5 Mózes 9

1 Halljad Izráel, te általmégy ma a Jordánon, hogy bemenvén, örökségül bírj náladnál nagyobb és erősebb népeket, nagy és az égig megerősített városokat;

Hear, O Israel: You go this day across Jordan to inherit nations greater and stronger than yourselves, cities great and walled up to heaven;

2 Nagy és szálas népet, Anák-fiakat, a kikről magad is tudod és magad is hallottad: kicsoda állhat meg Anák fiai előtt?

a people great and many and tall, the sons of Enac, whom you know, and concerning whom you have heard [say], Who can stand before the children of Enac?

3 Tudd meg azért e mai napon, hogy az Úr, a te Istened az, a ki átmegy előtted mint emésztő tűz, ő törli el azokat, és ő alázza meg azokat te előtted; és kiűzöd, és hamar elveszted őket, a miképen az Úr megmondotta néked.

And you shall know today, that the Lord your God he shall go before your face: he is a consuming fire; he shall destroy them, and he shall turn them back before you, and shall destroy them quickly, as the Lord said to you.

4 Mikor azért kiűzi az Úr, a te Istened azokat te előled, ne szólj a te szívedben, mondván: Az én igazságomért hozott be engem az Úr, hogy örökségül bírjam ezt a földet; holott e népeket az ő istentelenségökért űzi ki te előled az Úr;

Speak not in your heart, when the Lord your God has destroyed these nations before your face, saying, For my righteousness the Lord brought me in to inherit this good land.

5 Nem a te igazságodért, sem a te szívednek igaz voltáért mégy te be az ő földük bírására; hanem az Úr, a te Istened e népeknek istentelenségéért űzi ki őket előled, hogy megerősítse az ígéretet, a mely felől megesküdt az Úr a te atyáidnak: Ábrahámnak, Izsáknak és Jákóbnak.

Not for your righteousness, nor for the holiness of your heart, do you go in to inherit their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the Lord will destroy them from before you, and that he may establish the covenant, which the Lord sware to our fathers, to Abraam, and to Isaac, and to Jacob.

6 Tudd meg azért, hogy az Úr, a te Istened nem a te igazságodért adja néked ezt a jó földet birtokul, mert kemény nyakú nép vagy te!

And you shall know today, that [it is] not for your righteousnesses the Lord your God gives you this good land to inherit, for you are a stiff-necked people.

7 Emlékezzél meg róla, és el ne felejtsed azokat, a mikkel haragra indítottad az Urat, a te Istenedet a pusztában! A naptól fogva, a melyen kijöttél Égyiptom földéből, mind addig, míglen e helyre jutottatok, az Úr ellen tusakodtatok vala.

Remember, forget not, how much you provoked the Lord your God in the wilderness: from the day that you came forth out of Egypt, even till you came into this place, you continued to be disobedient toward the Lord.

8 Már a Hóreben haragra indítátok az Urat, és annyira megharaguvék reátok az Úr, hogy el akara veszteni titeket.

Also in Choreb you provoked the Lord, and the Lord was angry with you to destroy you;

9 Mikor felmegyek vala a hegyre, hogy átvegyem a kőtáblákat, a szövetségnek tábláit, a melyet az Úr kötött vala veletek, és a hegyen maradtam vala negyven nap és negyven éjjel: kenyeret nem ettem, sem vizet nem ittam vala.

when I went up into the mountain to receive the tables of stone, the tables of the covenant, which the Lord made with you, and I was in the mountain forty days and forty nights, I ate no bread and drank no water.

10 Akkor átadá nékem az Úr a két kőtáblát, a melyek az Isten ujjával valának beírva, és rajtok valának mind amaz ígék, a melyeket mondott vala az Úr néktek a hegyen a tűz közepéből, a gyülekezésnek napján.

And the Lord gave me the two tables of stone written with the finger of God, and on them there had been written all the words which the Lord spoke to you in the mountain in the day of the assembly.

11 És mikor a negyven nap és negyven éj elmultával átadá az Úr nékem a két kőtáblát, a szövetségnek tábláit;

And it came to pass after forty days and forty nights, the Lord gave me the two tables of stone, the tables of the covenant.

12 Akkor monda az Úr nékem: Kelj fel, hamar menj innen alá; mert elvetemedett a te néped, a kit kihoztál Égyiptomból; hamar eltértek az útról, a melyet parancsoltam vala nékik, öntött bálványt készítettek magoknak.

And the Lord said to me, Arise, go down quickly from hence, for your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have transgressed; they have gone aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them, and have made themselves a molten image.

13 Ismét szóla nékem az Úr, mondván: Láttam e népet, és bizony kemény nyakú nép ez!

And the Lord spoke to me, saying, I have spoken to you once and again, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff-necked people.

14 Hagyj békét nékem, hadd pusztítsam el őket, és töröljem el az ő nevöket az ég alól, és teszlek téged ennél nagyobb és erősebb néppé!

And now suffer me utterly to destroy them, and I will blot out their name from under heaven, and will make of you a nation great and strong, and more numerous than this.

15 Megfordulék azért, és alájövék a hegyről, a hegy pedig tűzzel ég vala, és a szövetségnek két táblája az én két kezemben vala.

And I turned and went down from the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire to heaven; and the two tables of the testimonies [were] in my two hands.

16 És mikor látám, hogy ímé vétkeztetek vala az Úr ellen, a ti Istenetek ellen; öntött borjút csináltatok vala magatoknak; hamar letértetek vala az útról, a melyet az Úr parancsolt vala néktek:

And when I saw that you had sinned against the Lord your God, and had made to yourselves a molten image, and had gone astray out of the way, which the Lord commanded you to keep;

17 Akkor megragadám a két táblát, és elhajítám a két kezemből, és összetörém azokat a ti szemeitek láttára.

then I took hold of the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before you.

18 És leborulék az Úr előtt, mint annakelőtte, negyven nap és negyven éjjel, kenyeret nem ettem és vizet sem ittam; minden ti bűnötökért, a melyeket elkövettetek vala, azt cselekedvén, a mi gonosz az Úr előtt, hogy ingereljétek őt.

And I made my petition before the Lord as also at the first forty days and forty nights: I ate no bread and drank no water, on account of all your sins which you sinned in doing evil before the Lord God to provoke him.

19 Mert félek vala a haragtól és búsulástól, a melylyel ti reátok úgy megharagudt vala az Úr, hogy el akart vala pusztítani titeket. És meghallgata az Úr engem akkor is.

And I was greatly terrified because of the wrath and anger, because the Lord was provoked with you utterly to destroy you; yet the Lord listened to me at this time also.

20 Áronra is igen megharagudt vala az Úr, és el akará őt is pusztítani; de ugyanakkor imádkozám Áronért is.

And he was angry with Aaron to destroy him utterly, and I prayed for Aaron also at that time.

21 A ti bűnötöket pedig, a borjút, a melyet készítettetek, megragadám, és megégetém azt tűzzel; és összetörém azt, jól megőrölvén, mígnem porrá morzsolódék, azután bevetém annak porát a patakba, a mely a hegyről foly vala alá.

And your sin which you had made, [even] the calf, I took, and burnt it with fire, and pounded it and ground it down till it became fine; and it became like dust, and I cast the dust into the brook that descended from the mountain.

22 És Thaberában, Massában, és Kibrot-Taavában is haragra indítátok az Urat.

Also in the burning, and in the temptation, and at the graves of lust, you provoked the Lord.

23 És mikor az Úr elküldött vala titeket Kádes-Barneából, mondván: Menjetek fel, és bírjátok örökségül a földet, a melyet néktek adtam: akkor is tusakodtatok vala az Úrnak, a ti Isteneteknek beszéde ellen, nem hittetek néki, és nem hallgattatok az ő szavára.

And when the Lord sent you forth from Cades Barne, saying, Go up and inherit the land which I give to you, then you disobeyed the word of the Lord your God, and believed him not, and listened not to his voice.

24 Tusakodók voltatok az Úr ellen, a mióta ismerlek titeket.

You were disobedient in the things relating to the Lord from the day in which he became known to you.

25 És leborulék az Úr előtt azon a negyven napon és negyven éjjel, a melyeken leborultam vala; mert azt mondotta vala az Úr, hogy elveszt titeket.

And I prayed before the Lord forty days and forty nights, the number that I prayed [before], for the Lord said that he would utterly destroy you.

26 Akkor imádkozám az Úrhoz, és mondék: Uram, Isten! ne rontsd meg a te népedet, és a te örökségedet, a kit a te nagyságoddal szabadítottál meg, a kit erős kézzel hoztál ki Égyiptomból.

And I prayed to God, and said, O Lord, King of gods, destroy not your people and your inheritance, whom you did redeem, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with your great power, and with your strong hand, and with your high arm.

27 Emlékezzél meg a te szolgáidról: Ábrahámról, Izsákról és Jákóbról; ne nézzed e népnek keménységét, istentelenségét és bűnét!

Remember Abraam, and Isaac, and Jacob your servants, to whom you sware by yourself: look not upon the hardness of heart of this people, and their impieties, and their sins.

28 Hogy ne mondja a föld népe, a honnét kihoztál minket: mivelhogy az Úr nem vihette be őket a földre, a melyet igért volt nékik, és mivelhogy gyűlölte őket, azért hozta ki őket, hogy megölje őket a pusztában.

Lest the inhabitants of the land whence you brought us out speak, saying, Because the Lord could not bring them into the land of which he spoke to them, and because he hated them, has he brought them forth to kill them in the wilderness.

29 Pedig ők a te néped és a te örökséged, a melyet kihoztál a te nagy erőddel, és a te kinyujtott karoddal!

And these [are] your people and your portion, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with your great strength, and with your mighty hand, and with your high arm.
