Jób 28
1 Bizony az ezüstnek bányája van, és helye az aranynak, a hol tisztítják.
“Surely there is a mine for silver and a place where gold is refined.
2 A vasat a földből hozzák elő, a követ pedig érczczé olvasztják.
Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore.
3 Határt vet az ember a setétségnek, és átkutatja egészen és végig a homálynak és a halál árnyékának kövét.
Man puts an end to the darkness; he probes the farthest recesses for ore in deepest darkness.
4 Aknát tör távol a lakóktól: mintha lábukról is megfelejtkeznének, alámerülnek és lebegnek emberektől messze.
Far from human habitation he cuts a shaft in places forgotten by the foot of man. Far from men he dangles and sways.
5 Van föld, a melyből kenyér terem, alant pedig fel van forgatva, mintegy tűz által;
Food may come from the earth, but from below it is transformed as by fire.
6 Köveiben zafir található, göröngyeiben arany van.
Its rocks are the source of sapphires, containing flecks of gold.
7 Van ösvény, a melyet nem ismer a sas, sem a sólyom szeme nem látja azt.
No bird of prey knows that path; no falcon’s eye has seen it.
8 Nem tudják azt büszke vadak, az oroszlán sem lépked azon.
Proud beasts have never trodden it; no lion has ever prowled over it.
9 Ráveti kezét az ember a kovakőre, a hegyeket tövükből kiforgatja.
The miner strikes the flint; he overturns mountains at their base.
10 A sziklákban tárnákat hasít, és minden drága dolgot meglát a szeme.
He hews out channels in the rocks, and his eyes spot every treasure.
11 Elköti a folyók szivárgását, az elrejtett dolgot pedig világosságra hozza.
He stops up the sources of the streams to bring what is hidden to light.
12 De a bölcseség hol található, és az értelemnek hol van a helye?
But where can wisdom be found, and where does understanding dwell?
13 Halandó a hozzá vivő utat nem ismeri, az élők földén az nem található.
No man can know its value, nor is it found in the land of the living.
14 A mélység azt mondja: Nincsen az bennem; a tenger azt mondja: én nálam sincsen.
The ocean depths say, ‘It is not in me,’ while the sea declares, ‘It is not with me.’
15 Színaranyért meg nem szerezhető, ára ezüsttel meg nem fizethető.
It cannot be bought with gold, nor can its price be weighed out in silver.
16 Nem mérhető össze Ofir aranyával, nem drága onikszszal, sem zafirral.
It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, in precious onyx or sapphire.
17 Nem ér fel vele az arany és gyémánt, aranyedényekért be nem cserélhető.
Neither gold nor crystal can compare to it, nor jewels of fine gold be exchanged for it.
18 Korall és kristály említni sem való; a bölcseség ára drágább a gyöngyöknél.
Coral and quartz are unworthy of mention; the price of wisdom is beyond rubies.
19 Nem ér fel vele Kúsnak topáza, színaranynyal sem mérhető össze.
Topaz from Cush cannot compare to it, nor can it be valued in pure gold.
20 A bölcseség honnan jő tehát, és hol van helye az értelemnek?
From where then does wisdom come, and where does understanding dwell?
21 Rejtve van az minden élő szemei előtt, az ég madarai elől is fedve van.
It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing and concealed from the birds of the air.
22 A pokol és halál azt mondják: Csak hírét hallottuk füleinkkel! (questioned)
Abaddon and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor about it.’
23 Isten tudja annak útját, ő ismeri annak helyét.
But God understands its way, and He knows its place.
24 Mert ő ellát a föld határira, ő lát mindent az ég alatt.
For He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.
25 Mikor a szélnek súlyt szerzett, és a vizeket mértékre vette;
When God fixed the weight of the wind and measured out the waters,
26 Mikor az esőnek határt szabott, és mennydörgő villámoknak útat:
when He set a limit for the rain and a path for the thunderbolt,
27 Akkor látta és kijelentette azt, megalapította és meg is vizsgálta azt.
then He looked at wisdom and appraised it; He established it and searched it out.
28 Az embernek pedig mondá: Ímé az Úrnak félelme: az a bölcseség, és az értelem: a gonosztól való eltávozás.
And He said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”
