Példabeszédek 14
1 A bölcs asszony építi a maga házát; a bolond pedig önkezével rontja el azt.
Every wise woman has built her house, And the foolish breaks it down with her hands.
2 A ki igazán jár, féli az Urat; a ki pedig elfordult az ő útaiban, megútálja őt.
Whoever is walking in his uprightness is fearing YHWH, And the perverted is despising Him [in] his ways.
3 A bolondnak szájában van kevélységnek pálczája; a bölcseknek pedig beszéde megtartja őket.
A rod of pride [is] in the mouth of a fool, And the lips of the wise preserve them.
4 Mikor nincsenek ökrök: tiszta a jászol; a gabonának bősége pedig az ökörnek erejétől van.
Without oxen a stall [is] clean, And great [is] the increase by the power of the ox.
5 A hűséges tanú nem hazud; a hamis tanú pedig hazugságot bocsát szájából.
A faithful witness does not lie, And a false witness breathes out lies.
6 A csúfoló keresi a bölcseséget, és nincs; a tudomány pedig az eszesnek könnyű.
A scorner has sought wisdom, and it is not, And knowledge [is] easy to the intelligent.
7 Menj el a bolond férfiú elől; és nem ismerted meg a tudománynak beszédét.
Go from before a foolish man, Or you have not known the lips of knowledge.
8 Az eszesnek bölcsesége az ő útának megértése; a bolondoknak pedig bolondsága csalás.
The wisdom of the prudent [is] to understand his way, And the folly of fools [is] deceit.
9 A bolondokat megcsúfolja a bűnért való áldozat; az igazak között pedig jóakarat van.
Fools mock at a guilt-offering, And among the upright—a pleasing thing.
10 A szív tudja az ő lelke keserűségét; és az ő örömében az idegen nem részes.
The heart knows its own bitterness, And a stranger does not interfere with its joy.
11 Az istenteleneknek háza elvész; de az igazaknak sátora megvirágzik.
The house of the wicked is destroyed, And the tent of the upright flourishes.
12 Van olyan út, mely helyesnek látszik az ember előtt, és vége a halálra menő út.
There is a way—right before a man, And its latter end [are] ways of death.
13 Nevetés közben is fáj a szív; és végre az öröm fordul szomorúságra.
Even in laughter is the heart pained, And the latter end of joy [is] affliction.
14 Az ő útaiból elégszik meg az elfordult elméjű; önmagából pedig a jó férfiú.
The backslider in heart is filled from his ways, And a good man—from his fruits.
15 Az együgyű hisz minden dolognak; az eszes pedig a maga járására vigyáz.
The simple gives credence to everything, And the prudent attends to his step.
16 A bölcs félvén, eltávozik a gonosztól; a bolond pedig dühöngő és elbizakodott.
The wise is fearing and turning from evil, And a fool is transgressing and is confident.
17 A hirtelen haragú bolondságot cselekszik, és a cselszövő férfi gyűlölséges lesz.
Whoever is short of temper does folly, And a man of wicked schemes is hated.
18 Bírják az esztelenek a bolondságot örökség szerint; az eszesek pedig fonják a tudománynak koszorúját.
The simple have inherited folly, And the prudent are crowned [with] knowledge.
19 Meghajtják magokat a gonoszok a jók előtt, és a hamisak az igaznak kapujánál.
The evil have bowed down before the good, And the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
20 Még az ő felebarátjánál is útálatos a szegény; a gazdagnak pedig sok a barátja.
The poor is hated even of his neighbor, And those loving the rich [are] many.
21 A ki megútálja az ő felebarátját, vétkezik; a ki pedig a szegényekkel kegyelmességet cselekszik, boldog az!
Whoever is despising his neighbor sins, Whoever is favoring the humble, O his blessedness.
22 Nemde tévelyegnek, a kik gonoszt szereznek? kegyelmesség pedig és igazság a jó szerzőknek.
Do they who are devising evil not err? And kindness and truth [are] to those devising good,
23 Minden munkából nyereség lesz; de az ajkaknak beszédéből csak szűkölködés.
In all labor there is advantage, And a thing of the lips [is] only to want.
24 A bölcseknek ékességök az ő gazdagságuk; a tudatlanok bolondsága pedig csak bolondság.
The crown of the wise is their wealth, The folly of fools [is] folly.
25 Lelkeket szabadít meg az igaz bizonyság; hazugságokat szól pedig az álnok.
A true witness is delivering souls, And a deceitful one breathes out lies.
26 Az Úrnak félelmében erős a bizodalom, és az ő fiainak lesz menedéke.
Strong confidence [is] in the fear of YHWH, And there is a refuge to His sons.
27 Az Úrnak félelme az életnek kútfeje, a halál tőrének eltávoztatására.
The fear of YHWH [is] a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.
28 A nép sokasága a király dicsősége; a nép elfogyása pedig az uralkodó romlása.
The honor of a king [is] in the multitude of a people, And the ruin of a prince in lack of people.
29 A haragra késedelmes bővelkedik értelemmel; a ki pedig elméjében hirtelenkedő, bolondságot szerez az.
Whoever is slow to anger [is] of great understanding, And whoever is short in temper is exalting folly.
30 A szelíd szív a testnek élete; az irígység pedig a csontoknak rothadása.
A healed heart [is] life to the flesh, And rottenness to the bones [is] envy.
31 A ki elnyomja a szegényt, gyalázattal illeti annak teremtőjét; az pedig tiszteli, a ki könyörül a szűkölködőn.
An oppressor of the poor reproaches his Maker, And whoever is honoring Him Is favoring the needy.
32 Az ő nyavalyájába ejti magát az istentelen; az igaznak pedig halála idején is reménysége van.
The wicked is driven away in his wickedness, And the righteous [is] trustful in his death.
33 Az eszesnek elméjében nyugszik a bölcseség; a mi pedig a tudatlanokban van, magát hamar megismerheti.
Wisdom rests in the heart of the intelligent. And it is known in the midst of fools.
34 Az igazság felmagasztalja a nemzetet; a bűn pedig gyalázatára van a népeknek.
Righteousness exalts a nation, And the righteousness of peoples [is] a sin-offering.
35 A királynak jóakaratja van az eszes szolgához; haragja pedig a megszégyenítőhöz.
The favor of a king [is] to a wise servant, And one causing shame is an object of his wrath!
