Példabeszédek 9
1 Bölcseség megépítette az ő házát, annak hét oszlopát kivágván.
Wisdom, hath builded her house, hath hewn out her seven pillars;
2 Megölte vágnivalóit, kitöltötte borát, asztalát is elkészítette.
hath slaughtered her beasts, hath mingled her wine, hath even set in order her table;
3 Elbocsátá az ő leányit, hivogat a város magas helyeinek tetein.
hath sent forth her maidens, She crieth aloud, upon the tops of the heights of the city:
4 Ki tudatlan? térjen ide; az értelem nélkül valónak ezt mondja:
Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither, as for him that lacketh sense, she saith to him—
5 Jőjjetek, éljetek az én étkemmel, és igyatok a borból, melyet töltöttem.
Come, feed on my food, and drink of the wine I have mingled;
6 Hagyjátok el a bolondokat, hogy éljetek, járjatok az eszességnek útán.
Forsake the simple ones, and live, and advance in the way of understanding.
7 A ki tanítja a csúfolót, nyer magának szidalmat: és a ki feddi a latrot, szégyenére lesz.
He that rebuketh a scoffer, getteth to himself contempt, and, he that reproveth a lawless man, [getteth to himself] his shame.
8 Ne fedd meg a csúfolót, hogy ne gyűlöljön téged; fedd meg a bölcset, és szeret téged.
Do not reprove a scoffer, lest he hate thee, Reprove a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 Adj a bölcsnek, és még bölcsebb lesz; tanítsd az igazat, és öregbíti a tanulságot.
Give to a wise man, and he will be wiser still, Inform a righteous man, and he will increase learning.
10 A bölcseségnek kezdete az Úrnak félelme; és a Szentnek ismerete az eszesség.
The beginning of wisdom, is the reverence of Yahweh, and, the knowledge of the Holy, is understanding;
11 Mert én általam sokasulnak meg a te napjaid, és meghosszabbítják néked életednek esztendeit.
For, by me, shall be multiplied—thy days, and there be added to thee—the years of life.
12 Ha bölcs vagy, bölcs vagy te magadnak; ha pedig csúfoló vagy, magad vallod kárát.
If thou art wise, thou art wise for thyself, but, if thou scoff, alone, shalt thou bear it.
13 Balgaság asszony fecsegő, bolond és semmit nem tud.
The woman Stupidity, is boisterous, so simple that she knoweth not what she would do;
14 És leült az ő házának ajtajába, székre a városnak magas helyein,
So she sitteth at the entrance of her house, upon a seat, in the heights of the city;
15 Hogy hívja az útonjárókat, a kik egyenesen mennek útjokon.
To invite them who pass by the way, who are going straight on in their paths:
16 Ki együgyű? térjen ide, és valaki esztelen, annak ezt mondja:
Whoso is simple, let him turn aside hither, and, as for him that lacketh sense, she saith to him:
17 A lopott víz édes, és a titkon való étel gyönyörűséges!
Stolen waters, will be sweet, —and a secret meal, will be pleasant;
