Apostolok 6
1 Azokban a napokban pedig, amikor a tanítványok száma szaporodott, a görög zsidók közt panaszkodás támadt a héberek ellen, hogy a közülük való özvegyasszonyokat mellőzik a mindennapi szolgálatban.
And during those days, the disciples multiplying, there was a murmuring of the Hellenists against the Hebrews, that their widows were being neglected in the daily ministration.
2 Ezért a tizenkettő egybegyűjtve a tanítványok sokaságát, ezt mondták: „Nem helyes, hogy mi az Isten igéjét elhanyagoljuk, és az asztalok körül szolgálunk.
And the twelve calling to them the multitude of the disciples, said, It is not pleasing that we, leaving the word of God, serve tables.
3 Válasszatok ezért, atyámfiai, magatok közül hét férfit, akiknek jó hírük van, akik Szentlélekkel és bölcsességgel vannak megtelve, hogy őket erre az elfoglaltságra beállítsuk.
But brethren, look out seven men from you of good report, full of the Spirit and wisdom, whom we shall appoint over this interest;
4 Mi pedig foglalatosok maradunk az imádkozásban, és az igehirdetés szolgálatában.“
and we will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.
5 Tetszett ez a beszéd az egész gyülekezetnek, és kiválasztották Istvánt, aki hittel és Szentlélekkel telt férfi volt, Fülöpöt, Prokhoroszt, Nikánórt, Timónt, Parmenászt és Nikoláoszt, aki Antiókhiából való prozelita volt;
And the word was pleasing before all the multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas,
6 Őket az apostolok elé állították, és miután imádkoztak, kezeiket rájuk tették.
the Antiochian proselyte, whom they placed before the apostles, and having prayed, they placed their hands on them.
7 És az Isten igéje növekedett, és sokasodott a tanítványok száma Jeruzsálemben, és a papok közül is nagyon sokan követték a hitet.
And the word of God increased, and the number of the disciples multiplied exceedingly in Jerusalem, and a great multitude of the priests were obedient unto the faith.
8 István pedig – hittel és erővel telve –, nagy csodákat és jeleket cselekedett az emberek között.
And Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and miracles among the people.
9 Néhányan azonban eljöttek, akik ahhoz a zsinagógához tartoztak, amelyet a szabadosok, a ciréneiek, az alexandriaiak, a Ciliciából és Ázsiából valókénak neveztek, és Istvánnal vitatkoztak.
And certain ones of the synagogues, called Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and those from Cilicia and Asia, stood up disputing with Stephen,
10 De nem tudtak ellenállni annak a bölcsességnek és a Léleknek, amellyel szólt.
and they were not able to resist the wisdom and spirit with which he was speaking.
11 Ekkor felbujtottak néhány embert, akik ezt mondták: „Hallottuk őt káromló beszédeket szólni Mózes ellen és az Isten ellen.“
Then they bribed men, saying, that we have heard him speaking words blasphemous against Moses and God.
12 És fellázították a népet, a véneket és az írástudókat; és reá rohanva, magukkal ragadták őt, és elvitték a tanács elé.
And they excited the people and the elders and scribes, and coming upon him, seized him, and led him into the council,
13 Hamis tanúkat állítottak, akik azt mondták: „Ez az ember nem szűnik meg káromló beszédeket szólni e szent hely ellen és a törvény ellen.
and they raised up false witnesses, saying, This man does not cease speaking words against this holy place and the law;
14 Hallottuk, amint azt mondta, hogy az a Názáreti Jézus ezt a helyet lerombolja, és megváltoztatja a szertartásokat, amelyeket Mózes adott nékünk.“
for we have heard him saying, that this Jesus the Nazarene will destroy this place, and change the customs which Moses delivered unto us.
15 A tanácsban ülők mindnyájan tekintetüket reá vetették, és olyannak látták az arcát, mint egy angyalé.
And all sitting in the council, having fixed their eyes on him, saw his face as the face of an angel.
