1 Halljátok meg, fiaim, atyátok erkölcsi tanítását, és figyelmezzetek az értelemnek megtudására.
Heare, O ye children, the instruction of a father, and giue eare to learne vnderstanding.
2 Mert jó tanulságot adok néktek; az én tudományomat el ne hagyjátok.
For I doe giue you a good doctrine: therefore forsake yee not my lawe.
3 Mert én atyámnak fia voltam, gyenge és egyetlenegy az én anyám előtt.
For I was my fathers sonne, tender and deare in the sight of my mother,
4 Tehát tanított engem, és mondá nékem: tartsa meg az én beszédemet a te elméd, hogy megtartván az én parancsolatimat, élj;
When he taught me, and sayde vnto me, Let thine heart holde fast my woordes: keepe my commandements, and thou shalt liue.
5 Szerezz bölcseséget, szerezz eszességet; ne felejtkezzél el, se el ne hajolj az én számnak beszéditől.
Get wisedom: get vnderstading: forget not, neither decline from the woordes of my mouth.
6 Ne hagyd el azt, és megtart téged; szeresd azt, és megőriz téged.
Forsake her not, and shee shall keepe thee: loue her and shee shall preserue thee.
7 A bölcseség kezdete ez: szerezz bölcseséget, és minden keresményedből szerezz értelmet.
Wisedome is the beginning: get wisedome therefore: and aboue all thy possession get vnderstanding.
8 Magasztald fel azt, és felmagasztal téged; tiszteltté tesz téged, ha hozzád öleled azt.
Exalt her, and she shall exalt thee: she shall bring thee to honour, if thou embrace her.
9 Ád a te fejednek kedvességnek koszorúját; igen szép ékes koronát ád néked.
She shall giue a comely ornamet vnto thine head, yea, she shall giue thee a crowne of glorie.
10 Hallgasd, fiam, és vedd be az én beszédimet; így sokasulnak meg néked a te életednek esztendei.
Heare, my sonne, and receiue my wordes, and the yeeres of thy life shalbe many.
11 Bölcseségnek útára tanítottalak téged, vezettelek téged az igazságnak ösvényin.
I haue taught thee in ye way of wisedom, and led thee in the pathes of righteousnesse.
12 Mikor jársz, semmi nem szorítja meg a te járásodat; és ha futsz, nem ütközöl meg.
Whe thou goest, thy gate shall not be strait, and when thou runnest, thou shalt not fall.
13 Ragaszkodjál az erkölcsi tanításhoz, ne hagyd el; őrizd meg azt, mert az a te életed.
Take holde of instruction, and leaue not: keepe her, for shee is thy life.
14 A hitetleneknek útjára ne menj, se ne járj a gonoszok ösvényén.
Enter not into the way of the wicked, and walke not in the way of euill men.
15 Hagyd el, át ne menj rajta; térj el tőle, és menj tovább.
Auoide it, and goe not by it: turne from it, and passe by.
16 Mert nem alhatnak azok, ha gonoszt nem cselekesznek: és kimegy szemükből az álom, ha mást romlásra nem juttatnak.
For they can not sleepe, except they haue done euill, and their sleepe departeth except they cause some to fall.
17 Mert az istentelenségnek étkét eszik, és az erőszaktételnek borát iszszák.
For they eate the breade of wickednesse, and drinke the wine of violence.
18 Az igazak ösvénye pedig olyan, mint a hajnal világossága, mely minél tovább halad, annál világosabb lesz, a teljes délig.
But the way of the righteous shineth as the light, that shineth more and more vnto the perfite day.
19 Az istentelenek útja pedig olyan, mint a homály, nem tudják miben ütköznek meg.
The way of the wicked is as the darkenes: they knowe not wherein they shall fall.
20 Fiam, az én szavaimra figyelmezz, az én beszédimre hajtsad füledet.
My sonne, hearken vnto my wordes, incline thine eare vnto my sayings.
21 Ne távozzanak el a te szemeidtől, tartsd meg ezeket a te elmédben.
Let them not depart from thine eyes, but keepe them in the middes of thine heart.
22 Mert életök ezek azoknak, a kik megnyerik, és egész testöknek egészség.
For they are life vnto those that find them, and health vnto all their flesh.
23 Minden féltett dolognál jobban őrizd meg szívedet, mert abból indul ki minden élet.
Keepe thine heart with all diligence: for thereout commeth life.
24 Vesd el tőled a száj hamisságát, és az ajkak álnokságát távoztasd el magadtól.
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and put wicked lippes farre from thee.
25 A te szemeid előre nézzenek, és szemöldökid egyenest magad elé irányuljanak.
Let thine eyes beholde the right, and let thine eyelids direct thy way before thee.
26 Egyengesd el lábaid ösvényit, s minden te útaid állhatatosak legyenek.
Ponder the path of thy feete, and let all thy waies be ordred aright.
27 Ne térj jobbra, se balra, fordítsd el a te lábadat a gonosztól.
Turne not to the right hande, nor to the left, but remooue thy foote from euill.
