1 Sámuel 13

1 Egyéves volt Sául uralmában – két évig uralkodott Izrael fölött –

3 És megverte Jónátán a filiszteusok őrsét, mely Gébában volt, és meghallották a filiszteusok; Sául pedig megfúvatta a harsonát az egész országban, mondván: Hadd hallják a héberek!

4 Egész Izrael pedig hallotta, hogy mondták: megverte Sául a filiszteusok őrsét, meg rossz hírbe is keveredett Izrael a filiszteusoknál; ekkor összegyűlt a nép Sául után Gilgálba.

11 És mondta Sámuel: Mit cselekedtél? Mondta Sául: Mivel láttam, hogy elszéledt tőlem a nép, te meg nem jöttél a meghatározott napokon belül, a filiszteusok pedig gyülekeznek Mikhmásba;

13 És szólt Sámuel Sáulhoz: Balgának bizonyultál! Nem őrizted meg az Örökkévalónak, Istenednek parancsolatát, melyet neked parancsolt. Bizony, most megszilárdította volna az Örökkévaló királyságodat Izrael fölött mindörökre.

14 Most pedig királyságod nem fog megállni; keresett valakit az Örökkévaló magának szíve szerint és fejedelemnek rendelte őt az Örökkévaló népe fölé, mert nem őrizted meg azt, amit neked parancsolt az Örökkévaló.

15 Fölkelt Sámuel és fölment Gilgálból a Benjáminbeli Gibeába. Megszámlálta. Sául a nála meglevő népet: mintegy hatszáz embert.
