नीतिवचन 28
1 १ दुष्ट लोग जब कोई पीछा नहीं करता तब भी भागते हैं, परन्तु धर्मी लोग जवान सिंहों के समान निडर रहते हैं।
The lawless, fleeth when no man pursueth, but, the righteous, like a lion, are confident.
2 २ देश में पाप होने के कारण उसके हाकिम बदलते जाते हैं; परन्तु समझदार और ज्ञानी मनुष्य के द्वारा सुप्रबन्ध बहुत दिन के लिये बना रहेगा।
For the transgressions of a land, many are the rulers thereof, but, under an intelligent and discerning man, stability is prolonged.
3 ३ जो निर्धन पुरुष कंगालों पर अंधेर करता है, वह ऐसी भारी वर्षा के समान है जो कुछ भोजनवस्तु नहीं छोड़ती।
A poor man, who oppresseth the helpless, [is like] a rain beating down, leaving no food.
4 ४ जो लोग व्यवस्था को छोड़ देते हैं, वे दुष्ट की प्रशंसा करते हैं, परन्तु व्यवस्था पर चलनेवाले उनका विरोध करते हैं।
They who forsake instruction, praise one who is lawless, while, they who keep instruction, are at strife with them.
Wicked men, consider not justice, but, they who seek Yahweh, consider everything.
Better a poor man walking in his integrity, than one who is crooked—turning two ways, though, he, be rich.
7 ७ जो व्यवस्था का पालन करता वह समझदार सुपूत होता है, परन्तु उड़ाऊ का संगी अपने पिता का मुँह काला करता है।
He that keepeth instruction, is a son with discernment, but, a companion of squanderers, bringeth shame to his father.
He that increaseth his substance by interest and profit, for one ready to favour the poor, doth gather it.
He that turneth away his ear from hearing instruction, even his prayer, is an abomination.
10 १० जो सीधे लोगों को भटकाकर कुमार्ग में ले जाता है वह अपने खोदे हुए गड्ढे में आप ही गिरता है; परन्तु खरे लोग कल्याण के भागी होते हैं।
He that misguideth the upright into a hurtful way! into his own pit, he himself, shall fall, but, men of integrity, shall inherit good.
Wise in his own eyes, is the man that is rich, but, a poor man of discernment, searcheth him out.
12 १२ जब धर्मी लोग जयवन्त होते हैं, तब बड़ी शोभा होती है; परन्तु जब दुष्ट लोग प्रबल होते हैं, तब मनुष्य अपने आपको छिपाता है।
In the exulting of the righteous, there is great glorying, but, when the lawless arise, a man must be sought for.
13 १३ जो अपने अपराध छिपा रखता है, उसका कार्य सफल नहीं होता, परन्तु जो उनको मान लेता और छोड़ भी देता है, उस पर दया की जाएगी।
He that covereth his transgressions, shall not prosper, but, he that confesseth and forsaketh, shall find compassion.
14 १४ जो मनुष्य निरन्तर प्रभु का भय मानता रहता है वह धन्य है; परन्तु जो अपना मन कठोर कर लेता है वह विपत्ति में पड़ता है।
How happy the man who is ever circumspect, whereas, he that hardeneth his heart, shall fall into calamity.
A growling lion, and a ranging bear, is a lawless ruler, over a poor people.
16 १६ वह शासक जिसमें समझ की कमी हो, वह बहुत अंधेर करता है; और जो लालच का बैरी होता है वह दीर्घायु होता है।
A leader, may lack intelligence, yet abound in oppressions, The hater of greed, shall lengthen out days.
A man oppressed with a person’s blood, unto a pit, shall flee, let them not hold him back.
He that walketh with integrity, shall be saved, but, he that is crooked, turning two ways, shall fall in one.
19 १९ जो अपनी भूमि को जोता-बोया करता है, उसका तो पेट भरता है, परन्तु जो निकम्मे लोगों की संगति करता है वह कंगालपन से घिरा रहता है।
He that tilleth his ground, shall have plenty of bread, but, he that pursueth empty-heads, shall have plenty of poverty.
20 २० सच्चे मनुष्य पर बहुत आशीर्वाद होते रहते हैं, परन्तु जो धनी होने में उतावली करता है, वह निर्दोष नहीं ठहरता।
A man of fidelity, aboundeth in blessings, but, one hasting to be rich, shall not be held innocent.
To take note of faces [in judgment], is not good, and, for a bit of bread, a man will transgress.
A man, hasting to be rich, hath an evil eye, and knoweth not when want may overtake him.
He that reproveth a man, shall, afterwards, find more, favour, than he that useth a flattering tongue.
He that robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression, companion, is he to one who wasteth.
The ambitious in soul, stirreth up strife, but, he that trusteth in Yahweh, shall be enriched.
He that trusteth his own heart, the same, is a dullard, but, he that walketh wisely, the same, shall be delivered.
27 २७ जो निर्धन को दान देता है उसे घटी नहीं होती, परन्तु जो उससे दृष्टि फेर लेता है वह श्राप पर श्राप पाता है।
One who giveth to the poor, shall have no want, but, he that hideth his eyes, shall receive many a curse.
28 २८ जब दुष्ट लोग प्रबल होते हैं तब तो मनुष्य ढूँढ़े नहीं मिलते, परन्तु जब वे नाश हो जाते हैं, तब धर्मी उन्नति करते हैं।
When lawless men rise, a common man will hide himself, but, when they perish, righteous men multiply.
