1 Az embernél vannak az elme gondolatjai; de az Úrtól van a nyelv felelete.
The preparations of the heart are man's, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.
2 Minden útai tiszták az embernek a maga szemei előtt; de a ki a lelkeket vizsgálja, az Úr az!
All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.
3 Bízzad az Úrra a te dolgaidat; és a te gondolatid véghez mennek.
Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
4 Mindent teremtett az Úr az ő maga czéljára; az istentelent is a büntetésnek napjára.
The LORD hath made every things for His own purpose, yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5 Útálatos az Úrnak minden, a ki elméjében felfuvalkodott, kezemet adom rá, hogy nem marad büntetetlen.
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; my hand upon it! he shall not be unpunished.
6 Könyörületességgel és igazsággal töröltetik el a bűn; és az Úrnak félelme által távozhatunk el a gonosztól.
By mercy and truth iniquity is expiated; and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
7 Mikor jóakarattal van az Úr valakinek útaihoz, még annak ellenségeit is jóakaróivá teszi.
When a man's ways please the LORD, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
8 Jobb a kevés igazsággal, mint a gazdag jövedelem hamissággal.
Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice.
9 Az embernek elméje gondolja meg az ő útát; de az Úr igazgatja annak járását.
A man's heart deviseth his way; but the LORD directeth his steps.
10 Jósige van a király ajkain; az ítéletben ne szóljon hamisságot az ő szája.
A divine sentence is in the lips of the king; his mouth trespasseth not in judgment.
11 Az Úré az igaz mérték és mérőserpenyő, az ő műve minden mérőkő.
A just balance and scales are the LORD'S; all the weights of the bag are His work.
12 Útálatos legyen a királyoknál istentelenséget cselekedni; mert igazsággal erősíttetik meg a királyiszék.
It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness; for the throne is established by righteousness.
13 Kedvesek a királyoknak az igaz beszédek; és az igazmondót szereti a király.
Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
14 A királynak felgerjedt haragja olyan, mint a halál követe; de a bölcs férfiú leszállítja azt.
The wrath of a king is as messengers of death; but a wise man will pacify it.
15 A királynak vidám orczájában élet van; jóakaratja olyan, mint a tavaszi eső fellege.
In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
16 Szerzeni bölcseséget, oh menynyivel jobb az aranynál; és szerzeni eszességet, kivánatosb az ezüstnél!
How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! yea, to get understanding is rather to be chosen than silver.
17 Az igazak országútja eltávozás a gonosztól; megtartja magát az, a ki megőrzi az ő útát.
The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
18 A megromlás előtt kevélység jár, és az eset előtt felfuvalkodottság.
Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Jobb alázatos lélekkel lenni a szelídekkel, mint zsákmányon osztozni a kevélyekkel.
Better it is to be of a lowly spirit with the humble, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
20 A ki figyelmez az igére, jót nyer; és a ki bízik az Úrban, oh mely boldog az!
He that giveth heed unto the word shall find good; and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.
21 A ki elméjében bölcs, hívatik értelmesnek; a beszédnek pedig édessége neveli a tudományt.
The wise in heart is called a man of discernment; and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
22 Életnek kútfeje az értelem annak, a ki bírja azt; de a bolondok fenyítéke bolondságuk.
Understanding is a fountain of life unto him that hath it; but folly is the chastisement of fools.
23 A bölcsnek elméje értelmesen igazgatja az ő száját, és az ő ajkain öregbíti a tudományt.
The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
24 Lépesméz a gyönyörűséges beszédek; édesek a léleknek, és meggyógyítói a tetemeknek.
Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
25 Van oly út, mely igaz az ember szeme előtt, de vége a halálnak úta.
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
26 A munkálkodó lelke magának munkálkodik; mert az ő szája kényszeríti őt.
The hunger of the labouring man laboureth for him; for his mouth compelleth him.
27 A haszontalan ember gonoszt ás ki, és az ő ajkain mintegy égő tűz van;
An ungodly man diggeth up evil, and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
28 A gonosz ember versengést szerez, és a susárló elválasztja a jó barátokat.
A froward man soweth strife; and a whisperer separateth familiar friends.
29 Az erőszakos ember elhiteti az ő felebarátját, és nem jó úton viszi őt.
A man of violence enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into a way that is not good.
30 A ki behúnyja szemeit, azért teszi, hogy álnokságot gondoljon; a ki összeszorítja ajkait, már véghez vitte a gonoszságot.
He that shutteth his eyes, it is to devise froward things; he that biteth his lips bringeth evil to pass.
31 Igen szép ékes korona a vénség, az igazságnak útában találtatik.
The hoary head is a crown of glory, it is found in the way of righteousness.
32 Jobb a hosszútűrő az erősnél; és a ki uralkodik a maga indulatján, annál, a ki várost vesz meg.
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
33 Az ember kebelében vetnek sorsot; de az Úrtól van annak minden ítélete.
The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.
