1 Tesszalonika 1

1 Pál, Silvánus és Timótheus a Thessalonikabeliek gyülekezetének, a mely van az Atya Istenben és az Úr Jézus Krisztusban: kegyelem néktek és békesség Istentől, a mi Atyánktól, és az Úr Jézus Krisztustól.

Paul and Sylvanus and Timothy: to the church of the Thessalonians, in God the Father, and in the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Hálát adunk az Istennek mindenkor mindnyájatokért, emlékezvén rólatok a mi imádságainkban;

Grace be to you and peace. We give thanks to God always for you all; making a remembrance of you in our prayers without ceasing,

3 Szüntelenül emlegetve a ti hitetek munkáját, és a ti szeretetetek fáradozását, és a mi Urunk Jézus Krisztus felől való reménységeteknek állhatatosságát, az Isten előtt, a mi Atyánk előtt:

Being mindful of the work of your faith, and labour, and charity, and of the enduring of the hope of our Lord Jesus Christ before God and our Father:

4 Tudván, Istentől szeretett atyámfiai, hogy ti ki vagytok választva;

Knowing, brethren beloved of God, your election:

5 Hogy a mi evangyéliomunk ti nálatok nem áll csak szóban, hanem isteni erőkben is, Szent Lélekben is, sok bizodalomban is; a miképen tudjátok, hogy milyenek voltunk közöttetek ti érettetek.

For our gospel hath not been unto you in word only, but in power also, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much fulness, as you know what manner of men we have been among you for your sakes.

6 És ti a mi követőinkké lettetek és az Úréi, befogadván az ígét sokféle szorongattatás között, Szent Lélek örömével;

And you became followers of us, and of the Lord; receiving the word in much tribulation, with joy of the Holy Ghost:

7 Úgy hogy példaképekké lettetek Maczedóniában és Akhájában minden hívőre nézve.

So that you were made a pattern to all that believe in Macedonia and in Achaia.

8 Mert nemcsak Maczedóniában és Akhájában zendült ki tőletek az Úr beszéde, hanem minden helyen is híre terjedt a ti Istenben vetett hiteteknek, annyira, hogy szükségtelen arról valamit szólnunk.

For from you was spread abroad the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia, and in Achaia, but also in every place, your faith which is towards God, is gone forth, so that we need not to speak any thing.

9 Mert azok magok hirdetik felőlünk, milyen volt a mi hozzátok való menetelünk, és miként tértetek meg az Istenhez a bálványoktól, hogy az élő és igaz Istennek szolgáljatok,

For they themselves relate of us, what manner of entering in we had unto you; and how you turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God.

10 És várjátok az Ő Fiát az égből, a kit feltámasztott a halálból, a Jézust, a ki megszabadít minket amaz eljövendő haragtól.

And to wait for his Son from heaven (whom he raised up from the dead, ) Jesus, who hath delivered us from the wrath to come.
