Példabeszédek 2
1 Fiam, ha elfogadod mondásaimat és parancsaimat magadnál rejted,
My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
2 figyeltetve füledet a bölcsségre, szívedet az értelemre hajtod;
So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3 bizony, ha az értelmességet hívod, az értelemért hallatod szavadat;
Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
4 ha keresed azt, mint az ezüstöt, s mint a kincseket kutatod:
If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5 akkor megérted az Isten félelmét, s Isten megismerését találod.
Then shalt thou understand the fear of Yhwh, and find the knowledge of God.
6 Mert az Örökkévaló ad bölcsességet, szájából tudást és értelmet;
For Yhwh giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
7 üdvöt tartogat az egyeneseknek, pajzsa ő a gáncstalanul járóknak,
He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
8 megóva a jognak ösvényeit és őrizve jámborainak útját.
He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
9 Akkor értesz igazságot és jogot és egyenességet – a jónak minden nyomdokát.
Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
10 Mert bölcsesség jut szívedbe, és tudás kedves lesz a lelkednek.
When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
11 Meggondolás fog őrködni feletted, értelem meg fog óvni tégedet.
Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
12 Hogy megmentsen téged a rossznak útjától, embertől, ki ferdeségeket beszél,
To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh perverse things;
13 a kik elhagyják az egyenesség ösvényeit, hogy járjanak sötétség útjain;
Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
14 kik örülnek azon, hogy rosszat tesznek, vígadnak a rossznak ferdeségén;
Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the perverseness of the wicked;
15 kik ösvényeiken fonákok s álnokok a nyomdokaiban.
Whose ways are crooked, and they perverted in their paths:
16 Hogy megmentsen téged idegen asszonytól, idegen nőtől, ki simává tette mondásait;
To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
17 ki elhagyta ifjúkori társát és Istene szövetségét elfelejtette.
Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
18 Mert halálra hanyatlik az ő házával és az árnyakhoz nyomdokai.
For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
19 Mind, a kik bemennek hozzá, nem térnek vissza s nem érik el az élet ösvényeit.
None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.
20 Azért, hogy járj a jóknak útján s megőrizzed az igazak ösvényeit.
That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
21 Mert az egyenesek fogják lakni az országot és a gáncstalanok megmaradnak benne.
For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
22 De a gonoszok ki fognak irtatni az országból és a hűtlenkedőket kiszakítják belőle.
But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
