Jeremiás 40
1 Az ige, mely Jirmejáhúhoz lett az Örökkévalótól, miután őt elbocsátotta Nebúzaradán, a testőrök feje, Rámából, amikor vette őt, és ő bilincsre volt verve, Jeruzsálem és Jehúda számkivetettsége között, mely számkivetésbe vitetett Bábelbe.
The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah, who were carried away captive to Babylon.
2 Vette ugyanis a testőrök feje Jirmejáhút és szólt hozzá: Az Örökkévaló, a te Istened kimondta ezt a veszedelmet e hely felől;
The captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him, "The LORD your God pronounced this evil on this place;
3 el is hozta és cselekedett az Örökkévaló, miként megmondotta, mert vétkeztetek az Örökkévaló ellen és nem hallgattatok szavára; tehát történt veletek ez a dolog.
and the LORD has brought it, and done according as he spoke: because you have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing has come on you.
4 És most íme kioldoztalak ma a kezeden levő bilincsekből, ha jónak tetszik szemeidben, hogy eljöjj velem Bábelbe, jövel, és majd rád fordítom szememet, de ha rossznak tetszik szemeidben, hogy eljöjj velem Bábelbe, hadd abban; lásd, az egész ország előtted van, ahová jónak és helyesnek tetszik szemeidben, hogy elmenj, oda menj -
Now, look, I release you this day from the chains which are on your hand. If it seems good to you to come with me into Babylon, come, and I will take care of you; but if it seems bad to you to come with me into Babylon, do not: look, all the land is before you; where it seems good and right to you to go, there go."

Now while he had not yet gone back, "Go back then," he said, "to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go wherever it seems right to you to go." So the captain of the guard gave him food and a present, and let him go.
6 És odament Jirmejáhú Gedáljához, Achíkám fiához Miczpába; és maradt vele e nép között, mely az országban megmaradt.
Then went Jeremiah to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah, and lived with him among the people who were left in the land.
7 És hallották mind a hadsereg tisztjei, akik a mezőn voltak, ők meg embereik, hogy Bábel királya rendelte Gedaljáhút, Achíhám fiát az ország fölé és hogy rábízott férfiakat, asszonyokat és gyermekeket és pedig az ország szegényei közül, azok közül, kik nem vitettek számkivetésbe Bábelbe.
Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, and women, and children, and of the poorest of the land, of those who were not carried away captive to Babylon;
8 Akkor odamentek Gedaljához Miczpába: Jismaél, Netánjáhú fia, Jóchánán és Jónátán, Káréach fiai, Szerája, Tanchúmet fia, a Netófabeli Éfaj fiai és Jezanjáhú, a Máakhabeli fia, ők és embereik.
then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men.
9 És megesküdött Gedaljáhú, Achíkám, Sáfán fiának fia nekik és embereiknek, mondván: Ne féljetek szolgálni a kaldeusoknak; maradjatok az országban és szolgáljatok Bábel királyának és jó dolgotok lesz.
Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore to them and to their men, saying, "Do not be afraid to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.
10 Én pedig, íme én Miczpában maradok, hogy álljak a kaldeusok előtt, akik hozzánk jönnek. Ti pedig gyűjtsetek be bort és gyümölcsöt és olajat és tegyétek edényeitekbe és lakjatok városaitokban, amelyeket elfoglaltatok.
As for me, look, I will dwell at Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who shall come to us: but you, gather wine and summer fruits and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken."
11 De mindazon Jehúdabeliek is, akik Móábban, Ammón fiai között és Edómban, és akik mind az országokban voltak, hallották, hogy Bábel királya maradékot adott Jehúdának és hogy föléjük rendelte Gedaljáhút, Achíkám, Sáfán fiának, a fiát;
Likewise when all the Jews who were in Moab, and among the people of Ammon, and in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan;
12 visszatértek tehát mind a Jehúdabeliek mindazon helyekből, ahová eltaszíttattak és eljöttek Jehúda országába Gedaljáhúhoz Miczpába és begyűjtöttek bort és gyümölcsöt nagyon sokat.
then all the Jews returned out of all places where they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.
13 Jóchánán pedig, Káréach fia és mind a hadsereg tisztjei, kik a mezőn voltak, eljöttek Gedaljáhúhoz Miczpába,
Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,
14 és szóltak hozzá: vajon tudod-e, hogy Báelísz, Ammón fiainak királya, elküldötte Jismaélt, Netanja fiát, hogy agyonüssön téged? De nem hitt nekik Gedaljáhú, Achíkám fia.
and said to him, "Do you know that Baalis the king of the people of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life?" But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam did not believe them.
15 Jóchanán pedig, Kárésch fia, titokban szólt Gedaljáhúhoz Miczpában, mondván: Hadd menjek csak, hogy megöljem Jismaélt; Netanja fiát és senki meg ne tudja; miért üssön agyon téged, hogy elszóródjanak mind a hozzád egybegyűlt Jehúdabeliek és elvesszen Jehúda maradéka?
Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, "Please let me go, and I will kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: why should he take your life, that all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of Judah perish?"
16 De Gedaljáhú, Achíkám fia azt mondta Jóchánánnak, Káréach fiának: Ne tedd ezt a dolgot, mert hazugságot beszélsz Jismaél felől.
But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, "You shall not do this thing; for you speak falsely of Ishmael."
