1 Gyöngéd felelet elfordítja az indulatot, de bántó szó haragot kelt.
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
2 A bölcsek nyelve jó tudást ad és a balgák szája oktalanságot bugyogtat.
The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
3 Minden helyen vannak az Örökkévaló szemei, szemlélve a rosszakat és jókat.
The eyes of YHWH are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
4 A nyelv szelídsége életnek fája, de ferdeség benne romlás a lélekben.
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
5 Az oktalan megveti atyjának oktatását, de a ki a feddést megőrzi, okossá lesz.
A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
6 Az igaznak házában nagy készlet van, de a gonosznak jövedelmében zavarodás.
In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
7 A bölcsek ajkai szórják a tudást, de a balgák szíve helytelen.
The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
8 A gonoszok áldozata utálata az Örökkévalónak, de az egyenesek imádsága kedvére van.
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to YHWH: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9 Az Örökkévaló utálata a gonosznak útja, de az igazságra törekvőt szereti.
The way of the wicked is an abomination unto YHWH: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
10 Súlyos fenyítés jut annak, ki az utat elhagyja, a ki a feddést gyűlöli, meghal.
Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
Hell and destruction are before YHWH: how much more then the hearts of the children of men? (Sheol h7585)
12 Nem szereti a csúfoló, hogy feddik őt: bölcsekhez el nem jár.
A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
13 Örvendő szív derültté teszi az arczot, de a szív fájdalmában levert a lélek.
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
14 Értelmes szív tudást keres, de a balgák szája oktalanságot követ.
The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
15 A szegénynek napjai mind szomorúak, de a vidám szívű – állandó lakoma.
All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
16 Jobb kevés istenfélelemmel, mint sok kincs és háborúság vele.
Better is little with the fear of YHWH than great treasure and trouble therewith.
17 Jobb egy étel zöldség, a hol szeretet van, mint hizlalt ökör és gyűlölet mellette.
Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
18 Az indulatos ember viszályt gerjeszt, de a hosszantűrő lecsendesíti a pörlekedést.
A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
19 A restnek útja akár a tövis-sövény, de az egyenesek pályája fel van töltve.
The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
20 Bölcs fiú megörvendezteti atyját, s ember, a ki balga, megveti anyját.
A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
21 Az oktalanság öröm az esztelennek, de az értelem embere egyenesen jár.
Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
22 Meghiúsulnak a gondolatok tanácskozás híján, de ha sok a tanácsadó, megállanak.
Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellers they are established.
23 Öröm jut az embernek szája feleletében, és szó a maga idején – mi jó!
A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

25 A gőgösek házát kiszakítja az Örökkévaló, de fönnállni engedi az özvegynek határát.
YHWH will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
26 Az Örökkévaló utálata rossz gondolatok, de tiszták a kedves beszédek.
The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to YHWH: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
27 Megzavarja házát a nyerészkedést űző, de a ki ajándékokat gyűlöl, élni fog.
He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
28 Az igaznak szíve gondolkozik azon, mit feleljen, de a gonoszok szája bugyogtatja a rosszaságokat.
The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
29 Távol van az Örökkévaló a gonoszoktól, de az igazak imádságát meghallja.
YHWH is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
30 A szemek világossága megörvendezteti a szívet, jó hír zsírossá teszi a csontot.
The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.
31 Fül, mely hallgat az élet feddésére, bölcsek között fog időzni.
The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
32 A ki elveti az oktatást, megveti a lelkét, de a ki feddésre hallgat, észt szerez.
He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
33 Istenfélelem oktatás a bölcsességre, és a tisztelet előtt jár az alázatosság.
The fear of YHWH is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
