Jób 15
1 Felelt a Témánbeli Elífáz s mondta:
Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
2 Vajon bölcs felel-e szeles tudással s megtölti-e keleti széllel belsejét –
Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
3 bizonyítgatva mitsem érő beszéddel és szavakkal, melyekkel nem használ.
Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches with which he can do no good?
4 Te az Isten félelmét is megbontod, csökkented az imaszót Isten előtt.
Yes, you cast off fear, and restrain prayer before God.
5 Mert bűnöd tanítja szájadat s a ravaszok nyelvét választod.
For your mouth utters your iniquity, and you choose the tongue of the crafty.
6 Szájad ítél el téged s nem én, s ajkaid vallanak ellened.
Your own mouth condemns you, and not I: yes, your own lips testify against you.
7 Elsőnek születtél-e az emberek közt a a halmoknál előbb létesültél?
Are you the first man that was born? or were you made before the hills?
8 Isten tanácsában hallottál-e valamit és csentél magadnak bölcsességet?
Have you heard the secret of God? and do you restrain wisdom to yourself?
9 Mit tudsz te, mit mi nem tudunk, mit értesz, a mi nem volna mi nálunk?
What know you, that we know not? what understand you, which is not in us?
10 Vén is, aggastyán is van közöttünk, napokra apádnál korosabb.
With us are both the gray headed and very aged men, much elder than your father.
11 Kevés-e neked Isten vigasztalása s az ige, mely csínján bánt veled?
Are the consolations of God small with you? is there any secret thing with you?
12 Mit ragad el téged szíved, és mit integetnek szemeid,
Why does your heart carry you away? and what do your eyes wink at,
13 hogy Isten ellen fordítod indulatodat és szájadból kibocsátasz szavakat?
That you turn your spirit against God, and let such words go out of your mouth?
14 Mi a halandó, hogy tiszta legyen, s hogy igaz legyen asszony szülöttje?
What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
15 Lám, szentjeiben nem hisz, az egek sem tiszták szemeiben;
Behold, he puts no trust in his saints; yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
16 hát még az utálatos és megromlott, az ember, ki mint vizet issza a jogtalanságot.
How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinks iniquity like water?
17 Hadd oktatlak, hallgass reám, s a mit láttam, hadd beszélem el;
I will show you, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;
18 a mit hirdetnek bölcsek, és nem titkolták el őseik részéről –
Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:
19 nekik egyedül adatott az ország, s idegen nem járt közöttük:
To whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
20 A gonosznak minden napjaiban kínlódik ő, s az évek száma alatt, melyek fentartvák az erőszakosnak.
The wicked man travails with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
21 Rettegések hangja a fülében: békében jön reá pusztító.
A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come on him.
22 Nem hiszi, hogy visszatér a sötétségből, ki van szemelve a kard számára.
He believes not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.
23 Bolyong ő kenyér után, hol van; tudja, hogy készen áll oldalán a sötétség napja.
He wanders abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24 Ijesztik őt szükség és szorongás, megragadja őt mint csatára kész király.
Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
25 Mert Isten ellen nyújtotta ki kezét a Mindenható ellen hősködik;
For he stretches out his hand against God, and strengthens himself against the Almighty.
26 nyakkal szalad ellene, pajzsainak vastag dudoraival.
He runs on him, even on his neck, on the thick bosses of his bucklers:
27 Mert arczát befödte zsírjával s hájat szerzett ágyékára.
Because he covers his face with his fatness, and makes bulges of fat on his flanks.
28 Letelepült megsemmisített városokban, házakban, melyeket nem laknak, melyek rendelve vannak kőhalmoknak.
And he dwells in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabits, which are ready to become heaps.
29 Nem gazdagszik meg, nem áll fönn a vagyona, nem hajlik a földre szerzeménye;
He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof on the earth.
30 nem térhet ki a sötétség elől, csemetéjét láng szárítja el s eltűnik – az ő szája leheletétől.
He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
31 Ne higyjen a semmiségben, a ki megtévedett, mert semmiség lesz, a mit cserébe kap.
Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompense.
32 Mielőtt itt volna a napja, beteljesedik, s pálmaága nem zöldellő.
It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.
33 Mint szőlőtő elvetéli egresét, s mint olajfa hullatja el virágát.
He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
34 Mert az istentelennek községe meddő, és tűz emészti a megvesztegetés sátrait:
For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
35 bajt fogannak és jogtalanságot szülnek, és belsejük csalárdságot készít.
They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepares deceit.
