नीतिवचन 2

1 १ हे मेरे पुत्र, यदि तू मेरे वचन ग्रहण करे, और मेरी आज्ञाओं को अपने हृदय में रख छोड़े,

[My] son, if you will receive the utterance of my commandment, and hide it with you;

2 २ और बुद्धि की बात ध्यान से सुने, और समझ की बात मन लगाकर सोचे;

your ear shall listen to wisdom; you shall also apply your heart to understanding, and shall apply it to the instruction of your son.

3 ३ यदि तू प्रवीणता और समझ के लिये अति यत्न से पुकारे,

For it you shall call to wisdom, and utter your voice for understanding;

4 ४ और उसको चाँदी के समान ढूँढ़े, और गुप्त धन के समान उसकी खोज में लगा रहे;

and if you shall seek it as silver, and search diligently for it as for treasures;

5 ५ तो तू यहोवा के भय को समझेगा, और परमेश्वर का ज्ञान तुझे प्राप्त होगा।

then shall you understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

6 ६ क्योंकि बुद्धि यहोवा ही देता है; ज्ञान और समझ की बातें उसी के मुँह से निकलती हैं।

For the Lord gives wisdom; and from his presence [come] knowledge and understanding,

7 ७ वह सीधे लोगों के लिये खरी बुद्धि रख छोड़ता है; जो खराई से चलते हैं, उनके लिये वह ढाल ठहरता है।

and he treasures up salvation for them that walk uprightly: he will protect their way;

8 ८ वह न्याय के पथों की देख-भाल करता, और अपने भक्तों के मार्ग की रक्षा करता है।

that he may guard the righteous ways: and he will preserve the way of them that fear him.

9 ९ तब तू धर्म और न्याय और सिधाई को, अर्थात् सब भली-भली चाल को समझ सकेगा;

Then shall you understand righteousness, and judgment; and shall direct all your course aright.

10 १० क्योंकि बुद्धि तो तेरे हृदय में प्रवेश करेगी, और ज्ञान तेरे प्राण को सुख देनेवाला होगा;

For if wisdom shall come into your understanding, and discernment shall seem pleasing to your soul,

11 ११ विवेक तुझे सुरक्षित रखेगा; और समझ तेरी रक्षक होगी;

good counsel shall guard you, and holy understanding shall keep you;

12 १२ ताकि वे तुझे बुराई के मार्ग से, और उलट-फेर की बातों के कहनेवालों से बचाएंगे,

to deliver you from the evil way, and from the man that speaks nothing faithfully.

13 १३ जो सिधाई के मार्ग को छोड़ देते हैं, ताकि अंधेरे मार्ग में चलें;

Alas [for those] who forsake right paths, to walk in ways of darkness;

14 १४ जो बुराई करने से आनन्दित होते हैं, और दुष्ट जन की उलट-फेर की बातों में मगन रहते हैं;

who rejoice in evils, and delight in wicked perverseness;

15 १५ जिनके चाल चलन टेढ़े-मेढ़े और जिनके मार्ग में कुटिलता हैं।

whose paths are crooked, and their courses winding;

16 १६ बुद्धि और विवेक तुझे पराई स्त्री से बचाएँगे, जो चिकनी चुपड़ी बातें बोलती है,

to remove you far from the straight way, and to estrange you from a righteous purpose. [My] son, let not evil counsel overtake you,

17 १७ और अपनी जवानी के साथी को छोड़ देती, और जो अपने परमेश्वर की वाचा को भूल जाती है।

[of her] who has forsaken the instruction of her youth, and forgotten the covenant of God.

18 १८ उसका घर मृत्यु की ढलान पर है, और उसकी डगरें मरे हुओं के बीच पहुँचाती हैं;

For she has fixed her house near death, and [guided] her wheels near Hades with the giants.

19 १९ जो उसके पास जाते हैं, उनमें से कोई भी लौटकर नहीं आता; और न वे जीवन का मार्ग पाते हैं।

None that go by her shall return, neither shall they take hold of right paths, for they are not apprehended of the years of life.

20 २० इसलिए तू भले मनुष्यों के मार्ग में चल, और धर्मियों के पथ को पकड़े रह।

For had they gone in good paths, they would have found the paths of righteousness easy.

21 २१ क्योंकि धर्मी लोग देश में बसे रहेंगे, और खरे लोग ही उसमें बने रहेंगे।

For the upright shall dwell in the earth, and the holy shall be left behind in it.

22 २२ दुष्ट लोग देश में से नाश होंगे, और विश्वासघाती उसमें से उखाड़े जाएँगे।

The paths of the ungodly shall perish out of the earth, and transgressors shall be driven away from it.
