undrandi á það sem Símeon sagði um Jesú.
And his fadir and his modir weren wondrynge on these thingis, that weren seid of hym.
34 Símeon blessaði þau en sagði síðan við Maríu: „Sverð mun nísta sál þína, því margir í Ísrael munu hafna þessu barni og það mun verða þeim til falls, en öðrum verður hann uppspretta gleðinnar. Þannig mun afstaða og hugsanir margra koma fram í ljósið.“
And Symeon blesside hem, and seide to Marie, his modir, Lo! this is set in to the fallyng doun and in to the risyng ayen of many men in Israel, and in to a tokene, to whom it schal be ayenseid.
And a swerd schal passe thorou thin owne soule, that the thouytis ben schewid of many hertis.
36 Spákona nokkur, Anna að nafni, var einnig stödd í musterinu þennan dag. Hún var Fanúelsdóttir og af ætt Assers. Hún var orðin háöldruð og hafði verið ekkja í áttatíu og fjögur ár eftir sjö ára búskap. Hún fór aldrei út úr musterinu, heldur dvaldist þar dag og nótt. Hún helgaði líf sitt Guði og lofaði hann með bænahaldi og föstu.
And Anna was a prophetesse, the douytir of Fanuel, of the lynage of Aser. And sche hadde goon forth in many daies, and hadde lyued with hir hosebonde seuene yeer fro hir maydynhode.
And this was a widewe to foure scoor yeer and foure; and sche departide not fro the temple, but seruyde to God nyyt and dai in fastyngis and preieris.
38 Nú kom hún þar að sem Símeon var að tala við Maríu og Jósef og byrjaði einnig að þakka Guði. Hún tók að segja öllum í Jerúsalem, sem væntu komu frelsarans, að Kristur væri loksins kominn.
And this cam vpon hem in thilk our, and knoulechide to the Lord, and spak of hym to alle that abiden the redempcioun of Israel.
39 Þegar foreldrar Jesú höfðu gert allt sem lögin kröfðust, fóru þau aftur heim til Nasaret í Galíleu.
And as thei hadden ful don alle thingis, aftir the lawe of the Lord, thei turneden ayen in to Galilee, in to her citee Nazareth.
40 Drengurinn óx og þroskaðist og Guð blessaði hann.
And the child wexe, and was coumfortid, ful of wisdom; and the grace of God was in hym.
41 Foreldrar Jesú fóru ár hvert til Jerúsalem á páskahátíðina, og þegar Jesús var tólf ára, fékk hann i fyrsta skipti að fara með.
And his fadir and modir wenten ech yeer in to Jerusalem, in the solempne dai of pask.
And whanne Jhesus was twelue yeer oold, thei wenten vp to Jerusalem, aftir the custom of the feeste dai.
43 Þegar lagt var af stað heim til Nasaret, að hátíðahöldunum loknum, varð Jesús eftir í Jerúsalem. Fyrsta dag heimferðarinnar söknuðu María og Jósef hans ekki,
And whanne the daies weren don, thei turneden ayen; and the child abood in Jerusalem, and his fadir and modir knewen it not.
44 því að þau héldu að hann væri meðal kunningja sem áttu samleið. En þegar hann skilaði sér ekki um kvöldið, fóru þau að leita hans meðal vina og ættingja.
For thei gessynge that he hadde be in the felowschip, camen a daies iourney, and souyten hym among hise cosyns and hise knouleche.
45 Leitin varð árangurslaus, og því sneru þau aftur til Jerúsalem til að leita hans þar.
And whanne thei founden hym not, thei turneden ayen in to Jerusalem, and souyten hym.
46 Þau fundu hann ekki fyrr en eftir þrjá daga. Þá sat hann í musterinu meðal lögvitringanna og ræddi við þá háleit málefni. Undruðust allir skilning hans og svör.
And it bifelle, that aftir the thridde dai thei founden hym in the temple, sittynge in the myddil of the doctours, herynge hem and axynge hem.
And alle men that herden hym, wondriden on the prudence and the answeris of hym.
48 Foreldrar hans vissu ekki sitt rjúkandi ráð: „Elsku drengurinn minn, “sagði móðir hans, „af hverju gerðirðu okkur þetta? Við faðir þinn vorum dauðhrædd um þig og höfum leitað þín um allt!“
And thei seyn, and wondriden. And his modir seide to hym, Sone, what hast thou do to vs thus? Lo! thi fadir and Y sorewynge han souyte thee.
49 „Hvers vegna voruð þið að leita að mér?“spurði hann, „vissuð þið ekki að mér bar að vera í musterinu, húsi föður míns?“
And he seide to hem, What is it that ye souyten me? wisten ye not that in tho thingis that ben of my fadir, it behoueth me to be?
50 En þau skildu ekki við hvað hann átti.
And thei vndurstoden not the word, which he spak to hem.
51 Síðan fór hann með þeim heim til Nasaret og var þeim hlýðinn, en móðir hans lagði alla þessa atburði vel á minnið.
And he cam doun with hem, and cam to Nazareth, and was suget to hem. And his moder kepte togidir alle these wordis, and bare hem in hir herte.
52 Jesús óx að visku og vexti og allir elskuðu hann, bæði Guð og menn.
And Jhesus profitide in wisdom, age, and grace, anentis God and men.
