1 Mikor Izraél kivonult Egyiptomból, Jákób háza érthetetlen nyelvű nép közül:

When Israel went forth out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;

2 lett Jehúda szentélyévé, Izraél az ő uradalmává.

Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion.

3 A tenger látta és megfutamodott, a Jordán hátra kanyarult;

The sea saw it, and fled; Jordan was driven back.

4 a hegyek szökdeltek mint kosok, a halmok mint fiatal juhok.

The mountains skipped like rams, the little hills like young sheep.

5 Mi lelt, oh tenger, hogy megfutamodol, oh Jordán, hogy hátra kanyarúlsz,

What aileth thee, O thou sea, that thou fleest? thou Jordan, that thou turnest back?

6 hegyek ti, hogy szökdeltek mint kosok, halmok, mint fiatal juhok?

Ye mountains, that ye skip like rams; ye little hills, like young sheep?

7 Az Úr elől reszkess, oh föld, Jákób Istene elől,

Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;

8 ő ki a sziklát vizes tóvá változtat-ja, a kovát víznek forrásává.

Which turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
